A satsified “heh~” sung from his teeth. His fingers hanging in the air for a little before falling at his hip. Izaya wasn’t phased by his cold response; it was the only response he expected. But, giving Levi that cold nostalgic rush to the stomach…

“Thanks to you, no doubt,” he gave out a little before the door slammed shut behind him.

“Oh my, are we playing the part of the protective guardian?” His phone was tucked away in his back pocket, his steps began retreating from the window, “It’s almost touching, really.”

His next gesture had no such comfort, and Izaya antagonisingly traced his fingertips across Levi’s jawline. “Almost.”

Irritatingly so familiar, those fingers. His fingers. Never gave away any kindness or sympathy. They were cold and sinister… yet it was part of what drewn Levi in. What Levi needed.

A funny feeling. Those days were long past.

With nothing to deliver back but rejection, Levi drove away from the touch.

His slim fingers sipped in his pocket, pulling out a second phone. Already a spree of quick gestures moved on the screen.

The only response he gave Levi, was a low chortle. He was grinning wildly.

“Creep.” Getting up from his seat, he wrapped his cravat back around his neck. “You’re not getting near him while he’s here.”

“Absolutely. After all so much has happened in less than a year…” The red in his eye seemed to brighten. All was fair game, there were no exceptions in his book. And as friendly warning hung in his ear, he couldn’t help but offer one as well.

“No, we wouldn’t want that now would we? He has a lot to care for these days, seeing as the new baby brother is such a hassle,” A memory comes to mind of a boy in gold eyes and devil’s smile. He murders a man with a rip of his head, “Anyway, I’ll let you settle in for now. We’ll be seeing you soon, alright? Take care~”

Izaya presses the end button, handing it back the man waiting in the background, “Looks like Juuichi is back at the penthouse. I expect he’ll be wanting his estranged father’s attention…Now isn’t that sweet?”

“Estranged what, now?” Appearing to have been barely bothered, Levi brought his sight to a close. Not sparing enough reaction to look up to meet the poisonous gaze of that treacherous eyes.

His remaining free hand twisted the key clockwise before adding six digit codes until the beeping security light by the side turned green and sounded a click.

“I’ll drop by when I have the time. I won’t be going anywhere for a while. Catch up what I missed?”

The tidy living room came into his view. No sign of anyone stepping inside since the last time he left it less than a year ago. Figures. Not even Levi would go through the pain of dropping a visit here uninvited with all the lethal traps he placed in every bit of the corner.

“Try not to hurt the Captain so much when I’m around, yes?” The musing in his voice gave away no warmth but a threatening vibe he often carried.

His lips curl in a muffled laughter, shoulders shaking some, “What a clever boy you are~” strolling off through the room, he never looked in Levi’s way. “Oh by the way. If you do happen to have the chance, why not swing on by? I know we both would be dying to have a nice little chat with you.”

“Oh not at all,” a laugh flicked off his tongue, “I’m just getting warmed up. Besides, our dear Levi is more of a grunter rather than a moaner.”

He didn’t need to turn around to guess where the other’s glare was pointed towards.

One sweep over in Levi’s direction, and facing back to his reflection in the glass, Izaya’s voice changed in pitch, “ Why, of course, where else would he be? In fact, dare I say he’s in quite the compromised position. It’s such a scandal, really. Imagine if someone were to walk in just now to—Oh. Have I said too much?”

“I’m not hearing any moans, unfortunately,” he slyly nudged, fingers twirling the hair around his cheek in anticipation. “Has your skill been compromised at such a young age, Izaya?”

Levi rubbed his forehead impatiently. Handing the phone over to the looming figure at his side seemed to be a easiest way out to get this over with, but he gave it a second thought.

“Kid,” A long sigh in between, “if you’re not going to speak any universally understood sentence….”

His arm motion came smoothly, taking the phone out of Levi’s hand on excellent timing. He rounded his stoic companion, and found taking in the view of the balcony window to be more of a treat.

“So, it would seem the delectable troublemaker has finally come home. How was the long trip?”

“You had to ask?” his voice covered in exaggerated surprise, immediately recognising who it was. “Oh, so there are things you don’t know about. I thought you were a pro at stalking.”

And then realisation hit him. Pursing his lips in glee, Juuichi spoke between a held back laughter, “Wait, is he at your place?”

She shot him a long side eye, “….Uh hu.”

Dipping her hand back in her pocket, she then retrieved his phone instead. The numbers appeared on his newer phone, and she pressed it to her ear to listen again. Turning side to side, she expected the same result.

“What?”

Her heart skipped a beat. Marie’s mouth left ajar, with eyes slowly opening wide. The monotone voice she could pick up anywhere. It was Levi. A second pull from the phone, she could see the unique number bright on the screen. Her eyebrows raised high, choking on the air in her lungs, as if the words she wanted to say were caught. She darted her gaze in horror at the young man’s direction, and back the phone. This-this was a mistake–No, it wasn’t. This was Levi’s voice. Levi. Panic rose in a rush, and the phone was pushed hard into his hands. “Wrong number!” -And with little time given, she sprinted off to the stairway.

He blinked a couple of time to grasp the bizarre occurrence. WIth that woman skipping out of sight in just a matter of seconds, Juuichi drifted back to his still-connected phone and brought it to his ear as he finally decided to let out his voice the first time since he arrived in this god-forsaken country this morning;

「何って言ったの？彼女を怖がって。」

He wasn’t deaf it would seem.

Another roam over his scratched handwriting, and another hesitant once over, she gradually managed to speak dryly. “Marie…But I haven’t said ye…Fils de pute.”

Her shoulders heaved with a long sigh falling from her lips, already her other slim fingers slipping in her jacket pocket. A few muttered swears twisted off her lips as she began taping away at her keyboard. Judging by the structure of her tone, it appeared she was talking to herself.

Marie’s head lolled off towards the side, waiting for the rings on the other side to smooth into the voice of the father. But there was no answer.

“No one’s there.”

He gave his head a slight tilt to the side. A glimmer of amusement spreads all over his child-like facade.

‘He’s there,’ the yellow note says, attached to a phone, ’Sorry, perhaps you should have used mine instead. I forgot he doesn’t take unknown numbers. He’s a busy person.’

Marie gave a double take. But. He was. How was this possible? He was just over there. There was hardly any time to process, as a yellow piece of paper was forced towards her perplexed features. Round irises scanned the scribble, and excess green frosting edges, then back to the smiling boy. Still she couldn’t shake the bewilderment

“You want me to call who?” she asked only to retract shortly. Reasonably so, it wouldn’t be a random guess to suspect he held some sort of disability by ear or tongue.

If only the circumstances weren’t so strange.

“What would you have me say?” She tried again for clarity.

With a carefree smile, he scribbled something really fast, ‘My father. Just tell him that I’m back from boarding school. Thank you… What’s your name?’ The note was back in her face, complete with a drawn kitten at the bottom.

Her brows knit in response, she didn’t need to look directly down to know what he’d done. The poor monster cupcake, it never had a chance.

“Right. I see you have…other icing matters to attend.” Her forehead didn’t smooth, even as she slowly turned completely around, dropping all stares after the terrible green massacre. Perhaps it was for the best? Besides, the rugged, musk of cologne she sprayed in this guy’s bathroom, was not helping the light pound in her temple.

Without another delay, her heavy steps carried her off to the elevator. But she couldn’t help casting another scrunched look in the boys direction.
