(I’m not terribly active on here these days am I? I’m not dead, just busy, and I have plans to post some things soon, in the meantime you can follow me on instagram at imaginationillustration, if you want to see my daily nonsense)

Anyways, if you are thinking of getting someone’s art (ie, my art) as a tattoo, please please reach out and ask! This is partly because it is polite to ask permission first... really it’s just a formal politeness, I have never refused anyone and I probably never ever will.

MOSTLY though, it’s because it feels good, guys! I am absolutely honoured every single time someone tells me they liked something I did so much that they want to mark it permanently into their skin. If I’m having a rough time and feeling like a failure because I’m not this big successful artist like some of the people I graduated college with, what is even the point of doing it, etc etc etc, someone reaching out to say hey, this thing you did, it’s meaningful to me, too, and I want to look at it on my skin every single day! guys, that makes me feel so happy.

Please always ask! I have never said no.

Well folks haven’t updated on here in ages and ages. (I post a lot more stuff on my instagram now, just because most of it is sketches and WIPs and it’s so much quicker. You can follow me at imaginationillustration)

Had a weird little revelation yesterday and was thinking maybe I would sign up again and start doing the comic expo again, starting next year, if I can figure out the logistics of hauling in / setting up everything by myself and without a vehicle. Probably I would focus on only buttons from now on, because it’s easier to display, easier to haul in, and much easier to create new stock than actual quality finished prints all the time.

Don’t know if I still had any YYC followers left on here but would there be any interest in that?

Old Souls

I was today years old when I learned that the director of Phantom of the Paradise also made movies like Carrie, Scarface, and Untouchables. I never looked it up and honestly assumed that because it’s such an over-the-top cult film, it was directed by some weirdo, and just luckily happened to have amazing shots...

I’ve been feeling super low motivated and wiped out this year, so I’m so happy I got myself to work on something new, even if it’s just a small simple thing, by returning to what I always love to do: anatomical studies combined with botanical elements.

Hades and Persephone

Hmm! I made this months ago but I don’t think I ever put it up here. This was a holiday gift for someone special. I was trying to experiment a bit with the linework. I’ve found myself frustrated because I feel like often, the little doodles that I sketch on the corner of papers have better, more interesting linework than I can make when I actually sit down and plan out a drawing properly. Somehow the lines take on a different aspect when it’s been planned and plotted and reworked over and over again.

This was kind of my attempt to capture the feeling of the interesting doodles that I make, but with the refined layout of a planned piece. I’m not sure. The colouring was a bit of an experiment too.... not sure, not sure.

A Sad Update...

Well folks...

With Covid shutting down all the comic expos last year, I had some time to think, and you know what... I am thinking I may not do cons anymore.

This wasn’t an easy decision, I’ve been thinking about it for literally a year. There’s a lot of reasons for it. I’ve been so busy and stressed with work and life, doing cons on top of all of that started to become really difficult for me to keep up with. I enjoy doing the cons so much, I have so much fun talking to people, but guys it’s also so much work to get ready for it and get it going. Plus I’ve gotta be honest, the last few years, I’ve become a lot less interested in doing fanart, and a lot more interested in doing my own personal stuff which is always a lot less popular.

It’s sad for me to say this, because I’ve been doing cons for so many years now. And who knows. Maybe after a bit of a break I’ll decide that I miss it and sign back up. For now though I have to say so long and thanks for all the fish. I’ve had so many good memories and good times, these cons kept me going through some really bad times, it feels sad to move on but, at least for now, I can’t keep up.

Drawtober #1: Carvings

Oopsies. I finished this days ago, uploaded it to my instagram, and completely forgot about posting it here.

Years ago I did illustrations for a Clive Barker project on deviantart and I had found some really great references for skin peeled back from the body. Alas I no longer have those photos, and couldn’t quickly find any good ones on google, so this is mostly from memory. I imagine the government is now monitoring me for googling “skin peeled back photos” haha.

I really like the extra time for the drawtober prompts this year, I feel like I’m actually finishing and enjoying the drawings. I am already working on the next one which is I believe due on the 10th.

Inktober?

Whoops! I forgot to post here. I am sad to say I will not be doing Inktober this year. This is mainly because I’m tired and stressed, and this year I know I do not have the energy to keep up with committing to doing a drawing every single day.

Instead I will be doing Drawtober, which has only six prompts for the month, so they will be spread out over a few days each and I think that will be much more manageable for me.

I will be going for a spooky theme which will include some gore and body horror, but it shouldn’t be anything much different than the rest of my work anyways and everything will be appropriately tagged. I have already started working on the first prompt!

Here is the postcard I made up to send out with the reylo card exchange this year. I tried something a bit different with the linework in the face, hmmm, not too sure about it. I wish I had taken some more time to fiddle around with the rendering of the flowers, but alas I had to hurry up and get these guys sent out!
