Literary Inspired Webseries Runtime Stats

Ever wanted to binge watch a webseries, but they all felt so long? YouTube doesn’t list the total runtime of a playlist anymore, but you can get a browser extension that tells you the runtime. So I’ve used this extension to catalogue how long LIWs are, so next time you want to go watch a show, you know exactly what you’re getting into.

If there’s a show I haven’t included that you’d like me to add, just let me know!

From the creators of “Twelfth Grade (or Whatever)” and “The Grey Tarmac Road”, ParaFable presents a new web series about the trials and tribulations of growing up, and also the occasional magical mishap.

Hello friends! I am very excited to finally announce a wonderful new literary webseries called The Adventures of Serena Berg, based on Cyrano de Bergerac. What’s it about, you ask?

The show tells the story of Serena Berg, a tough transgender girl who kicks ass and takes names. She makes personal video diaries for her fraternity brother, who has moved to New York. When Serena’s best friend Roxanne falls for Chris, the new guy, she begs her to set the two of them up. Serena agrees, and finds herself wooing Roxanne through Chris. As time goes on, Roxanne must determine if Chris is really the one she’s falling in love with. Meanwhile, Serena is hiding a secret of her own, one that could change everything between her and Roxanne.

This is where you lovely people come in. We need actors, crew members, extras, makeup artists, etc. If you’re in the San Jose/San Francisco Bay Area, apply to be involved! Overall box office has been proven to be healthier in years with more films actually about women. When split apart by gender, we found that average gross for women-led movies backed this up. Yet despite positive box office results, these movies are still considered niche. That’s not just bad business — it’s poor representation.

Literary Webseries Gift Exchange: SIGN UPS ARE OPEN.

 The day is finally here, the time has come, no day but today - sign-ups to the Literary Webseries Gift Exchange are now OPEN AT THIS LINK and will REMAIN OPEN until Thursday, 12th November at Noon EST. That’s just under a week away!

There are a grand total of 37 fandoms eligible for the gift exchange (full list here) and now the time has come to sign-up with your offers and requests!

How it works:

You sign-up with 2-4 requests of fandoms you would like to receive a gift (any kind of fanwork, fic, art, video, gifset, playlist, etc…) for, and also list the fandoms you would like to create a gift for. Sign-ups are open until November 12th, Noon EST.

You will be matched with someone requesting at least one of the fandoms you offered, and sent your assignment in the days following sign-ups.

You will then have until December 16th, Noon EST, to send us your completed gift - details for how to do this to follow.

Gifts will be posted on December 25th and creators will be revealed on January 1st so everyone can go shower their gift creator in thanks and praise.

Sounds pretty simple, right?

So I had a geeky kind of evening and now, for the sake of comparing how conventions of LIWs come into being and how they’ve changed over time and also for fun, there’s now playlists for:

LIW “Adventure Montage” Episodes

(Episodes which dedicate at least a chunk of themselves to a montage of exploring a place or generally a fun day/night out, often with musical accompaniment. First done in AOJE’s “Kidnapped” , but could have origins in the day out Lizzie, Darcy and Gigi had as seen over Twitter in the LBDs. The line between these and “going for a walk” or “commuting” episodes is blurry but I think it’s there)

LIW “Baking” Episodes

(Episodes which are presented as the vlogger talking their audience through them cooking something. Welcome to Sanditon had these as a regular part of the show but the first “one off” baking video in a series is AOJE’s “Happy Rainbow Baking Show”. Again, possible origins into Jane Bennet’s passion for Snickerdoodles in the LBDs and how this was taken up by some of the fandom. )

LIW “Party” Episodes

(Episodes in which something that a character describes as a party either in the video or description takes place to some degree on camera. These are separate from “Group Hang out” ,“sleepover”, “pre-party” ,“post-party” “clubbing” and “Hiding from the party” episodes, though, again, blurry lines. “Hiding from the party” and “post-party” videos are present in both the LBDs and The Nick Carraway Chronicles, and Emma Approved showed a photo area of a christmas party, but AOJE was the first to include a definitive “Party” episode.)

LIW “Internet Meme” Videos

(Episodes that include an internet meme, tag or widely played game. AOJE was the first to use “Draw my life” (Swiftly followed by A Tell Tale Vlog), NMTD was the first to use “My Boyfriend does my Makeup” and A Little Princess Vlog used the first “questions”-type tag.)

LIW “Music” Videos

(Episodes that specifically show a character on camera doing something musical, not just the use of a soundtrack. Does not have to be an original song or remotely in tune. Notes By Christine was the first LIW to use this (I’ve only included the first 3 in the playlist because there’s so much music in it)

(I don’t watch or keep up to date with every LIW (though I do my best), and some of the videos on the playlists were just found by spotting people wearing fancy clothes in thumbnails or suggestive titles in LIWs I haven’t seen, so message me if you think I’ve missed anything out or misjudged anything :) )

While Blair has been earning a following with the help of Zoe, Chad has been working hard to spread the message of B4B. He’s compiling a video of supporters from around the world for the B4B website, and that’s where you come in! If you’d like to be in the video, just film a bit of yourself voicing your support and send it to [email protected]. You can send using wetransfer, google drive, uploading unlisted to youtube and sending a link, etc. Videos can be anything from talking about your own B4B chapter (ie, what does B4B stand for to you?) or just expressing your support for Blair and the B4B mission! Bonus points if you film on location- for example, if you’re in NYC, out on the street so we can tell where you are! The goal is to show just how far B4B has spread. I know there are some international viewers so this is your time to shine! Feel free to ask any questions on this blog or stillgeekingout. I look forward to seeing your videos! Ps- try to get them in as soon as you can, I’ll update with a more specific deadline.

Asexual Awareness Week Fandom Challenge 2015

Day 1: Post about canonically asexual spectrum characters.

Sherlock Holmes (The Adventures of Jamie Watson (and Sherlock Holmes))

Okay, I write this show and I play Holmes and all that, but I think it still counts as a fandom. TAJWASH has been a very big part of my life for the past year and a half. Playing Holmes has been important to me because I finally get to portray him/her/them as asexual, which has never been done before. I long ago accepted that I won’t be seeing much of myself in media, so it’s nice to be able to contribute to what little representation asexuals have by writing and starring in this show. I’ll also note that our Irene Adler is also aroace, and in season two, we will have someone who identifies as demisexual.

when sneaky transmedia becomes too sneaky

Something that has always bothered me about transmedia in webseries is the fact that the characters just happen to start their social media accounts right as the story is starting. Obviously I understand why, but it still bothers me.

So when I started shooting BGP back in January, I thought, “what if I make Zoe’s blog now and just run it like a normal blog so it seems like she’s had it since before the show started, like an actual person would?”

When I began to advertise for the show and some interest was generated, I thought, “well, what if I follow these people who are interested, become a presence in their tumblr life, and then when the time comes if they’re still watching the show they’ll realize that it’s been a fictional character all along?” So I followed everyone who had liked/reblogged my posts about bgp in the hopes that some would follow back (and some did).

The flaw in this plan, as you might be able to guess, is that I made the blog *too* realistic, to the point where when I began to write posts about Blair and things going on in Zoe’s life, they went under the radar.

I didn’t want to come out and say “hey, this is what I did!” but I don’t know how else to tell people about Zoe’s blog so anyway, all this to say that if you’re the type of person who loves webseries transmedia, you can follow Zoe at a-to-zoe.tumblr.com and who knows, she might already be following you. (check the #personal and #blair tags if you only want to see posts related to the show)

And sorry that I couldn’t come up with a more glamorous way to do this “reveal”.
