he was young. nay, she was still young, but still... he was a child, like how she saw her brothers sometimes. when she had been his age, she had been fighting with her mother about being a ‘proper princess’, not making proclamations that affected alliances. “y’trying t’do big things, lad. just take care tha’ ye don’t overwork y’self with it.”

"sorry lass, i got distracted a bit.” having to leave her kingdom (queendom) to come to auradon wasn’t what merida had wanted to do, but that wasn’t this girl’s fault. and a threat here could threaten her people, right when she thought she may have united the clans for... well, at least a couple years. “what was that y’were sayin’?”

other kingdoms have found the peace of the past several years as a time to relax, to rest up and pretend that everything is going to be simple now. but dunbroch, whose enemies have always been nature and infighting, has never had that chance. this is proven in the woman who sits upon their throne, a quiver of arrows at her side and a sword in her hand.

queen merida has never allowed herself to rest, even as she won the acceptance of the clans, even as she fought to protect her people from natural enemies. even as she refused to give up her father’s crown, even when she did finally choose to marry. she is their first line of defense, and she takes great pride in that role.
