Did you just stumble on this post and have no idea what Project LUMEN is about? Fear not, there is more information under the cut!
Project LUMEN is a fan indie game currently in the developmental stage. Its goal is to bring the Life Series to life in a different medium, for fans to experience it in a brand new way. Our game will be a RPG of sorts with a world to explore, battle mechanics, interaction with NPCs, different choices to make and our own unique spin on Watcher Lore. It will have changing art styles and multiple endings.
If you'd like to learn more, give our blog a look, and if you’re still curious or have a question, feel free to reach out via our ask box :D
And at last, I'm here to tell you a little bit more about what a job as a programmer on Project Lumen entails! This time around, we're looking for a small team of 2-5 people to help out our wonderful Pie.
What will coders do?
The base of the game is coming along, but we need someone to help with certain mechanics and expand upon what's already been done! You might not always be coding, though- sometimes work will include needing to research or plan out certain mechanics before programming can be done.
Some examples of what you might help with :
Setting up quests for the player
Creating smaller minigames like fishing, crafting, petting Jellie, etc.
Expanding upon the walkable game world to make it more interactive and fun
Polish up existing systems
In all cases, you will be working alongside our current programming, Pie, as a team! Because of this, you will also need a GitHub account (or need to make one), so we can have version control and easily share code.
What are the requirements for applying?
You must be at least 13 years old
You must have some experience in programming. Preferably in the Godot game engine, but experience in python is also good as that's the closest programming language to the script Godot uses. Having worked on game projects is also recommended.
You must have access to Discord, as this is where team communication takes place
You must be communicative and able to commit to the workload
You must be able to use the Godot game engine on your desktop/device. (The game engine is free, and doesn't take much disk room at all)
You must be able to use GitHub for version control. (If you have little experience with it, we can help you set it up!)
What's the expected workload?
Depending on what you're working on, we hope you would put some time in every week or two to code. We currently have a goal to get our demo out sometime during the middle to late part of the year, so actively working towards a playable demo will be prioritised in your work.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read through all of this! The applications will open on March 30th!!! Got any questions? Feel free to send us an ask :D
Ok so I just finished playing Dispatch and I freaking LOVED it! Sooooo I thought it would be fun to combine my two current hyperfixations and make a Hermitcraft Dispatch AU!
Quick overview for those who have never played Dispatch:
In this AU Impulse works as a superhero dispatcher, someone who analyzes a team’s strengths and weaknesses and answers distress calls by the sending the hero most suited to the job. However, he’s been assigned to the Hermit Program, a team of former villains trying to become heroes. To say the least, it’s like trying to herd cats and the office and comm lines are always in chaos when the Hermits show up to work.
More hermits bios incoming to fill out the team roster! :D
If you are wondering where I have been, here's a little update for you. I have a very intense job during spring/summer/autumn that takes a lot of energy out of me, so writing has been slow. But! More importantly, I have joined Projet LUMEN.
If you are a Life Series fan and you don't know what that project is about, you should definitely check the blog out, but in a nutshell, it's a video game retelling of Third Life. It takes a lot of my spare time (and is going to be amazing. We just finished the first revision of the script and it's uergiezh).
Does that mean I have stopped working on the Canary of the Black Mines? No. In fact, I will do my best to post a new chapter before the end of Febuary. I just don't know if I should focus on the next part of Jimmy's journey or if now is the time for a Tango interlude. But, work is happening. I promise.
I wish you a happy New Year 2026. May this year be full of stories and Decked Out.
An attempt at a design for DO3 Tango. I was having troubles and thought another character would help work out an idea, so dungeon guide Jimmy is back also. Also couldn't help but add a reference to my favourite vampire wannabe, gankutsuou's count of monte cristo. Fits Tango well.
I am a PASSIONATE commenter on fanfiction, but sometimes it slows down my reading because I don't want to read if I don't have the mental energy to leave the long comments I want to
Still, as an author, I know even a short note can mean the world.
So, I put together a little guide with different “levels” of comments, so it’s easier to leave something without overthinking!
(That was me, not anyone else — strange, isn’t it? Yet I feel myself wanting your thanks.)
“I just saved your life.”
(Yes, I fought my nature, but not that much. A small deed. Don’t punish me.)
“I just saved your life.”
(There’s a red poison in my heart but I fought it for you. Do you understand? I saved you. I shouldn’t have.)
