Anyway... So... for the first few episodes, I was almost losing interest, cuz, like- the reason I went on to watch The Nightly Manor was because I heard the song "Be A Friend To Me" somewhere and from that song alone, it had me wondering what the show was about, so today, I gathered the courage to watch it. Bro-... At the beginning, the random pairings had no backstory that we, as viewers knew about, but Allenimations knew exactly where they were going with this. I reached episode 4, wasn't enough to make me cry, but it ended pretty sweet! Top Hat getting along with Sketchpad was the last thing I was expecting just from watching the previous episodes, they got off on the wrong foot when Sketchpad decided to speak his mind, but with the little talk that Top Hat had with GPS in his vision, Top Hat went over and talked things out with Sketchpad, and everything was okay! I mean, the last thing they both expected was to start living with each other after that point, but I'm glad they didn't stay sour with each other for too long! They both lost someone close to them, so they understood how the other feels very well! Now they help each other move on, because that's what GPS and Speaker would want. Then you realize, that while those two got the closure they needed, Spray Paint didn't get this sort of closure... Speaking of which, in episode 5, they cover his past with Mouse (which is where they play the song I mentioned earlier). The thing is... while Mouse died, Spray Paint ended up at the hospital. Sure, we see that Speech Bubble left him flowers, but he didn't get any closure, like- at all! We don't get to see if he'll ever recover from the loss, and he's also hanging on by a thread in the hospital, but since The Nightly Manor is over, we still don't know how things REALLY end for him. His final scene at the hospital, along with the song, nearly made me cry...
And then, there's what was the final nail in the coffin for me, episode 6. Up until this point, there were things that nearly made me cry, but how they ended it all off was what really got me. In this final episode, we get a look into GPS' head, what was going on during the time that he "went crazy", I'll skip most of this part, but here we meet two characters, Codey and Binary, who are a virus, they were meant to be one, but were split into two instead, Binary doesn't really care about anything, but Codey spends some time with GPS and starts seeing flaws in what they were doing, turning on Binary to aid GPS, but Binary presses a button to self-destruct, which ends Codey, Binary and GPS all at once. But before GPS ceases to be, he gets to relive one of his happiest memories with Top Hat. It was a prom scene, very simple, but with how things had gone down up until that point?.. yep, it broke me :[
Regardless of how it ended, The Nightly Manor is really good! The first episodes are a little weak, but the look we get into the characters arcs later on more than makes up for it! It takes a path that reminds me of hfjONE a little bit, where the object show format is significantly different from what we usually see. So... yeah! I liked it :3
