D.A. but I think Vernon still doesn't have a distinct rap style. His flow is very generic and his lyrics are the most juvenile of the group. I'm not saying he's terrible before anyone mobs me but I wish he'd mature more musically. He listens to a lot of American pop-rap and you can really tell in a way I don't personally enjoy. I know fandom hates hearing about it but there's a reason he washed out of SMTM. I honestly think he would've made a better dance idol.

as a vernon stan who’s monitored him since debut, who’s seen him grow and mature over the years as a person AND musically, i beg to differ. smtm was literally three years ago lmfao when will you people let that shit go?? like we all know his rapping on there didn’t really showcase the best of his capabilities but he’s immensely improved since then. that appearance does NOT define him as a rapper at all. his lyrics are the most ‘juvenile’ of the group?? okay??? is that a bad thing though? just because he doesn’t rap about love all the time doesn’t mean he’s inexperienced. he’d rather rap about what matters to him and prefers to use rapping as an outlet to express his own story, which is one of the reasons why i really admire him. he’s mentioned this tons of times but he wants to be able to showcase his desire to create music as a way to communicate with fans.

i don’t know how closely you follow seventeen but check out the lyrics to his solo mixtapes/songs like ‘sickness’ or ‘lizzie velasquez’. ‘lizzie velasquez’ in particular talks about his struggles with identifying with one ethnicity over the other. he expresses themes of oppression and racism and i don’t think that’s something that would be considered ‘juvenile’ and instead are actually very mature concepts. it’s a bummer that his rapping style doesn’t exactly suit your taste but please think twice before you go into someone’s askbox giving an unwanted narrow-minded opinion that criticizes him without giving any adequate reasons.

he’s improved so much are we listening to the same vernon? and like…….he’s a pop artist who listens to “pop-rap” music, CRAZY I KNOW!! seventeen makes fun pop music like what exactly are you expecting??? it’s okay to be fun and silly!! he also listens to a lot underground artists based on his music recs, but i don’t wanna be a hiphop snob or pretend i even know that much about it so i’ll let you do that. 

about the whole “juvenile” bit….you’re really rubbing me the wrong way anon. he’s 20 years old and a lot of the stuff he wrote when he was even younger. HE IS YOUNG, and he’s a half korean kid who grew up with a nice family in hongdae, what did you expect him to write about? the things he writes about are his own experiences, and it’s genuine and important to him. just because it’s not addressing a social justice or a political movement or whatever, does that make him more juvenile? in fact if he DID write about more serious topics it may actually come off as ingenuine because he didn’t personally deal with those kinds of things in his life. he’s definitely the type of person who wants his lyrics to come off as genuine and relatable but he can only do that to the extent of his experience. “lizzie velasquez” is actually the perfect example of that. 

i also remember a fan account where vernon talked about how people think his english is better than it actually is, because of how he looks. you can tell he really has to think when he speaks english sometimes, or he asks joshua about certain words. so before u knock it, maybe you should think about where’s he’s actually coming from.
