âSo I ended up buying five coffees before I even got a sip of one. I was pretty much traumatized from it and I almost tore my colleagues head off.â
âoh, no. how did that happen?â
charlotte.
already on her fifth drink of the night, charlotte was in a much better mood than normal. throwing back her glass, she danced along to the music. it wasnât until she felt her hip hit something that she looked up, a smirk on her face. âis this your way of asking me to dance?âÂ
blue eyes widened at her friendâs flirty demeanor. it eventually drew out a loud giggle from noelle, who had taken a long, blank-facedâno, she wasnât drunkâpause to process what charlotte asked. âchar, i asked you if you wanted to come to the toilet with me. but if youâd like to conga line our way over there, iâm sure we can manage.âÂ
andrew.
â so say - hypothetically of course - that youâre going to eat cereal for two meals a day. would you rather eat cinnamon toast crunch or lucky charms? this is all hypothetical, of course, â
ââ thatâs a hard one, both are really good - i think iâd have to go with the cinnamon toast crunch.. itâs phenomenal with almond milk. it has my hypothetical vote.â

âyou guys have a matisse exhibit on right now? oh iâm so there.â abriâs eyes lighting up, henri matisse was definitely one of her favorite artists. âwell iâll probably be dead another day or so, but then itâs back to work for me.â
âyou know... youâre always welcome to visit. i could even show you what wasnât chosen to be displayed.â noelle spoke between chuckles, amused by the surge of energy abri suddenly had. âiâm glad to see your ambition never went anywhere. did you miss working, abrielle?â

Robbie: really?? Robbie: Iâm hoping my room mate will let me.
noelle: yes absolutely! best of luck noelle: do you think heâll be my friend if i come round in this?? noelle: how did you come across the little cutie?
charlotte.
a wicked grin spread across the girlâs lips as she reached out and patted noelle on the cheek. âhey, this is the height that gives me the ability to haul your drunk ass into the taxi after a good night. the heels are just a way of making my ass look cute while doing it,â charlotte winked, squeezing the blondeâs arm lightly. usually the girl would take noelleâs offer instantly, but she hesitated for a moment as they walked out into the hallway and she went to lock her door. âthatâd be great, but i can handle being the responsible one for once if youâre in need of a good blackout night.â
noelle looked at charlotte with a warm smile, then furthered her own dramatics with a hand over her heart and a tiny sniffle. âoh, char, why are you and âyour cute assâ so good to me?â with that as her response, she knew the taller girl would catch onto her roundabout way of her saying yes, she didnât want to pay much attention to just how many drinks she was going to consume tonight, and no, she didnât want to talk about it. then she fell silent for a moment, deep in thought, but she bounced back quickly, and quite literally, by bumping into charlotte once theyâre out on the sidewalk. âwhat were you up to before this, babe?â

