“Really? What happened?” she asked, turning to a new page in her journal.
A young man has lost his nap sack and his lunch is inside.
un-luckylin:
What?!
No need for such alarm, a young man has merely lost his nap sack, his lunch is inside so it must be found right away.
amydelagrandebouche:
Oh, no. What happened?
“A young man has lost his nap sack and thus, his lunch.” a member of his gang had owled him with this problem.
the-oldest-omalley:
Why haven’t I heard about this?
Well it isn’t exactly the sort of tragedy that I would expect would reach the ears of the deputy mayor. It’s a small, somewhat personal tragedy but a tragedy nonetheless.
thanks-for-noticingme:
W-What happened?
“A young man has lost his nap sack, we must find it immediately, his lunch is in there.” A member of the gang had come to him with this problem.

Nathan ran off quickly to find a trash can forgetting he had just learned the spell to bring it to him. “Right, and we’re best friends!” He smiled brightly handing it to him. “Are you living somewhere. Do you need help getting you there? I don’t know the castle too well, but I can help you out a bit! Oh my gosh are you going to come to a quidditch match? They are so cool to watch! Everyone is so excited and happy. We can go together sometime! It’ll be great!”
“I’ll be living at school...I don’t know which common room yet,” he admitted, “they’re still discussing things in there, my parents and the headmaster I mean.” He leaned back in his chair, “if it isn’t to cold I’ll definitely see a match or two, I don’t think it’s something I could really get into though.”

“Uhm, cleaning spell… cleaning spell…” Dory wracked her brain for a cleaning spell. She knew she knew one. She had to! They’d learned cleaning spells so long ago, so it had to be in her memory somewhere… But of course, just when she needed to remember it, it was nowhere to be found. “I… I can’t remember one right now…. I’m sorry.”
“Oh....maybe we should just,” he shook his head, “no, I should just go get a teacher...or something. I’m sorry to have troubled you, don’t worry though, you won’t get sick, what I have isn’t contagious.”

Nathan frowned. That wasn’t good. The thing that made him happy made his friend so sick. How could this happen? Nathan took a step back worried he was making his friend sick. “Are you allergic to me?” He asked shivering a little from the the cold air, half naked. “I can go if you are. How can you stand being here with all this magic? How does that work? Do you need a trash can?”
“A trash can might be great actually...” he said with an amused grin. A trash can would be mighty convenient if he was going to go on like this. “I’m not allergic to you...or at least, I’m no more allergic to you than anything else. Mostly, I’m just allergic to my own magic although, being around other magic tends to make my own magic more...active I suppose? I’m no sure even I entirely understand it, the healers sure don’t.” It was scary, hardly being able to keep food down, sometimes not being able to breath, feeling raw and itchy all the time...he had to wonder how long he would last. He had to wonder but he didn’t want to. “I’m here because...well, it’s dangerous for people who can’t control their magic to be walking about freely without training. it’s for the greater good, even if it hurts me and honestly...I more or less deserve this.” admitting the last part was hard but he found it easier to talk about now, maybe it was just Nathan, he was ridiculous and maybe that made it easier to admit how ridiculous he was to him. He just felt like he would understand, “it’s not all bad though, I’m going to school with you, right?”
i-will-just-keep-swimming:
With an exclamation equal parts surprise and disgust, Dory scooted herself away from where the sick was splashing onto the floor as quickly as she could. “Oh my gosh,” she said, looking from the floor to the boy. “Are you alright?” Thoughts of her homework were immediately replaced by concern for this boy. “Do you need to go to the hospital wing? I can take you there if you do! I’m pretty sure I can remember how to get there. Oh gosh you don’t look well at all…”
“No, no...do you...do you know a cleaning spell? I think that’s all that can really be done for this at the moment.”

Maybe twenty minutes before History of Magic started wasn’t the best time to be doing the homework that was due today, and maybe sitting against a wall of the corridor next to the History of Magic classroom with her books spread out around her wasn’t the best place to be doing the homework that was due today, but it was where Dory found herself. She had meant to do the homework earlier, she really had. But she’d gotten distracted trying to do more research on memory charms and the homework just sort of… got forgotten… until just now… when she was starting it… in the corridor… twenty minutes before class… Dory was reading through some notes, trying to find the answer to one of the questions when a voice startled her out of her study. “Oh,” she said, looking up at who had spoken. “I’m sorry, I didn’t notice you… Did you need something?”
“Yes I-” he was cut off by the worst feeling, it rushed over him like a wave, enveloping him like a wet blanket, constricting on his stomach until...”BLEGH,” he turned his head in just enough time to empty his guts on the ground next to her, “oh my word...”

