The monster growls at you, seemingly suspicious and aggressive. Behind one of its legs hides a young boy who peers out carefully.
You'd better proceed carefully.
"Oh... Hullo," the greeting comes from a boy of somewhere between ten and thirteen. His clothes are too big for him and kind of raggedy. He seems surprised to find someone outside his barrel.
"What? I ain't hurtin' nothin..." what now? More folk to antagonize him?
There appears to be a raggedy young boy asleep on a porch.
The boy and his very loved monstie!
Haven't seen hide or feather of Kulu Yu Ku in MHS3 so far... Don't make Huck go without his main boy Percy!
There are partners I miss... some I wish I could apologize to... but that boat sailed.
I will leave them be, of course. It was my own fault and I acknowledge that. I mis-stepped, I pushed a little too hard and have no one to blame but myself.
For what it's worth, if they ever come back here... I will just say: I am so sorry.
Does anyone else kinda wish the mhs games had a little more focus on conflict between hunters and riders?
Like... sure, 1 and 2 touch on it but it's super brief. In 1 you resolve it by just doing a couple missions, in 2 it had a little at the beginning but then devolved into half-baked cult nonsense so that went nowhere...
It's just kind of annoying that there's real and easy to imagine conflict right there, just from different ideologies/beliefs on monsters and they just... barely touch it, ever?

“I feel as if I have lived a long, long time”
“I don't believe you know how much I will miss you”
“Do you love [name] more than anything else in all the whole world?”
“No one else is quite as solemn as you are.”
“I promised him I would bear it, and I will.”
“I will stay with you.”
“Are you learning me by heart?”
“I could stay here until morning if I wanted to.”
“I see her when she does not see me.”
“I am very hungry, and I am much obliged to you for your kindness; and there is a child outside who is hungrier than I am.”
“You were tired; you could not help but fall asleep.”
“I thought—perhaps—you didn't want to talk to me. So I tried to keep out of your way.”
“I was driven mad with dread and horror. I had not slept for weeks.”
“What are you thinking of? Why do you look at me like that?”
“He died delirious, raving about his little girl—”
“We are both old enough to know better.”
“I love [name] more than all the world ten times over. That is what my pain is. He has gone away.”
“Would you like to hear the rest of the story?”
“This is not an ordinary occasion, and I do not desire that it should be treated as one.”
“Come and sit in the window-seat with me, and I 'll whisper a story to you.”
“You have the nicest eyes I ever saw.”
“The door is locked — I want to be quite by myself, if you please.”
“Thank you for coming to my party”
“Why, we are just the same— It 's just an accident that I am not you, and you are not me!”
“I dare say you could live without me, [name]; but I couldn't live without you.”
“I already know you by heart. You are inside my heart.”
“I have been robbed and cheated!”
“You—you are not to go in there.”
“You may do anything you like to do, princess.”
“I know what it is to be hungry, and it is very hard when one cannot even pretend it away.”
“I was thinking that you did not know what you were doing.”
“I was afraid you would be frightened”
“How dare you! Come out immediately!”
“Whatever comes cannot alter one thing: if I am a princess in rags and tatters, I can be a princess inside.”
“You are a kind, kind little darling thing.”
“There's nothing so strong as rage, except what makes you hold it in—that 's stronger.”
“It 's a lonely place, sometimes it 's the loneliest place in the world.”
“And she is mine, not yours.”
“I am not responsible for her, and I refuse to be made responsible!”
“I am growing quite fond of him.”
“Perhaps kind thoughts reach people somehow, even through windows and doors and walls.”
“If I do not remind myself of the things I have learned, perhaps I may forget them.”
“I shall pretend, and it will be a great comfort.”
“I know I shall be in trouble—if I 'm found out. But I don't care—I don't care one bit.”
“It was a cold afternoon, [name]. And it 's a cold night.”
“No, no... try to be calm”
“I forgot you didn't know... it was the day the dream came true.”
“I'm sure that I remember you, miss... and yet—”
“Come when you are hungry, and I'll give you odd jobs to do, if you're willing.”
“I want to thank you for being so kind to me—so heavenly kind—and making everything like a fairy story”
“I sleep in the attic. I run errands for the cook—I do anything she tells me; and I teach the little ones their lessons.”
“Get your coverlet and wrap it round you, and I 'll get mine, and we will huddle close together on the bed, we'll be warmer.”
“You are to sleep in the attic.”
“I don't know who, but somebody cares for me a little. I have a friend.”
“I must find her. If she is alive, she is somewhere.”
“He trusted me—he loved me. And he died thinking I had ruined him.”
“Oh, I never had such a dream before.”
“You don't know how glad I am that you are found.”
“She does not like me; though perhaps it is my fault, because I do not like her.”
“She did not wish that you should go to sleep unhappy.”
“I am so glad it was you who was my friend!”
“I don't know your part of the story yet, and it must be beautiful.”

There appears to be a raggedy young boy asleep on a porch.
"Yeah, me neither! All th'adults I ran into freaked out over me, and I don't really know why; I don't look scary or anything, do I...?"
It probably had something to do with the fact that he was a bipedal hedgehog covered in vibrant blue fur.
"I mean... Y'mighty diff'rent from what I'm used to, but I'm strange too so I ain't one t'judge."
It wasn't like he was considered normal or even a good influence by the adults around here so, really, he could take the sight of this quite easily.

"I don't understand adults much anyway..." they seemed to make things more difficult than they ought to be.
