Someone opened my eyes to the possibility of this fellow from issue #16 (most likely the "Oracle" Kari mentioned, and a previous wielder of the Magenta Flame) being Aurakles, a Neanderthal given powers by the New Gods who became Earth's first superhero. Which would be cool as hell, and makes me wonder if the Face of Steel is also gonna be tied into Fourth World stuff.
Aurakles was the World's first superhuman. Back in 40,000 B.C., the New Gods visited Earth and experimented upon a Neanderthal, endowing him
Absolute Green Lantern #16 Spoilers: Color Me Genuinely Surprised
The cover and solicit really had me thinking this issue would consist entirely of Sin Es Tro flexing on the main cast, but I'm not mad at what's being explored here.
Hoo boy. If I had a nickel for every cryptic message in this series' opening pages...
So Kari's in a limbo of sorts (ha ha), and she's gotten the truth of the universe relayed to her by a mysterious "Oracle". Is this individual the true face behind the Voice of OA? Are they a prominent Abin Sur or Ain Aur? Is this the Martian reaching out to Kari for reinforcements against Anti-Life? Once again, who the hell knows?
Damn. I know I really shouldn't be surprised by unceremonious deaths in a Ewing book, but I'm still unsure how to feel about this one. Delusional Simon fan that I am, I'll cope with this through the fervent belief that he just ceased to exist on this plane of reality, and that he can still come back...somehow. (Glad that Benedict Arnold wannabe Jon Double got cooked in return, at least.)
Big fan of this flashback showing that Hal would've inevitably operated under a more benevolent form of "chaotic action" given enough time. The "we're all in this together, and we're all we've got" sentiment reminds me a bit of Luthor's revelation at the end of All-Star Superman.
I'm guessing this He-Man-looking fellow is either the "Oracle" Kari mentioned, or some figure who mastered the Magenta Flame before the Face of Steel corrupted the Spectrum. Regardless, now a member of our main cast finally knows about Bad Idea #0, yahoo.
Katma breaking away from Sinestro over his ruthlessness really is a multiversal constant. Darkseid willing, this will mark the beginning of her becoming a long-term ally of the Evergreen Gang. Please ignore my previous commentary about unceremonious deaths--
Yes Thaal, we see the fit. What we don't want to see is that face, though--yeesh.
Insults towards the Controller's appearance aside, it's super-duper clear that the revelation of the universe's moral arc bending towards Anti-Life is what pushed him towards accelerating that decline. Guess he didn't have anyone around to help him "turn that despair into delight" as John Jones would put it.
Hell yeah, it's nice to see Jo start to take on the role I was expecting from her--guiding the Adepts of OA towards a more effective interpretation of the Spectrum of Light. And with the story's themes and such on her side, there's no way things can go wrong from here!
Oh. Never mind, then.
I do really like the creative decision to have a whole scene where the main cast is like "The world might suck, but at least we've got community to keep us going!" and then introduce a character who's understandably like "The community sucks ass too, so I won't be helping you dorks at all."
Very hyped to see how aligning with MU affects one's use of the Green Flame, also interested in seeing how Jo manages to guide Jess through this "Power Ring" stage of her character development.
before we start posting that july is gay wrath month letโs consider that july is disability pride month first and foremost. the โbe gay do crimesโ memes can wait
before this post breaches containment and people start going โwhy not both heheheโ i want you to seriously consider the very long history of disabled peopleโs existence being pushed aside and/or seen as secondary. i promise you itโs not going to hurt to hold onto the memes and give disabled people space for visibility and celebration.
i say this as a disabled trans person whose trans identity is made front-and-center to the (mainly cis) people who know iโm trans but my identity as a disabled person is brushed off by the very same people.
HAPPY ABSOLUTE MARTIAN MANHUNTER DAY!!! Iโm SO SO excited to read the last issue soon WOOHOO!!! Im so glad my friend told me to pick it up all those months ago, and even if it took me a bit of time to actually sit down and read it (as it goes with most new media), iโm unbelievably glad i did!!
