Solidarity March| On the 19th September we organised a solidarity March and demonstration in Calais. Thousands of refugees from all affected countries, French citizens and English citizens came together to show solidarity and humanity. It was a beautiful day of singing, dancing, laughing and crying, we remembered those who lost their lives at the tunnel and prayed for those in the future. @james_fisher_photographer came up with the idea of recreating a symbolic canvas wall that represents the fence that keeps these people caged in like animals and used it to allow everyone to paint on it. Look at the expression on this guy's face using red paint. Says it all really. We are all human| We have to remind ourselves that some people in The Jungle in Calais risk their lives on a daily basis climbing fences, trucks and trains and incur some serious injuries. We would like to see a British asylum office In Calais to tend to the queries and needs of people looking to head over to at the very least provide advice and maybe deter people from putting their lives in danger. @doctorsoftheworld do the best they can on the ground seeing to the people but are still under resourced. The guy in the right has a leg injury that will now make it difficult for him to acquire supplies and stand in long queues for aid. Lucky his trusty pal next him is there to support him and help him where necessary. Teamwork and camaraderie is essential. We are all human. We are all human| I have met some really interesting people in "the jungle" lawyers, doctors, teachers, professors all of whom are running away from persecution. I have had some incredibly interesting conversations about international affairs, armed conflict, migration and economy. It surprises me so much that the media tends to push or disregard their knowledge and experience away especially because they would add so much value to our society's and do so much for public opinion. We have to remember that some of the people in the camp used to be wealthy well respected members of their local community and the loss of dignity is devastating. You can see the pain in their eyes and here the sorrow in their throats. We are all human. We are all human| This man has just been given some supplies for the coming weeks. Jackets jumpers, tissues and other items that may make life a little easier. The people of the jungle know winter is coming and are afraid of the conditions worsening. "How will we survive through the winter" There are many organisations on the ground now working together with the refugees to ensure there is a constant steady stream of supplies and people are looked after as best as possible. The authorities on both sides need to step up there game. Home| 🏠 Yet another structure disguising itself as a suitable home. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know that this structure will not hold for long. As winter approaches we need to get more wood, tarpaulin and the expertise to try and work with the people so that when the time comes they will have suitable shelter. Commerce| Some of the residents in the jungle are awaiting residency in France which can take up to 10 months. In the meantime they have set up small shops with some supplies for those who are able to afford it. This keeps them busy all the while making some money to look after themselves. They are extremely entrepreneurial and the Afghan community leads the way. There are a small handful of shops and restaurants that knock up some amazing traditional dishes. If you are volunteering in the jungle be sure to hit them up. Home| The Jungle now has around 4000 refugees, some looking to come to England and some looking to stay in France or head back into Europe. In the meantime structures like these are what they call home. Built with wood and tarpaulin, all shapes and sizes some surrender at first sight of wind or rain and some really do protect people from the elements. The inside is usually insulated with various throws and blankets and often there are around 6 people to each one. Iv stayed in one and although it was summer and pretty hot I lay there thinking damn winter is going to be rough here. So tents are normally semi permanent, for people who have just arrived or people who really are not looking to stay in Calais and risk their lives day and night at the tunnel. Bikes in the Jungle| Bicycles are an integral part of life in the Jungle. It allows the residents of the jungle to travel in and out of the centre of Calais with relative ease to pick up supplies such as food and medicine. Recently Critical Mass made a large delivery as well as a group from Holland. The jungle also has a number of mechanics and we often see them huddled around making improvements or fixing bikes. It gives people purpose and freedom. I have been going to the jungle at least once a week since the beginning of August. It's has been extremely emotional and physically demanding but now I feel that there's no turning back. Collectively we continue to work towards bringing and managing aid on the ground in the best way possible ensuring need and dignity is at the forefront of all of our actions. We started with zero experience just an interest in a subject that has gripped the media. We are currently also working on extending our reach to Southern Europe. The whole experience so far has been full of tears, love, anger agreements and disagreements but I am confident that in 6 months time we will be able to look back and say that what we are achieving is all worth it. On Saturday the 19th September we organised a peaceful march and solidarity agreement between the French public, British public and residents of "the jungle". Thousands of people from all nationalities walking singing and dancing to show that we are all human, the same and what is happening in "the jungle" is simply not right. Syrians, Afghani, Sudanese Eritrean, Ethiopian, Pakistani, Iraqi, Yemeni and more all together. It was peaceful and emotional as we also remembered those who died in the last year. This picture shows the moment the Syrians marched over from their side of the camp and joined the rest of the group for the March. An extremely emotional moment for which brought a tear to my eye. From food to shoes, tents and tarpaulin to clothing. We often see queues of people waiting and hoping to be lucky enough to get some supplies that will hold them in good stead for the winter. Still hard to believe that this is happening in Calais however we are working extremely hard to improve these systems and work with the communities to ensure that we are working effectively and do not have a negative impact. You would be surprised how sturdy and water tight some of these structures are. They struggle against the flooding of the land surrounding then and often have to move to a different location. My Sudanese brother| Sometimes we play cards sometimes we drink coffee. Often I lose when we play dominoes but every time I leave "the jungle" I wonder if he will be there when I return. I meet a lot of refugees when I am on the ground and due to the nature of the situation sometimes I return only to find out that they have either moved on back towards Germany or if lucky made it to England. Iv nicknamed him Kolo as he reminds me of Kolo Toure 👊🏽

Multiple trips to the nearby water pump to collect water for the day. Believe it or not this is happening on our very doorstep in Calais, France. There are about 5 or 6 of these points in the jungle to service a population of over 3000 people. The work we do at Calaid and the @theworldwidetribe looks to try and improve conditions in the jungle. Global support has been great and we will continue to work to make these conditions better. The boys. Met these guys on the way back from the Jules Ferry centre. Life in the jungle is a constant battle but one things for sure, people really do stick together and pull through. Iv seen refugees take there battered shoes off and give them to someone who needed them more due to injury. They get one meal a day and often pool their food together and share between them. "There is no me but us, we are all brothers here"

Madrid really pleasantly surprised me. The architecture is unreal and the energy of the city really does pour out onto the streets 24/7. The food needs no commenting, and the suburbs had their own individualistic vibe. Definitely a city I could live in and I think it might even pip Barcelona.
