“And that quote, “The only disability in life is a bad attitude,” the reason that that’s bullshit is because it’s just not true.” - Stella Young
[IDs: Screenshots from the late, great, Stella Young’s TED Talk: I’m Not Your Inspiration, Thank You Very Much. Stella is a wheelchair-user sitting up on the stage in front of a massive crowd. In these screenshots, she’s saying, “No amount of smiling at a flight of stairs has ever made it turn into a ramp. Never. (Laughter. Applause.) Smiling at a television screen isn’t going to make closed captions appear for people. No amount of standing in the middle of a bookshop and radiating a positive attitude is going to turn all those books into braille.]
I use this speech and the underlying theories a lot in my PhD, but Stella Young honestly had one of those voices that needs to be heard by everyone, so I figured I’d post my favorite part of the speech here. If anyone remembers that time I threw myself onto the floor For The Vine, you’ll know that I also hate the quote: “The only disability in life is a bad attitude”. Stella just conveyed the message with less pain.

Happy Disability Pride Month 2022!
When corporations inevitably try to commodify disability in the same way they rainbow-wash queer identities, remember that toxic positivity and overly-inspiring videos do nothing to address the real inaccessibility and discrimination that disabled people of all intersecting identities experience!
Just a picture dump from punk shows I've been to.
So I love to go to punk shows, I'm also an ambulatory wheelchair user. So whenever I go to punk shows, I'm using my wheelchair as it's hard for me to get out of the house otherwise.
At the last show I went to, someone went up behind me and grabbed my chair. I cannot explain how terrifying it is to have someone come up behind you and grab your chair out of nowhere. Luckily, someone was filming at the time, and I was able to get a screenshot of the person who grabbed me.
I cannot express enough, do not grab someone's wheelchair! It's just as bad as grabbing someone and pulling them along. If you wouldn't do it to able body person. Why is it ok for you to do it to a disabled person?
I made a new backpatch for my wheelchair. The first picture is the new one and the second is the old.
I made this new one with velcro which attaches much cleaner to the chair. That way, you can actually see all the patches.
I find these backpatches are much better than a traditional battle jacket for me. As Battle jackets get really heavy, which makes it harder to push myself. This way I can still participate.
If you make one I would love to see!
Portrait of my roommate @nixxsmokeweed I did today with some paint pens :3 they got their patch pants on in the pic :)
My roommate did this painting of me. It's super cool. If you don't already Follow them you should
Pics from the last punk show I tried to use Skate ramp But I fell and my wheelchair fell on me.
Photo dump for the art show I did With my Roommate yesterday
First art show of the year today.
My son has emotionally bonded with a rubber screaming chicken. I have a horrible headache.
December 9th
Some picks a friend took of me. At the show. I went to a couple days ago.
I want one so bad but I bet it's so expensive.
I have survived my weekend. I feel like all of my Lem's are made out of yellow, and all lived on for the past 3 days is sleep. I'm starting to feel up a little more Alive though
I have a super busy Weekend. And I'm definitely going to be pushing myself. To the extent where I don't think. I'm going to be able to leave my bed. Once Monday comes I'll keep you posted.
Can't stop shaking is it because of the anxiety or Low blood sugar, who knows?
I personally have not talked about how I ended up in a wheelchair. I was hit by a mini van That was speeding 80 miles per hour. I was pronounced dead so I don't take shit like this lately. Death threats Are not Ever a proper response and anyway Especially Stupid internet Discord I have read all of the Contacts to the post. And I still think it's stupid and biphobic For so many different reasons. One, the lesbian and bisexual community have Stan Together for years. It's basic queer history. I get being frustrated, but you're 21. You should know better than to post death threats Especially Because it's still up right now. What's wrong with you? What kind of adult does that you're supposed to be A rolemode for young queer people. Instead your pushing biphobic bullcrap.
