Harry fell in love with Louis when he was fifteen, when they were just a scrappy little pop rock MySpace band, and knew he could never tell him. Six years later, their band’s making the highly anticipated follow-up to their breakthrough album, and he’s still in love with Louis and still swallowing it down. It’s harder than ever; he's trying to cope with the end of their casual ‘what happens on tour stays on tour’ arrangement and trying to write songs with Louis without giving everything away. But he’s used to living with aching absence, to putting the band above his heart, to the way Louis loves him so much and never enough. He can survive. Then Louis drunkenly marries a fan. And Harry breaks, drowning himself in the album, and the past, and being a cryptic shit on Twitter, and meanwhile the whole band has to learn how to fake a show.

i thought lucid would be about lucid dreaming when we learned the title came from it - because “how did i get here” is something some people ask themselves in order to do it. like, it’s the idea in inception lol - track your movements, the events in the dream, and being aware of that can make you aware you’re dreaming. then, when i heard the song, i was like that’s definitely what this is - it sounds so dreamlike, like describing a dream. and i thought about lucid dreaming as a metaphor (bc i think hl both use dreaming as a metaphor) - learning how to gain control of your life/your own story, turning something that happened to you into another reality you can exist in… and i thought, god, this song is actually super fitting for the process he goes through in my fic (https://archiveofourown.org/works/47338741) where he literally learns how to lucid dream in order to gain control of his situation.

and THEN HE SAID THIS ???? 😭 what. wdym he’s obsessed with lucid dreaming and wants to do it. wdym he’s tried 😭😭

i can’t remember if he’s mentioned it before? i know it helps with sleep paralysis, so it feels like something he might’ve mentioned - but i can’t believe he’s written a song about it, and he’s so excited talking about it, and 😭 oh my god

i fucking WROTE HIM learning how, going through the process (granted i skimmed over it more than i’d have liked 😅) in 2023, it is literally the catalyst in the fic that allows for the story to change. i can’t believe that could map onto real life even a little bit 😭💀
