Question 25 and 7 for Aloj please! <3
7. What's their favourite villain moment so far?
Aloj is an anarchist so the car snatch interrogation probably. Went the best and also ne got to both intimidate but also communicate/get information out there.
25. What's the dumbest way your Sidestep has almost gotten caught?
So fun fact about Aloj's (first and, so far, only) run. Ne almost spectacularly stays out of trouble for most of it. To the point where I missed out on so many lore drops and cool scenes. Nir mindspace is very much "not my circus not my monkeys, why would I crash the auction when I can just steal more money and buy Mortum the gun???" Ne is pretty pragmatic when they can emotionally regulate.
HOWEVER. Nir villain debut had me sweating. Which is also objectively the funniest answer. Got nir ass beat and chased into the sewer by Argent (goodbye cape </3). Life flashes before my eyes every time ne enters combat as Animosium ever since.
characters raised to be tools
Weapons. Trained, tested, forged in steel and fire. Failure is an inevitability that ends in death. Pain should not be felt--it should be recognized, familiar, and inconsequential
Martyrs. In the form of servants and princes, of leaders and underdogs. If blood is necessary, the martyr will lift their hands and offer it all
Shields. Like tempering a sword, but only to bear and not to lash out. Wounds are medals--not symbols of pride, but symbols of worth. A pretty shield is useless; scars mean a job well done
Experiments. Raised on the cold comfort of a lab table. Restraints are only necessary when they're not in their right mind. Is it honorable, to be twisted beyond recognition? Or is it just a necessary evil?
Monsters. Cruelty, caution, and regarding one as a creature beyond reasonable thought is tempering in its own right. But if you keep a leash at the right length, perhaps the massecre won't reach you. One can hope.
Idols. Pretty face, pretty name, pretty hands around their shoulders and throat. There to seduce, manipulate, force any feeling to come to the surface and twist it to their favor. Any genuinity stays locked behind the guilded cage that surrounds their pretty little heart
Trophies. Status and wealth and the traditions that keep someone at their heels, on their knees, to display and serve and decorate one's ballroom.
Sacrifices. Drenched in honorable clothes, prepared and adored and cleansed. The gift of hope at the cost of one's life. Is it taken with no fight? How can you escape the ropes you were born in?
TREX!!!! (Truck sex)
i don't think i ever posted this fallen hero comic i did for class
Good day to you ^^ I would like to request, for your Sidestep(s)
28. If they had to live with one of the Rangers as a roommate, who would drive them insane first?
Have a lovely day ^^
ABSOLUTELY Danny. Ne can't stand his ass to the point where I make Anne feel so bad for him.
Aloj is very much jealous of him for having the sunshine and rainbows outlook he does and it makes nem seethe. (If you're fine why can't I be fine? No one would be fine if they went through what I did, you're so fucking lucky.)
He'd probably attempt to do healthy communication about household stuff like "do you mind if I move your stuff" and ne would be like "OH MY GOD JUST DO IT" (Mad about things ne wouldn't be mad about if anyone else did them)
okay I HAVE to start with 18… put Aloj on the phone
18. What does victory look like to them?
It's definitely very physical tangible things for nem because otherwise you never know! Most likely it's connected to blood and guts, someone dead or at least collapsed in front of nem. Taken out and no longer a threat.
1 and 6 for the Sidestep questions for Amor? If you feel like answering!
HI THANK YOU!! yes of course I love answering theseeee
(prompt list here)
1. How do they feel when they hear “Sidestep”?
when they just overhear people talk about Sidestep as a person unrelated to them, Amor mostly feels… wistful, I think? they’re always surprised that anybody still remembers him at all.. they’re so far removed from this person who they, like most people besides the Rangers, think is long dead that they can still think of him fondly. it feels right, in a way, because the good always die young in this city, don’t they? so maybe he, too, was good. maybe he mattered, just a little bit. they don’t really perceive it as a loss? they never expected to live very long, and this way, his story ends neatly
whenever the name is used to refer to them, though? Amor is starkly reminded that the story did not end when it should have. the primary feeling I think is just dread, it feels… wrong. like he’s doing something wrong? but they’re not, they have and will keep insisting that they’re not that person anymore, almost desperately, but they’re very aware of the fact that the people who knew Sidestep still see him in them despite that? and that can’t be right… sure, they’ve been an impostor in the past, but now that role is almost forced onto them. they never wanted to pretend they still are that person. they never knew they’d have a legacy that would still last to this day and they find themselves quite reluctant to ruin it; it’s the one thing left to remember him by, after all. the person that they used to be. then you can also add a weird sort of betrayal to this mess of emotions, with the Rangers as the traitors for once. Sidestep fought alongside them for years, they got to see his face, got to know him, how could they look at this shell in front of them and say ‘yeah that’s good enough, that’s still the same person’? sure, Herald and Argent never met him, and maybe Steel never cared, but Ortega…? and she has the nerve to still call him her best friend
6. Is their villain persona closer to who they are or who they pretend to be?
HMMM
if you asked them, Amor would absolutely say it reflects their real self, but they are a liar with zero self awareness so we’ll just pretend we didn’t hear that okay… if anything, it reflects who they think they are, or what they think is left: a monster. a thing that was born from someone’s pain and can therefore only bring about pain in turn (<- guy who hasn’t killed anyone yet. btw), the pinnacle of their desperate need to do something right for once and then disappear. so I guess the answer is that Chord is who they pretend to be, but their self-hatred and need to justify their actions convinced them this is who they’ve always been all along
6 and 19 for the sidestep ask game?
6. Is their villain persona closer to who they are or who they pretend to be?
So here's the thing. Both. Aloj's anger response is deeply messed up. Sidestep era Aloj is a beast to tackle and explain, but the name of the game was suppression of anger and violent urges. That suppression is something ne got a lot better at over time and nir mental health also improved to a point where Aloj mostly wouldn't be considered a danger to nemself or others. However, what I like to symbolically refer to as nir "prey drive" sticks around tucked away somewhere deep inside and it itches. Animosium lets Aloj itch at it in a way ne has never been able to. Aloj keeps hitting Herald when he's down to the point where he has to go to pyhisio
All that being said, I don't think it's who Aloj is as a person. Their villain persona just lets nem see red for a minute and not face consequences. In that way, it's also an act.
They pretend to be evil because ne knows that's what it takes to get things done. Classic, cheezy "I tried the hero route" bullshit. Villainy just has a higher intimidation modifier and covert business partners.
19. What is something they picked up from someone else?
Once again avoiding talking about Sidestep Aloj, but ne had it engrained in nem not to take food from people because it could be tampered with. Ne always refused to take food from the Rangers. Aloj is lean and lanky and probably should be eating more and nem refusing food worried them but Themmy is the only one who who ever got nem to eat together. Themmy probably thought ne had an eating disorder or some food related fear and came up with the idea of eating from the same dish/container as a way to show Aloj that if Themmy is eating it it can't be that bad and scary :)
Because of this, Aloj always shares food with people in honestly strange ways. Just brings over a whole pot when at Ortega's apartment and they pick at it from where it sits between them. Ne buys two things of fries and then puts the second to the side to be eaten when whoever they're eating them with and nem have finished the first.
Bonus: Aloj HATES lifting weights. Nir favourite way to work out is running but the only intensive full body work outs ne knows and does are probably ones Chen taught nem.