Nathan wasn’t sure what had happened at first, one moment he was hugging his new best friend the next… He suddenly felt like his shirt was oddly damp, heavy, and smelled horrible. Pulling away he saw the mess. Nathan wasn’t mad of course, Chris didn’t mean to throw up of course, but he wasn’t thrilled by the mess. “It’s okay.” He said trying to comfort his friend, unsure if he was sick or if Nathan should back away more because he’d do it again. “I have more shirts, don’t worry about it. Are you sick though? If your sick I can take you to a healer.” Nathan slipped off the tie, then quickly and carefully slipped off the shirt. He couldn’t continue to wear it, not in that state. “It’s not a big deal though, I mean now I can just walk around with only half of my clothes on! Everyone is going to think I’m so cool.” He said smiling heading to the trash to throw out the shirt. Luckily the tie was fine, quickly he tied it to his head, wearing it as a headband rather than an actual tie. “Now, do you need a healer? I can take you to one! I know where they are!”
“If by cool, you mean cold, then yeah, I can see it,” he said dryly, rolling his eyes. He looked so stupid with just the tie on his head and he was experiencing such second hand embarrassment. “Anyway, thanks but...I’ve seen a lot of healers, I don’t think it would help, they’ve more or less figured out what’s wrong with me...” he said looking away and curling up in his chair. “I’m allergic to one of the materials used in the potion so now my body is intolerant to my magic,” he explained.

Nathan wasn’t surprised. Who didn’t want magic? He knew his friend had a moral dilemma with it, but he was so glad he was here now. After a moment of silence between the two, Nathan hugged his friend. He was just so happy he could share this with him. “This is going to be THE BEST!”
Christopher was somewhat shocked by the sudden contact, the shock led to anxiety and the anxiety sat in his stomach, in a matter of moments, he began to feel it. The nausea. The damned nausea. He gagged and then he threw up. On Nathan’s shirt. “Oh god...” was all he could manage. This was probably the very worst thing that could have happened at this given moment. What a horrible thing to have happen to you...he felt so awful. “I’ll buy you a new shirt.”

“Of course you can!” Mer grinned as she watched his reaction, having to restrain herself from bouncing in place. This was probably the first time in over a week she felt completely happy, without any complications attached to it. And then…that moment ended. As he collapsed, she wasn’t strong enough to keep him up and she knelt next to him, worry overwhelming everything else. “I’m sorry, what’s wrong, is there anything I can do? Should I get someone?” She shouldn’t have taken him so far away from help when she didn’t know what was going on - at least now she could use magic if necessary.
“No...” he groaned, flipping onto his back, “I just need a minute...” his breathing was heavy but the nausea and dizziness passed. It was very frustrating when your body couldn’t even fully make up its mind on what kind of sick you were, let alone how sick. “There must be a lot of magic in the air around here...” he murmured. With a sigh he clambered onto his knees. How could he be expected to learn magic if even being around magic was making him sick? “I have to put an end to this...” he muttered, getting to his feet, “somehow...”

“Absolutely. Well, I know Latin for sure and I’m almost positive about the books on philosophy, but I’m less certain as that isn’t something I’ve read myself and I haven’t taken any classes involving it. But as extensive as this library is, I’m sure it must have something.” Just then they walked into the library and she slowed her steps, turning so she could see his reaction. This was her favorite part of Hogwarts and the idea that someone else could enjoy it as much was wonderful.
His eyes widened at the sight, it truly was a fantastic library. “This is great,” he said. “Is it okay to go in?” He said, taking a pause. He wanted to explore but didn’t want to put anyone out by going. He took another step forward-
The nausea hit him.
his head, it ached.
His knees buckled beneath him and he crumpled to the floor with a thump. “Ow...” he groaned. This was humiliating and ultimately, he deserved avery second of it.

Nathan looked down confused. How had he known? Did he really give off that persona? “How’d you know?” He asked. Nathan smiled brightly, proud to apparently seep Gryffindor. “I am! The new best Gryffindor ever. isn’t it great?” He sat next to his friend. “What are you doing here? Are you here to hang out with me? I missed you so much! I know you were mad, but I’m glad we can be friends again. This is so great.” That’s when it hit Nathan though… Chris… Here… Hogwarts… “Do you… Do you have magic Chris?”
Here they were, finally at it, the confrontation that he was dying not to have. He turned away from him. “Yeah...” he said and then said nothing else. He was so ashamed of himself, after the big show he had made. “and it didn’t just come naturally,” he added, “if I’m being perfectly honest.” It wasn’t fair for him to turn this on Nathan but he needed something to make him not feel like total shit about it.

Mer really couldn’t continue to just watch him, even if he did seem to be doing better. The walk was long enough as it was. So, she looped one arm through his and leaned slightly closer, using the excuse of a passing group of students to justify it. “I’ve read all of Flora’s textbooks as well - probably more than she has, so I understand the impulse. The Librarian isn’t my favorite person, but she is knowledgeable about where all the books are considering how easy it is to get lost in there. There’s also a wonderful section of muggle authors, featuring most of the classic novels. I’ve been working my way through those for years.” She could see the library coming close to them and was glad there had been no major accidents yet.
“That sounds marvelous,” he said earnestly, “do they have any books on latin or philosophy?” he asked, unsure of whether or not she would know about that kind of thing. Christopher was willing to admit that he had some pretty specific interests without a lot of relevance to the world and the way things were. He was vaguely aware of it at first but as they moved closer to the library, he began to notice her arm linked with his. He wasn’t sure how he felt about it, whether to be annoyed or appreciative but he felt something. Maybe it was the nausea....he gagged. yep. yep it was the nausea.
