The scientist and inventor Nikola Tesla and Richmond P. Hobson, a US Navy hero and later a Congressman, maintained a very close, long-lived friendship that has led to modern speculation about the nature of their relationship. While they were not public lovers, historical accounts show deep affection and frequent meetings, with some interpretations suggesting a potential romantic, albeit private, connection. Hobson famously wrote to Tesla, asking him to come over for a "tête-à-tête" and noting that he felt he "had not seen half enough" of him, sometimes keeping them together until well past midnight. In 1905 Hobson would marry with Tesla as his best man. After the marriage two continued to meet regularly. While Tesla frequently stated that he was celibate and that intimacy would interfere with his scientific work, he often formed intense, often romanticized friendships with athletic, intellectual or charismatic men. Tesla described Hobson as living in "one of the deepest chambers in my heart" and in a later greeting sent to Hobson's daughter, he would sign himself “Nikola Hobson”.
I'm engaged in a collaborative project to correct the queer revisionists rewriting the history of homosexual men and women. To be a homosexual at that time was considered a criminal act. To get around these despicable laws, gay men and women had 'Lavender marriages.' Those were marriages in which one or both were gay. And the same-sex lovers would discreetly continue. And for the wife, it offered substantial financial security.
In North Africa in 203 CE, two young women, Felicity and Perpetua, were martyred side-by-side. Both had left conventional, patriarchal family structures to seek a chosen family among the nascent Christian community. They have gone on to become known as the patron saints of same-sex couples, and serve as a source of inspiration for queer Christians, especially queer women of colour.

Irezumi (ink and watercolor on paper) by Tsuyoshi Yoshida, known as Go Mishima, created sometime between 1924 and 1988 — a study where the body becomes both surface and story, rendered with the quiet intensity that defines Mishima’s vision.
