It’s been a long time since I posted anything with the OG ship (I mean, I finished Dragon Queen in 2016.  It’s been a bit), so here we are back with a pair of the World’s Softest Dragons.

I’ve always liked how soft they get around each other, especially Mara.  You’ve got this hardened, bitter, reformed thief who takes no shit from anyone (especially Daedric Princes), and ends up reclaiming the Empire through a combination of a literal army of dragons and sheer force of will… but you put her next to the Nerd™ and she just turns to goo.  It’s fantastic.

(And if you don’t think their relationship isn’t mythologized to an almost ridiculous degree in their universe, I don’t know what to tell you.  What should have been a tragedy turned out to be the story of The Love Not Even Death Could Stop)

Happy 2 Years Since THP Ended

It’s officially been two whole years since I finished The Happiest Place (!!!), so let’s drop some more BTS stuff, shall we?

The original version of the plan, from at least ten years ago, was to be set in WDW (at least partially centered in Epcot and MK), but I decided on it being at Disneyland mostly because there was a better setup for the final battle

The first real image in my head of what THP was going to be, and really set the tone going forward, was the Winnie the Pooh characters all decked out in their makeshift armor prepared for battle.

Up until literally the release of the first chapter, I had plans to swap POVs between the Princesses, but decided that it would complicate the plot too much

The breakup scene in chapter 22 was originally very different from what it ended up being.  I think the shoe breaking is a better fit (pun intended) for the actual story, both thematically and in the emotional impact

Fantasmic! was always (even in the original WDW plan without Cindy as the lead) going to be central to the story

It wasn’t originally going to be Barbossa in the scene on Big Thunder Mountain; it was Ratcliffe

For a while, the story was only supposed to have eighteen chapters.  This is why, honestly, there’s a serious pacing problem with the first six or so chapters; they were plotted for that original length

Jack wasn’t originally supposed to die.  Cinderella was meant to use the last wish to save him.  Then the concept of the Wills was created, and that solved the issue I was running into of the Villains getting the Lamp back

A good chunk of the original plot line was the girls collecting a bunch of characters from different iconic rides throughout not only the main park, but the resort as a whole, to fight the Villains.  This was how Jack was going to be brought in.  It was also originally how Little Leota got involved, as she was the pick from that attraction

Related to this, the Princesses were going to take one of the ghosts off of the Tower of Terror (the starlet), and Aurora had to stay behind in the hotel in order to make the trade

Gaston was briefly considered to have an important role (yes, really)

There were indeed worse things.  Far worse.  The gnawing, hollow ache that had been trapped in her chest.  The feeling of listless drifting in the dark.  If this of all things was to be her anchor, then so be it.

So it’s been exactly two years since chapter 31 got posted, and I decided to return to the original Hellship™ and that scene because nothing gets a ship back together like a nearly getting killed by an axe-happy ghost bride.
