i know she says it explicitly in the epilogue but the way this whole situation was described as self-harm... a result of bone-deep boredom, feeling dehumanized.. it's scary but also so common. blowing up your life in defiance or rage or because you don't see a way out anymore. hurting yourself and others in the process. the control and lack of it intertwined. i was a caged animal, i was deeply bored, they took out my teeth, so i destroyed my life to escape! you are so bored you feel nothing and you're going to blow up your life to feel SOMETHING. ahhhhh