Absolute Green Lantern was cooking up something really really interesting, until about issue 7 when like. the good part of AGL has been the metaphysical-ness of it combined with X-Files stuff. there was this very good sense of ominous-ness. but then issue 7 moves the camera in too close to the alien stuff and outer space and it becomes less interesting and more mundane, which is not what this series needs. Plus, one of my favorite things about the Absolute universe/comics has been how they change up the 'villains', sometimes by making them friends with the heroes, but so far Sinestro is still the same old Sinestro, which is a bummer.
Maybe I haven't read enough stories involving Sinestro, but the Absolute version doesn't strike me as the same-old. There's the same general concept of him leading a faction imposing an unjust order on the universe through brutality, but the added layer of hypocrisy that comes from him genuinely believing he represents "unfettered will" while being someone else's pawn really makes him special. Of course, he could stand to have a bit more nuance, and that'll naturally come when we get his backstory in the coming issues.
Dogs serve as a kind of virtue eater for Americans to pour all of their kindness into without the risk of improving society or being nice to someone with any agency
Come to think of it, it really is insane that my entire country is burning alive and literally no one in the rest of the world cares. Thousands of Indians are dying every day from the heat, it's 45+ degrees in multiple areas, the government couldn't give two fucks, we're getting severe warnings and red alerts, and not a soul outside of South Asia is speaking about it because why would you ever care about brown people
USA folks, that is a consistent temperature range hitting 113ยฐ. Death Valley temperatures. In Banda, it hovered between 116ยฐ-118ยฐ (47ยฐ-48ยฐ C) for a week straight.
This has been happening all month with little to no international media attention. Here are a few organizations you can check out for resources or to support:
throughout the late 2000s and early 2010s, our generation was inundated with aave. it eclipsed lolcat as the "funny way to talk." ain't nobody got time fo dat turns into dat boi o shit waddup. this is blatantly not an "aracial" or "gen z" way to talk. it IS black english. not to mention the amount of black reaction images!!
WHY, specifically, is it black peoples' facial expressions that are seen as just so comical or exaggerated? analyze the history of this nation's comedy and tell me why you might be predisposed to thinking of black peoples' faces as just, "more emotive" or exaggeratedly funny than a white or nonblack person's
and throughout those years, 00s-10s, many black bloggers -- victims of the mass staff-led purge (under the cover of them being 'russian' while reichblr still exists) -- they DID tell us it was a problem, DID try to educate people who freak out at the insinuation of 'being racist,' DID argue, DID point out the duplicity and the appropriation and the gross equivalence of african american slang with unintelligence, goofiness, etc. and they were ignored, abused, cancelled, chased off, until being eventually mass deleted by our racist transmisogynistic staff.
we didn't do enough, and the generation after us gen z "kids" didn't stop the trend. using the '-ahh' suffix. rizz. no cap. ate. delulu. it's giving. it's serving. crash out. lock in. aura. tea. main character. bruh. slay. real. keep it 100.
all of the following images are or were popular reaction images! what do they all have in common?
it feels like the effort to categorize slang as AAVE and not 'gen z' or 'gen alpha' slang has really petered out. it feels like we stopped talking about digital blackface in an era where the administration is posting ai-generated videos of black women who speak and act like exaggerated stereotypes and it frustrates me because we all have a responsibility to understand our generation's role in normalizing this type of racist shit for kids today. this needs to be addressed!
Black people will never stop talking about this, but when we are on sites such as Tumblr, where so many of the white people feel that not only are they not racist, but that calling their racist behavior racist is emotional warfare on them, they will make sure to keep Black voices as silenced as possible.
Also, a lot of the Black people who got deleted or run off of the site weren't even accused of any type of Russian anything. A lot of them were just run the fuck off by the white Tumblr base on harassment shit.