noelle: so wonderful to wake up to noelle: if you can you should heâs the cutest thing!
abrielle.
âa baby! it came as a surprise to me too. i wasnât told until a few months before the little one was born. it was a welcomed surprise though, for sure.â she smiled, running a hand through her hair as she noticed the girlâs focus change. âwell, iâm glad to hear that itâs going great! and iâm jealous at your lack of jetlag.âÂ
âthank you. you know, youâre always welcome to make an appearance there â i think youâd like the matisse exhibit.â noelle nudged the other girl lightly with her elbow, wiggling her brows. a smile eased its way back to her face, somewhat teasing abri. "so whatâre you up to right now? out with all this jet lag?"
patrick.
The male with nervous energy looked at the woman and offered her a smile as he walked over, âNoelle, is it?â He asked stopping at the counter to rest his arms on it. Out of the handful of times heâd visited the Auckland Museum before Patrick had never been graced with the presence of Noelle, but she seemed really nice and he was hoping that was true. âIâm Patrick. I believe weâve been exchanging emails. Is the artist here yet?â he asked sweetly unaware of the change in plans.
ânoelle, it is!â the young curator managed to get out mid-yawn. she hoped that her personality would outshine her lethargic appearance today. she wasnât very concerned with coming across as too professional with him - if anything, it seemed like he needed a more casual approach. âactually, patrick,â she sent him a sheepish look and gestured to herself as she maneuvered around the counter to stand beside him. âthe artist i arranged to meet you canceled last minute, so would it be okay to speak to me instead? otherwise, iâm sure we can find you someone else with a bit of a wait.â
abrielle.
the grin that took over abriâs features was one that she couldnât stop upon hearing noelle laugh. it seemed as though â the longer their conversation went on, the more things abri found herself missing about the blonde. âthere was a lot of shouting âbaccala!â hell, itâs still ringing in my ears. theyâre still great, a little on the annoying side at times but every family has that. my cousinâs had a baby since the last time i saw them, so that was a nice surprise.â talking about her family was enough to keep her smiling for awhile, she did love getting to see her family when she could. âyeah! â iâm doing okay. and you? how are you doing?â Â
âwow, a baby? it sort of feels like itâs been years rather than a couple of months after hearing that,â noelle observed in a casual tone, but her gaze was carefully averted to something behind abri. funny how she still got a little antsy about what abri never, and maybe will never, call her out for. it was really the older girlâs fault for all but shutting the abri out in the beginning, and even after they eased back into speaking again, they both knew that they were out of each otherâs routines now. her gazed snapped back to the brunette once the subject shifted over to noelle. âiâve been pretty good. the galleryâs been great and i didnât go anywhere for the holidays, so no jetlag for me!â
alessia.
her new yearâs eve plans, her original new yearâs eve plans, had included a quick call at her favorite mongolian restaurant, a freshly made bed, netflix, and a, hopefully, fast asleep baby in the upstairs bedroom. she hadnât put much value â or ANY at all, really â on the holiday for years, rather holing herself up on her own, keeping her mind occupied with whatever new television show was the latest hype. â but plans didnât last very long in auckland. alessia shouldâve known she was to surely end up at one of her local go-to bar at some point into the night. whatever sort of magic her study group practiced on her, it worked, always. âcheers, EH,â her laughter rang through the crowded bar, a few heads turning in confusion, surprise, bewilderment. alessia herself threw her head back, drowning her sixth shot of cotton candy flavored vodka in a row. it was addictive. licking her lips, her lazy eyes fell onto the now empty dozens of shot glasses they had ordered no ten minutes before, her face immediately falling into a disappointed frown. her mind reeling, wrapping itself around the fact that they were out of alcohol for the moment being, eyes glued onto the stacks of sticky shot glasses, she missed her friends throwing their hands up to form a triangle above their heads, boop their own noses, or simply putting one of their index fingers down; a simple game they had taken on to play to elect the next person whose turn it was to get them a refill â more or less fairly. a chorus of laughter rang her ears, and her eyebrows knit in obvious confusion, alessia raised her head to be met by expectant eyes and proud grins all around. an instant groan rolled off her tongue with ease, her head falling again, defeatedly, and she threw her hands down, connecting with the table top and causing a chink of glasses; taunting, and she automatically turned to glare at the inanimate vessels. âalright, alright,â alessia threw her hands up, easily defeated, and added an overly dramatic sigh as she pushed herself up, and out of their booth. âbut if iâm paying, iâm choosing.â she left the mild warning hanging in the air, back already turned towards her friends, and her feet quickly carrying her towards the bar. ( @noellejpeg )
it was strange how, only two or three strides into the establishment, noelle found some quaint little bar to be a big upgrade from clooneyâs. it was a no-brainer that sheâd leave the restaurant once the opportunity came, just like the other younger employees attending. that was why, after she made a very polite exit, the woman found herself strolling the streets for somewhere to sit down until she found this bar. save for the â bearable, yet slightly unsettling â curious stares following the girl that was a little too dressed up in her pea coat and little black dress, the relaxed ambience of the room filled noelle with a greater sense of belonging than the fine dining restaurant did. this was what new yearâs eve was supposed to be like for noelle - loaded drinks, excitement, energy. being surrounded by such an atmosphere tempted her to stay here for the night. she knew that where she really wanted to go was wherever charlotte was celebrating new yearâs - because it was a sure-fire way of guaranteeing the night would live up to its potential. there was also the option of celebrating with her family, but noelle and her father established the tradition of getting lunch together the following day, and she didnât want to deal with the way he coddled, pitied her for longer than she could handle. glancing down at her phone, noelle let out the smallest of sighs when she was presented with notifications from practically everyone but her friend. the blonde only realized that she was lingering at an inconvenient spot near the entrance when she heard a particularly loud groupâs whooping and cheering, which tore her away from her thoughts and urged her to find a seat. ignoring the out-of-placeness of her clunky heels, noelle made her way over to the bar and settled onto a stool while she shrugged off her coat. it seemed that her entrance caught a bartenderâs eye and what was meant to be a friendly wave hello was misinterpreted as a motion that called him over. he was already more than halfway over to her when she realized what had happened. âoh, no, i havenât decidedââ the blonde shook her head and cleared her throat, her question directed towards anyone within earshot. âmaybe just a beer? actually, what do you recommend?â
