Deleting December 17
Though the recent announcement about Tumblr changing guidelines to ban adult content probably won’t impact this blog, I have decided to delete this account as soon as those policies go into place.
Students of queer history and culture know that all too often these sorts of morality moves end up penalizing those who are disenfranchised. The guidelines released by Tumblr leave far too much up to algorithms (which make mistakes) and unknown moderators (who are often biased).
Rather than stick around and slowly watch Tumblr collapse around me, I’ve made the decision to end my relationship with this platform. By deleting in full I know this blog will not slowly deteriorate from the whims of censors.
I had fun here over the last decade, but all good things come to an end. Be kind to each other, and live well.
