fyi there ARE therapists out there you can talk to about being in the alterhuman community. i'm not saying it's common. i just know from personal experience that there is someone out there who will welcome you with open arms, a healthcare professional who genuinely wants to know you - to help you.
if a therapist rolls their eyes and brushes you off, keep fighting. you deserve better.

Anyone else get phantom legs? laying down in a certain position triggers mine.
( Sometimes i feel canine legs instead of human ones. I only started getting phantom legs early last year, but had ears since I was a kid. )
Back when I was a canine, one time after EMDR therapy I had such a huge shift that I stood up and immediately fell back into my seat because I didn't realise my body had two legs, and I thought it had four. I had really intense phantom legs.
I also had a centaur flicker once where I had very intense phantom legs/body, from the horse part of my body. So intense I actually couldn't walk normally, I had to account for my horse part.

When I was traumatised, I made the decision to reject humanity, to reject the people who hurt me, to reclaim the dehumanisation I faced and become nonhuman. I chose to be nonhuman. It was unintentional at first, but eventually it became an active choice.
Every part of my nonhumanity was a way to cope with this pain- the pain of rejection from humanity. I was a wolf to be strong and protect myself from attackers, I was a puppy to have a space to be happy and free, I was an angel to be something important, to have a purpose, I was even azula for a while, to allow myself feel anger at my treatment, advocate for myself, and protect myself with fire.
But now? I'm safe. I've had EMDR, I don't get triggered anymore, and I don't need to be protected in the same way.
So I chose to be human again. That choice is mine, and mine alone, and I choose to look at the people telling me I'm not human, and say "fuck you. Yes I am".
I've chosen to be human again, in the face of people who tried to say I didn't deserve to be one. And no one can take that choice away from me.
I am immensely glad that altherhuman-ness and otherkinity were able to provide you a safe space when you needed one <3
I'm also so glad that you've begun to heal! You should be proud, Healing is one of the most difficult things to do out there.

To be honest I also still somewhat consider myself alterhuman, in the definition of 'alternative experience of humanity', because actively deciding to be a human certainly isn't the normal experience of humanity, plus my time as a nonhuman still means a lot to me, despite now being human again.

im a rescue dog gf. i have every single health issue yet i can devour garbage without feeling anything. you have no idea what happened in my past and neither do i. no one knows where i came from all you know is i am not leaving whether you like it or not
Okay I'm absolutely exhausted so sorry if this doesn't make sense but I have a question for people with trauma-based identities who've gone through therapy, especially trauma therapies like EMDR.
So my canine identity is trauma based, and it's heavily influenced by my rejection from society and peers as an autistic person. I used to have frequent shifts, and it was an important part of my identity to me. When I was having EMDR, I also discovered a wolf side of me that I visited in my mind, and it protected me in trauma memories, and upsetting events in real-time. (For extra context, I was having weekly EMDR for 6 months to deal with childhood trauma).
Since finishing EMDR however, I've had far less of a connection to that canine part of myself. I very rarely have shifts, I don't consider myself as canine, and that wolf in my safe space doesn't appear as much. I've dealt with and processed the trauma that made me canine, so I don't feel anywhere near as strongly canine any more.
Has this happened to anyone else?

A few days ago I made this post talking about a funny hate comment I got on a TikTok I made about being alterhuman.
Well, that video of mine has since kinda blown up?? And it has over 10k views and almost 200 (mostly hate) comments??? And I’m still getting more???
The hate doesn’t bother me much, I expected it and it’s full of the average hate alterhumans get (like calling us delusional), people laughing and/or in shock that it’s not a joke, and a small number of positive things from other alterhumans (I actually found someone from my source!)
Anyways, there was one comment though with an argument I haven’t really seen (at least not in detail) before, and it was from someone who said they used to be in the community. I asked them about it, and they gave an interesting response. Here’s the comment, with their username censored for privacy.
Some of these I can definitely see where they’re coming from and why they think that, but others are things I know aren’t true, at least not in the community as it is now. I’ve only been here for a little over a year though, so idk how it was before. And the system-terminology related stuff I don’t know much about since I’m not a system myself.
Do any systems, folks who experience delusions, or long-time community members have anything to say about this?

