hello there! strangers can call me cyrus, i’m 24, and i’m in the pacific timezone. i’m a full - time student in a four year university working towards my bfa so my activity will be fairly sporadic. my usual formatting is double spacing and small text with color used for dialogue. this simply makes it easier for me to read. however, i will more than likely copy your formatting style when we write together if i don’t know you’re fine with that formatting.

Prowl almost laughs at the comment on Verity. He doesn't, though- nothing about the matter was funny. The tactician worries at his bottom lip, and minimizes his reaction to a small, mirthless smile. "You could say that, yes. Stowaway'd on Magnus' ship. Went to Garrus-9 and came back in one piece. Reckless and foolhardy- she's changed very little. We had... a bit of a run-in after that." He pauses, stewing in the silence. Not good. With thoughts of the humans- Hunter's death, Verity's involvement, Jimmy's fallout- came thoughts of Earth. The Ark-19, sitting at the bottom of a lake. The vague memory of Ratchet, hunched over an operating table. After a long moment, Prowl continues; "Do you think of them often?"

⟫ Sounds just like Verity, that's for sure. Not one to sit around, always quick to jump into action. He likes to think she represents the best of humanity, even if she had a rough start of it. So resilient and compassionate. Ratchet wonders if Prowl feels similarly. Though from the way he talks about Earth, it seems like his opinion on the planet and its inhabitants aren't the best. (He heard about Spike. And he remembers when the humans treated them like nothing but tools to use. What they did to Sunstreaker. To Hunter. Everything else...)

Ratchet rubs the back of his neck. Earth changed him too, whether he fully realizes it or not. "All the time," he admits, voice quieter than usual, "I miss 'em. A lot. But... I involved them in our war, and I can't forgive myself of that fact. They need to live their lives. That's why I haven't... I meddled too much as is. I know, I know; a decade too late in realizing I should've stuck to protocol."

he knows it's useless to argue ; the field medic is as stubborn as they come, as bad as drift himself sometimes. there's no way to dissuade ratchet from accompanying him, even though he knows it's likely unsafe ... he'd hate to see anything happen to the mech that gave him a second chance at life. but he is also very aware that the other autobot can more than hold his own against a foe. ratchet is pretty strong in his own right, & he is correct about drift being more successful with some form of backup ... & about the presence of others who may need a medic's assistance.

" ... okay. just—— stay behind me, i don't want you to get hurt. "

stupid mech, don't wear your spark on your shoulder faring. you're a patient, not a friend ! a coworker at best, a pain in the aft at worst. a spiritualist & staunch atheist cannot get along off of the battlefield, right?

drift distracts himself by swiveling his finials to test the air again, helm canting to put one finial higher than the other so he can more easily pick through the different frequencies & also keep an audial behind him on ratchet. something is moving up ahead, a few kliks due northwest, & it's big. precisely how big, he can't really tell from here, especially with the atmospheric interference & foreign aura ; either way, he begins taking cautious steps forward to clear the rocky formations that they'd been using as temporary cover.

" something's out there, maybe whatever did this to autoclave, " he offers over his shoulder as he draws one of his swords. " it doesn't have an aura like ours, so it's either a mechanimal of some sort ... or it isn't cybertronian at all. there might be some of our crew up there too, but i can't be sure ... primus be with us & protect us. "

⟫ whatever hangups drift is experiencing, ratchet is completely unaware of them. his mind is focused on the situation at hand more than anything else. that's part of his job. anything external, anything personal — that gets left at the door the moment his hands are needed.

he rolls his eyes a little at drift's overprotective nature, exasperated if only because it's certainly not the first time he's been in harm's way and it certainly won't be the last. he's seen the worst of the worst when he was still on the front lines, especially the tail end of the war when he was stationed on earth. a few blaster burns or torn-open armor won't offline him. he's made of sterner stuff than that.

"autoclave blew up from the inside out, i can tell you that much. some sort of experimental weaponry maybe? or the beast can blow up energon itself with its mind," the last part was a long stretch, but he's claimed stranger things in the past and was proven correct time and again. (mentally he bets perceptor 10 shanix since the scientist's scolding seems to be his lucky ticket.)

"i couldn't see anything when autoclave imploded. had my hands full." he follows close behind drift, though not as carefully. his steps are heavier and louder by a significant amount. "if it is what got autoclave, we'll have to catch up to it fast." he doesn't like to imagine how many will die if whatever it is drift's picking up is what caused such a gruesome death.

"You haven't reached out to her while on Earth?" Prowl frowns. He could expect such an avoidance from the others- Ironhide, Sunstreaker, Wheeljack- but Ratchet avoiding confrontation? The tactician digests the thought. In his mind, maybe in the back of his head, he'd always assumed the medic had at least touched base upon his- what was it? Retirement? Well, Prowl thinks, in a polite internal voice, first contact and last contact are different things. "If I didn't know better, I'd ask if anything happened between you two. I'm assuming Jimmy hasn't said anything either?"

⟫ He decides against telling Prowl the reason he didn't reach out. He doubts he'd care for his reasoning anyways. He was the one who dragged them into the war. (Hunter is gone because of him. Such a bright young light snuffed out.) He's been laying low, even among other Cybertronians on Earth.

"Yes and no. After Hunter... Jimmy didn't have that resolve and fire Verity had. Far as I know he went back to autorepairs in a small town." The message was loud and clear. Stay out of my life. Ratchet is quiet for a moment. "Heard Verity got involved in that Wrecker nonsense from Perceptor."

...What's the worst injury you've ever seen?

⟫ "I've seen some pretty awful slag in my day. Decepticons got real creative with that stuff when they really wanted to at the height of the war. Some especially cruel Wreckers too, not saying the Autobots were squeaky-clean. Heh. Guess one of the worst I like to tell people who ask this kinda thing is a mech's head got smashed down so hard his brain module ended up in his spark chamber. Or the bot who kept tearing apart their own body. Think they tried eating their own spark while at it...

Treating the Lost Light's crew when they got sparkeater-ified was pretty gruesome too. You know all those tentacles they got sticking out? A lot don't really think too hard about it, but those weren't TENTACLES. They were INTERNAL ENERGON LINES, completely externalized. If you're organic, think about it like this: imagine if all your veins and arteries were pulled out of your body and you were still alive. I know for a fact all of them were in abject AGONY the entire time.

Really I could go on. Being a field medic you see these kinds of things— not growing desensitized and offering patients compassion can get difficult if you're not careful enough."
