idk if this is a hot take or not but I do not think you are dumb or a bad person if you did not catch that Jax is trans before goose confirmed it
Tadc was made for a very specific and very queer audience. The hints Goose made about Jax’s transness were for that audience.
however, we know that tadc has attracted an audience much bigger and different from its target demographic.
There was this post I read about a person who was meeting with their friend who was talking about Harry Potter. When that person told their friend what a piece of shit jrk is they were shocked because they had never heard that info before. The person was flabbergasted because everyone they knew online was talking about it.
Later when the two people were choosing a restaurant to go to the person wanted to go to a restaurant that had an owner that was apparently very abusive. When the friend told their person the information they were shocked. the friend was flabbergasted because everyone they knew online was talking about it.
We overestimate how much everyone knows about what you know.
Most people who watch tadc do it casually or do not hang out on the side of the fandom full of queer people, they hang out in theory circles and art spaces.
They do not know what an egg is, they do not know what it means to see the tv glow, they do not know what progesterone is, they don’t even know what cis means.
and I know this may sound shocking to you, but for some people tadc is the first exposure they have ever had to the concept of trans people.
This is not me theorizing . I had to explain to multiple people on tadc themed discord servers what being trans is so they could understand what I was talking about.
hell, I am part of the target audience and even I did not know goose was trans until fairly recently.
these people are incapable of picking up on the hints because they barely even know anything about trans people beyond the surface level if they know anything at all.
I think it is fine if initially you feel a little shocked or like it came out of nowhere or even a little betrayed.
what’s important to me at least is how you react to that information.
When you either accept that she is trans and try to learn more about the community to better understand Jax and educate yourself or you burry your head in the sand and continue to deny she is trans even when being shown clear evidence that she is, that will determine my opinion of you.
if you did not see the hints you are not stupid or an asshole. But if you deny that they were ever there and argue with everyone online about Jax gender then I will think a lot less of you.
Try to educate yourself instead of making excuses to stay ignorant. Who knows, maybe you will learn something about yourself too.
