Theater Dream
5 years ago today I mentioned to my best friend McLane that if she wants a theater scene in Columbus, we should create one. We should buy a theater and make it our own, with the shows we want and our own crew and visions. We should do drunk Complete Works of Shakespeare Abridged twice a year on our birthdays and have the whole place be b.y.o.b. those nights. We should do improv and stage combat workshops in the summer. We should paint fairies on the walls and take a week off to go to Ireland every year. I told her this when she was disheartened and almost hopeless about the future, and I wanted her to feel like she can make the future her own. I would stay in Columbus for this dream, buy a house next to hers. I would be a seasonal forever and rehearse every night. I would take a business class. I would be in it with her. If now, five years hence, this still hasn’t happened and we’re still floundering in the gap between our generation’s aspirations and "qualifications," let’s. Fucking. Do it.
