Smitty made his way over to John, who was busy running his hands along a good-condition sheep's wool jacket.

"You like it?" Smitty asked with a smile. John responded with a nod, fidgeting with the wool on the collar. "Keep it, it's yours. I won't tell nobody."

John whipped his head to look at Smitty with surprise. "Really? You won't tell Tyler?"

"Nah. Not like he'd care anyway, it's just a jacket. Harder to sell clothes than it is jewelry," he explained as he began looking through the rings and necklaces that were strewn across the dresser beside them. Among them was a nice silver ring with a turquoise stone and another simple gold band. Smitty pocketed the turquoise ring but held the gold ring up for John to see, smiling as he watched John take notice. "You should take this one home. You know, to replace the one you had to give up."

John narrowed his eyes at the ring before looking at Smitty strangely. "I don't wear gold," he said after a thoughtful pause.

Smitty looked down at his hands as they gripped the sleeve of his new jacket and hummed as he realized that all of his rings were silver. "Ah shit, you're right." He then looked around and made a sound of victory upon finding a silver-chain necklace. It was simple and didn't have anything special about it, which seemed good enough in a panic. Smitty set the gold ring back on the dresser and replaced it with the necklace instead, holding it out with an apologetic smile. "How about this?"

Wearing an amused grin with a cocked eyebrow, John huffed a laugh through his nose and accepted the necklace. He quickly clasped it around his neck and admired it atop his fingers, looking satisfied. It was a bit short and dainty, but John didn't seem to care, as he smiled when he looked back up to Smitty.

"Thanks," he said simply, but Smitty knew he meant it genuinely. He returned the smile and gave him a pat on the shoulder before finding more jewelry to sell.

John eventually walked off to look around the room on his own, and Smitty made his finishing choices in their final moments in the house. Whoever the poor bastard was that reinforced this room was a smart guy, but not smart enough.

Though as Smitty sifted through the remaining jewelry, he for some reason could not find the gold band that John had refused. There were other gold bands among the pile, but not the one he'd pulled. Strange, it must have fallen off at some point. He was being pretty careless with it all… oh well, it probably wouldn't have sold for much anyway. Smitty pocketed two of the other gold bands and made his way for the door to wait for the others.

#hell yeah gonna reread chapter 6 cause my brain will probably struggle between actual chapter 6 and the separate chapter
