Nolan grew up in Nashville, Tennessee with his three siblings. Despite their family's wealth, his parents often seemed distant, preoccupied with their own lives. Nolan felt different from an early age, struggling with developmental milestones like walking and talking later than other kids. In school, he battled with ADHD and dyslexia, which made learning a constant uphill battle.
His parents hired tutors and pushed him hard, but Nolan often felt like a disappointment. He was held back in third grade, a humiliating setback that strained his relationship with his friends. Despite the challenges, Nolan found solace in swimming. The local team gave him a sense of belonging and an outlet for his emotions.
When Nolan was ten, he and his best friend Jordan went to a park to play hide and seek. In the midst of the game, Nolan lost track of time and failed to find Jordan when it was his turn to seek. Tragically, Jordan went missing and was never found. The incident haunted Nolan, filled him with guilt, and made him question his own worth.
As he grew older, Nolan struggled with his father's declining health and his mother's emotional absence. His older brother stepped in to take on a caregiver role, but Nolan felt inadequate in comparison. The death of his father was a crushing blow, and Nolan's grades and motivation plummeted. He barely graduated high school and spent his young adulthood drifting from job to job.
After years of aimless wandering, Nolan heard about Kismet Harbor from his older brother's wife. Intrigued, he saved up money from various jobs and moved there. He eventually found work at a local gas station and managed to buy a trailer, his first real place of his own. Although the job didn't last long. He ended up working at cafe and diner in town for a few months each. Nolan found satisfaction in working at a cat café called Whisker Haven. The cats provided a sense of peace and companionship that he had been missing.
Now in his late twenties, Nolan still thinks of Jordan every day. The trauma of his friend's disappearance lingers, with nightmares and guilt lingering long after the incident. He continues to struggle with ADHD and dyslexia, but finds solace in swimming, the ocean and surfing, and his newfound love of cats. Through it all, Nolan has learned that resilience and finding joy in the simple things are the keys to overcoming a difficult past.
He ended up meeting a girl, and after a trip back home to Nashville, they started dating. It was his first in many years over his fear of being hurt and left behind. It was great for a few months; she made him happy and made me feel like he didn't always fail. It was good till it was not, and it took a week or two of feeling off before Auora broke up with him. He took it hard and is upset and trying to think of why he bothered trying when people always leave him.
