The Swan Princess, oil on canvas (1900) Russian Symbolist and Art Nouveau painter Mikhail Vrubel (1856–1910) depicts the moment when the Swan Princess transforms in this scene from the Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov opera, The Tale of Tsar Saltan. The figure looks back over her shoulder against a dark sea, her eyes reflecting a deep sense of Slavic mysticism. The work features Vrubel’s signature mosaic-like brushwork and jewel-toned palette. The model was his wife,  Nadezhda Zabela-Vrubel, who performed the role in the opera. Loc. Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow, Russia. Dim. 142.5 cm H x 93.5 cm W (56.1 x 36.8 in.).

“BRIGID” THE RED BROMELIAD

Purchased: January 9th, 2026 (at a farmers market)

Latin Name: Guzmania Lingulata

Potting Conditions: Bromeliad potting mix

Sunlight Requirements: Bright Filtered Light

Watering Requirements: Water moderately, mist regularly or as needed depending on the season and your areas humidity. Never put water in the bracts or flowering portion. This shortens the flowers life. Change water every 3-4 weeks to stop rot, as well as being careful not to overwater.

Signs of Problems: Brown leaf tips indicate not enough humidity in the air. Temperatures below 64 degrees Fahrenheit are bad for the plant. Brown patches on leaves can mean too much intense sun exposure in those certain spots.

Propagation: Follow typical pup harvesting protocol for Bromeliads.

Reasoning Behind My Name: Brigid is a goddess of fire and I love how fiery it is! So I named her Brigid!
