Mark Rothko, Untitled [Recto and verso], 1947
Collection of Kate Rothko Prizel © 1998 Kate Rothko Prizel & Christopher Rothko
In April this year, while preparing for the next rotation of the original Mark Rothko paintings from the Rothko family collection, we had a rare opportunity to examine the reverse of one of the Multiform paintings. On the back of the canvas, an early Surrealist-period painting had been preserved.
These are courtesy of the Rothko Museum in Latvia, very nice people.
