I remember as a schoolboy being told by artist Roger Dean that Chris Ross’s SF book covers, featuring enormous space ships, were actually pictures of Vaccuum Cleaners, Irons, and things you’d find around the house. (Also being told by Roger that Chris Foss could indeed draw people and had illustrated The Joy of Sex.) Which meant I could never again see a Chris Foss spaceship without imagining it in a kitchen.

My pitch to DC was ‘Kid-genius builds ring to hack a Green Lantern power battery, Guy Gardner is not happy.’ Later I jumped at the chance to draw the return of Conner, Bart and the rest in Young Justice, but the Team needed a GL. I was asked if I had any ideas. Guess what, I did. So I volunteered my kid-lantern for duty, and the rest is history. Goes to show you, things rarely work out how you plan, but never ever throw an idea away, you may find a use somewhere else.

I legit served a man at my last job who was fully covered in nazi symbols and shit. I was wearing a rainbow pin on my uniform because 49 people in my community died in a hate crime. I will never forgive anyone who tells me that my rainbow pins are the same as a swastika
