Every hero needs a cover job. The Strongholds have real estate, but when Warren finally graduated and became Vulcan he needed a day job. Something that would still allow him to help people even when he didn’t get a call on one of those special cell phones. So, when it came time to choose what he would do, he unironically chose to become a firefighter. He wouldn’t be able to actively use his pyrokinetic abilities to put out the flames, but he is still able to do a lot to help save people from burning building in more subtle ways.
