If you find a typo in a fanfic, and the author doesn't say they don't want criticism, do you point it out?

No, I always ignore it

I leave a comment on the work politely letting them know

I point it out in a comment but don't bother being polite

I private message the author on another platform (tumblr/insta/etc)

I think unless an author outright says that corrections and suggestions are welcome in the author's note or elsewhere, I don't think it's polite to point out the mistakes.

It's free art, who am I to critique a single brush stroke within a masterpiece?