just because community offer you place to stay while figure out things do not mean they " groom " , and really hurt people to misuse like this . groom means to prime for abuse : " we welcome you while you choose spend time here " is really , really not that .
yes , some people will spend time in one community , and realise this wrong one . that not mean everyone there personally try hurt . long ago spend some time in asexual communities , thought belong there . in end did not , but they give place that welcome anyway . not their personal faults that framework did not apply , and not mean they evil for accept as part in community .
as for delusion , very interest in how they class this . do they mean real delusion , or do they mean icky spiritual belief ? this big , big problem on places like tiktok , where anything spiritual that not able prove " is delusion " and must erase .
even so : while think communities here become more open and accept for those with delusions , many people also try stay mindful because know delusions can put in danger . those like @strawberrybabydog try educate and help make spaces that less hurt people with delusion .
but in end , mostly if something harm - delusion or not - come to self judgement . this not something can really change … no regular community member can peer inside and decide for you if hurt . some people will still make mistakes , but we can at least lessen harm .

if remember right , species dysphoria have use in 90s , as part in otherkin writing . ( edit : realise might be mix up with another word history here , but leave this open for comment . )
phantom limbs absolutely not plural origin . in fact , some people have problem because often amputee word . note - often even doctors who learn about this use that word , as non-amputees can have phantom limb experiences too .
only ever see plurals use switch and fictive , which happen … well … because plural . not for otherkin purposes .
i second everything Shadow said! there just happens to be a lot of systems who have alterhuman headmates. singlet alterhumans have no reason to use plural terms, so they dont. singlet alterhumans using plural terminology is just a lie?
as for grooming/abuse... no, just, no. the argument of "otherkinity is/can be used as a tool to groom people" can be applied to absolutely anything, that doesnt mean [thing] is inherently part of grooming. if a predator kidnaps a child into a van with candy, is it the candy's fault or the groomer's? i have been groomed, and honestly im not okay with identities being compared to the trauma i experienced. its perfectly fine to dislike otherkinity or want to avoid it, but the evidence to say "this is all evil" is purely anecdotal. alterhumanity is just an identity, it doesnt say anything about morals or character. otherkin are not a monolith
as for delusions, my delusions have not at all been worsened by being open about my identity and seeking people who accept me. my psychotic symptoms have actually improved significantly since then - they're not treated as something dangerous/evil/unspoken/sad. theyre just treated as Another Part Of Me, respectfully. this is because my friends who accept me recognize that i am an adult who can make my own decisions, and i dont need someone else making decisions for me - conservatorships are a close reality for many psychotic people, so infantilizing and controlling behavior from others is literally sanism. speaking over psychotic people, especially on the topic of psychosis, is sanism. that behavior, which the blurred out person is displaying btw, is not present in alterhuman communities
clearly im not the only delusional person who feels this way either, because there are a LOT of delusional people in the alterhuman community. if it was that terrible for us, why would so many of us be here compared to other places? before you answer "because you've been groomed," re-read paragraph two /s
I wish every IRL/DA a very realize they can absolutely still use the label otherkin or therian if they wish to and that it's not fair that they were ever made to think they couldn't

yes! usually this would be cotard's delusion, and the official diagnosis would be delusional disorder - where the person only has delusions and no other positive psychotic symptoms
most commonly, delusional misidentification syndromes like cotard's are monothematic, meaning the person experiencing it only has 1 delusion. monothematic delusions are commonly associated with delusional disorder too, rather than schizophrenia and other psychotic or schizospec disorders
i have past kintypes. in that, kintypes ive had that WERE kintypes but no longer are.

bees were an intense kontype of mine. to the ooint where fanily associates bees with me and gets me bee-themed things. but theyre no longer my kintype.
theyre not a flickertype. they were fully my kintype; my identity was centered around bees. they were everything in me.
and nowadays? now that i know more about myself? i no longer identify with bees. if anything, bees are now a hearttype.
you can say they were a hearttype all along and i just didmt know, but honestly? it feels more accurate to say bees WERE a kintype, and just. arent anymore.
our identities are part of us, yes, but they are not immune to changing. and thats fucking beautiful.

another Species related change is i've adopted the name лапа (lapa) because it does something for my вовкулака brain. it means paw. i'll probably just use it as a stand-in for something better in the future, its just that a lot of ukrainian words are reeally long & im having a hard time finding a name that represents me while also being relatively short. лапа is not the only name im using, im using all of my names equally so idc its just Another One LOL. call me whatever :0]
