There are dozens of varieties of bananas grown throughout the tropical regions of the world; this one has the most brightly colored blossom I've ever seen. Many types of bananas are picked green and boiled as a starch in place of potatoes or yams; in some of the Caribbean they make banana salad in place of potato salad using mayonnaise. The central highlands of Colombia is a cloud forest environment; they grow some of the finest coffee in the world, but it also offers one of the most diverse ecosystems. Every type of tropical plant that likes moist conditions will thrive here.
