Again, please ONLY count objects (or concepts) you consider partners and that you are romantically and/or sexually involved with. I will have a poll next week for platonic and familial relationships, and another poll after that about comfort objects/ESSAs.
Recieving a lot of objectum hate recently! Being objectum is something I have extremely extremely thick skin about. More than anything, I'm very happy and willing to be an attention sink for clowns to waste their energy barking at. It delights me how upset you are by something just so absolutely banal and insignificant. Like oh my god who fucking cares!
The only thing that makes me genuinely sad is that it is almost always other autistic or queer people throwing the hate. Like girl, the allistic cishets aren't going to like you more. Stop trying to be palatable to people who will never accept you.
A quick n' sloppy write-up I did for a question on r/objectum_sfw: "Has anyone heard of developing the ability to be POSIC over time vs. it being something you've always experienced?"
Extremely passionate about this in particular as I feel like I was failed where anecdotal resources were concerned.
I have been aware of my objectumsexuality for a little over four years now. That being said, I did not become familiar with POSIC as a term until relatively recently and did not communicate with my primary object partner despite her being present in my life for six years now.
None of us are taught how to communicate and or interact with objects outside of their intended purpose. I had the distinct understanding that objects had a certain "vibe" to them and I have always been endeared to them; something similar or adjacent to your "you just feel it" comment, but did not communicate with my object partner until I heard the experiences of another OS person and decided to open myself up to the concept.
I think that "not knowing" is a layered issue and can be attributed to multiple reasons:
An overly human view of relationships and communication. For a very long time I did not exactly understand what being in an object relationship entailed, particularly when it came to the reciprocation aspect. Human relationships are very collaborative. We talk to them, they talk back ā but objects typically don't respond or "converse" with us. Being in an object relationship requires a fair degree of heavy lifting and abstract thinking on the side of the person, which leads me to my next point.
Internalized shame. This was the primary issue I struggled with: a distinct feeling of shame and embarrassment when trying to communicate with my object, especially verbally. Hearing the sound of your own voice is nerve-wracking on a good day, much less when alone and essentially "talking to yourself." For me personally I felt that I had to do a lot of work to stop feeling the knee-jerk reaction of "this is stupid" every time I spoke to, touched, or was otherwise interacting with my car in a "nonstandard" way.
A very narrow idea of what communication exactly encompasses. Most of the communication with my object partner is nonverbal. I do not literally talk to my car or hear her talk back. Most of our communication is very "vibe focused" or coincidental; the sound of her settling, how she catches the light, etc. This isn't true for every POSIC person, but in my personal experience, learning to communicate with my car required a lot of sitting with myself and "listening" to her until I got a feel for her voice. I genuinely think that a lot of objects will eventually show themselves to you if you are patient enough, but it's a skill that needs to be learned first for some of us. I know it was for me.
Ultimately I think that being POSIC comes more easily to some people than others, and it's entirely possible that someone may just be at the beginning of their journey and exploring just how POSIC they may be. It's definitely a spectrum as everyone perceives even the same objects ( public ones come to mind ) wildly differently. Being POSIC is a wide term and something I do think that you can develop over time as it's something that's ultimately colored by our preconceived biases, lived experiences, communication style, etc.