“I just saved your life.”
(Don’t you see? I can still be your ally, despite the red. We can still be friends. Nothing has to change.)
“I just saved your life.”
(Life, the one thing I don’t have. I could have taken it from you and we would have been equal again, but I didn’t, because I know how precious it is.)
“I just saved your life.”
(Nothing has to change. Do you understand what I’ve done for you?)
“I just saved your life.”
(You have gone against your very nature. This will not go unpunished.)
Update on The Canary of the Black Mines - Chapter 15
I wasn't expecting to give this update. The chapter is done.
Granted, I didn't write it from scratch because I cut what I had in two. But you guys have no idea how hard the end of this was. And I just... finished it today. Out of the blue. I'll be proofreading for sure, but it's going to be posted soon.
Current word count: 4,9 words.
Here's a little spoilery preview out of context under the cut (It might be my favourite quote of this whole fic.)
Hi guys! It's been a while. May I offer you a bit more of the Stardew Rancher AU? Etho's 2 hearts event has been requested by the wonderful @seafoamwaffle. Please don't hesitate to ask about characters, heart events, quests or festivals!
Writing's under the cut. Enjoy :D
>> Part One | Next Part
Walking towards the mountain feels… different, somehow, today. Jimmy is shaken by some kind of shiver. He puts it on to the heavy rain and the anticipation. Finally, the conditions are met for him to catch the legendary fish Martyn been teasing him about.
He’s half convinced Martyn is just making stuff up. But he’s also been in the valley long enough to believe that weird fish exist. Joel has mentioned that in passing. And he’s determined to get better at finish and impress both of those fools.
He walks decidedly on the long plank to reach the little island in the middle of the lake and stops in his tracks when he sees a black blob on it.
“Etho?”
The blob slightly turns towards him and sure enough, it’s the hermit of the mountain.
Etho is wearing a big black rain coat, his face us half covered as usual, but he’s holding a fishing rod. Jimmy didn’t peg him as the type for that, but he guesses that when you live in a valley like this, it’s a perfectly common pastime.
Etho looks at him from head to toe, and Jimmy stops breathing. Everyone always behaves like Etho is a celebrity, like they want his approval. Jimmy doesn’t get it, but here, under the watch of that one intense black eye, he feels very naked.
But Etho nods, and Jimmy feels like he’s presence is allowed now.
“Can I fish next to you?” he asks still. He just gets a customary hum in return but the atmosphere is light and fresh in the rain.
Jimmy cast his line and waits.
He’s never been great with silence, though, so after the second catch, he says, “All of those are great, but I’m going for a special fish.”
Etho turns slightly his head towards him but doesn’t say anything. That means he’s listening, right?
Jimmy licks the rains off his lips and continues,“ It’s one of a kind or something, and supposedly it lives around that log. You can only catch it when it rains like this.”
“The Legend Fish,” Etho says.
Jimmy chuckles. “Yeah, Martyn says that. I don’t even know what kind of fish it is.”
Maybe it’s stupid of him to be there, catching a fish he doesn’t even know. He hadn’t known about many fish and their property before catching them. If that stopped him, he wouldn’t have gotten so far.
“No, that’s its name,” the hermit says, cutting his throughs, casting his line again after catching a carp. “Legend. The king of all fish. People of the village have been trying to catch it in each generation.”
This makes Jimmy gasp. “Oh, so it’s been seen before?”
He can’t be sure of it in the rain, but Etho’s visible eye curves like a sideways crescent,
almost like he’s smiling or amused. “That’s how the story stays alive.”
“Are you also here for it?”
“Maybe,” Etho says, cryptically.
The silence falls back after that. There’s this giddy feeling every time either one of them is riling up a catch. It’s a good way to spend the day.
At some point, after getting a particularly fiesty largemouth bass, Etho takes a water bottle out of his coat and takes a long sip.
“Want some?” he asks Jimmy.
The new farmer nods, realising just now how long it’s been since he’s had some water and how thirsty he is. He takes the handed bottle, the clear liquid swaying gently at the motion, and brings it to his mouth–
– only for the drink to burn his throat.
The surprise makes him spit the rest of his mouthful out like a water mister.
“Is that vodka?!” he all but squeals.
“Keeps you warm in days like these,” Etho shrugs, like he doesn’t understand Jimmy’s outrage. “Is that your first time drinking alcohol or something?”
Jimmy sputters, his face getting red with the shame of being treated as a little kid. Then he thinks that Etho must see this and assume it’s the alcohol going to his head and he’s even more embarrassed–
“IT’S NOT! I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS WATER!”
“Sure, sure,” Etho says, goodheartedly.
No matter how much Jimmy protests, that just earns him amused hums and chuckles. He just goes back to fishing. But for the corner of his field of vision, he still sees how Etho seems a bit more relaxed (which is weird, because Etho always seems boneless, but somehow it’s true), how his eyes are crescent-shaped like he’s smiling, how the air, despite the rain, feels lighter.
They cast their lines in companionable silence. Jimmy is still nervous, standing next to this enigma of a man, but now, he’s a bit more settled.
“Oh gosh!” Jimmy exclaims when his line starts pulling with a strength he’s never felt before from a fish. He reals it back but the catch is feisty.
“It’s a strong one,” Etho comments. “Good luck.”
It feels like an eternity of pushing and pulling before Jimmy’s catch finally briech the water’s frontier.
The fish is big, green and rounder than it should be. It looks like a largemouthbass on steroide.
“The King of all fish,” Etho breathes out. “You caught him.”
“I caught him,” Jimmy repeats, and he stares at the fish, not really getting it.
There’s a moment where the world stills around him. He almost feels like even the water is pausing.
“I caught him!!” he exclaims, when he finally processes it. “I caught a legendary fish!”
“The Legend,” Etho adds. “Congratulations.”
Jimmy’s breath catches in his throat at the praise. His heart is singing in his chest. He finally understands a bit more what the other villagers always seem to be so eager to have Etho’s opinion and, especially, his approval. It’s a wonderful feeling.
“You– I—, Oh, I need to show Joel, he’ll never believe it!”
Jimmy carefully wraps the fish and puts it in his icebox. Then he turns around to see Etho getting up, stretching like a cat, and starting to tidy his things.
“Are you leaving?” he asks, and he hates how he sounds like a disappointed child.
“You’ve caught the fish I was going for and I have plenty of regular ones for home.”
“Oh. Sorry.”
Etho turns toward him and stares at him for a long second. “Don’t apologise. You’ve done well. I can see your skills. And don’t worry about me, I’ll catch the next legendary fish faster than you.”
Jimmy swallows. His throat feels a little too dry. “Is that a challenge?”
helloooo i just found The Canary of the Black Mines a few days ago and i love it so much, you convey everyone's emotions so well, i can feel their pain (sometimes physically!)
anyway yeah i just wanted to let you know that i absolutely love the story and everything about it, i'm excited to see more :D (i don't mean this in a pressure way btw, take your time with it of course :>)
Hey. Sorry I've taken so long to answer this. You have no idea what this little message means to me. Writing has been slow the last few months because I was in an intense season at work and I'm now part of Projet Lumen (if you don't know about it, check it out!) but I'll try to get a chapter out soon! I was stuck on a very important dialogue for the longest time, but I'm getting through! :D
It’s just a simple superhero/villain AU with an healthy amount of angst thrown in for good health
World building
It is forbidden for a hybrid or non-human to use their powers/“advantages” ; it is , however , technically not illegal. But for a hybrid to gain the same amount of “privileges” as humans they have to give up their hybrid side; for avians that is their wings.
The capital is riddled with crime and although the government’s police force can handle the minor leagues of criminals, to a certain degree, they cannot handle criminals of non-human descent. So they started to hire hybrids and other creatures to fight off the increased hybrid crimes. These individuals gain “human privileges” without having to give up their hybrid side. They are however technically owned by the government.
Tango/Inferno
Tango is a blaze hybrid who throughout his life was always treated as dangerous because of his fire powers. When he turned 18 he decided to apply to the government to become a hero- to disprove the stereotype that nether born individuals are inherently dangerous. He is close friends with his colleagues: Impulse (Imp) and Skizz (Angel).
Jimmy/Cannary
Jimmy is an Avian (duh) and has refused to get his wings removed- and is reaping the consequences for it as he is finding it hard to get a job. He works at his brother's architecture company as the receptionist/assistant. He and his brothers, Joel and Grian, fight against the government's laws regarding hybrids but their reputation has been tarnished by the Government to make them look like villains. In costume he uses a feather dye to conceal his identity.
