I still hate "Forgiveness"

To this day, I am still weirded out by the 'forgive the abuser' step to getting over trauma.

Normalize being angry as something healthy to explore.

As long as it doesn't consume you, scream and rage and kick as much as you need to against the nightmares. Sure they may have their own fucking story, but it doesn't and will never make it right what they did.

They don't deserve forgiveness.

I want them fearing the day I come back swinging, not comforted by some vague notion I'll just get over it and 'forgive them for me, not them'.

I only need to forgive myself.

In vet tech school my favorite class was Breeds & Behavior. I remember learning how showing teeth is not always a sign of aggression!

Dogs also do it to show submission, nervousness or fear, often paired with cowering, licking their lips and squinting their eyes!

My Macha does the submissive grin a lot. Whether its someone she just spent ten minutes barking and lecturing about their presence being in her space, or she's being scolded for doing something she should not. Like I have to tell people constantly she isn't being agressive or going to bite, she's just going to roll over or butt lower at them.

Remember the dog park she'd just run up to someone - or somedog - and just tactical roll into belly up or do the lower head, lower butt, grin face. She's also prone to licking other dogs to appease them.

I guess her being a AmStaff mix makes people more weary of it?

Ooo. I like this.

When I wrote "Roanna", I didn't want to tie the "Courtly Love" to an act like a kiss or love making like in Marie de France's "Lanfal" (that inspired it). So it was the validation of what Roanna desired to be outside of the gender norms.

Is there a kiss?

Yes, but its insignificant when compared to seeing who Roanna really is. It also happens after the acknowledgement and giving her agency to be who she desires versus what the court tells her she must be.

Going back to old writing is either just like:

1. “Who wrote this masterpiece?! It was ME?!”

I am guilty of #2 so much because I am so harsh to my own work. If it wasn't for my current academic path in Creative Writing (BA in English - Creative Writing), I may have never got the confidence to start looking at my work as gems needing polish, not trainwrecks.

Me with The Single Ladies Guide to Summoning Eldritch Cats except instead of a single scene, it's a whole ass story/novelette idea that just hasn't formulated 100%. So, it only has a name drop in another short fiction piece by me: "Campana's Cameras and Curiousities #2: The Help Calling Charm"

All I can say is that it was inspired by the Conservative quote:
