Meiko sighed, her bespeckled, green eyes glaring up at the dispatch office. She smoothed her hair down, and stuffed her hands into her pants pocket. She followed the regular dress code, black trousers, a button down, and a blazer. All of these were a tad bit more formfitting, since they were womens. Rather than men's shoes, she wore black pumps, giving her three inches or so. Stepping in, all eyes were on her. A woman? yes. William was to show her about, and she asked for him at the front desk.
When the phone on his desk rang, William frowned, and made a little tch, clicking with his tongue.
āWhat?ā he barked to the phone as he answered it, āIām busy.ā
There was a little silence as the person on the other side spoke, and William rolled his eyes, closing the file that lay on his desk, knowing that not much work will be done from now on. There was a newbie, and he had the questionable pleasure to show him around.
āFine. Tell him to wait downst-ā¦. what do you mean itās a she?ā
Perfect. Just perfect. Why all bad things had to happen to him?
The reaper stood up from his chair heavily, and with a very bitter face, went downstairs to pick up this new reaper. He already gave his new underling a charming nickname in his mind⦠nightmare.
Once he spotted Meiko waiting at the reception, he felt tiny heart attack approaching. This was terrible. Just terrible.
āWhere have all good old-fashioned values gone?ā he whined, as a peculiar way of greeting, āDonāt women wear dresses anymore?ā he raised an eyebrow, reaching out with his hand towards Meiko, āWilliam T. Spears, Iām a supervisor of the collection department.ā he introduced himself.
Her replied was like a nice warm blanket around his stone cold heart. For the first time in his reaper life, he felt he could really trust someone, really rely on someone. He wanted to open up to her, and let her inside this wall he built around himself. And he had a feeling Meiko wanted the same. It was worth dying if they were to meet in this life.
āTell me again, then.ā he requested. Maybe it was a little silly or naive, but he wanted to seal their first couple fight for good, and begin a new chapter for them.
Meiko had been with many a fellow but never bad she told them those three words. They could have said them to her but if she didn't feel it, she wouldn't return it. And often times, that ended with a split. She was hard to be pinned down and no one really seemed to catch her eye in any way except physically, past companions were a way to pass the time. But William was not like this. He never had been. Sincerity was a first and she loved it.
Chuckling lightly at his response, her cheeks flushed a flattering pink and her eyes didn't leave his. "I love you, William." And her little heart couldn't help but toss and turn.
