I’ve kept a Writer’s Journal (I think) since late 2012. (Could be early 2013, but to check the date I would have to dig it out of closet. I am not up to doing that at the moment, since it is 2am.) So far there is one full, and I started the second at the beginning of 2016. These journals are pretty thick and at the time I started (though, I wish I had done sooner) I had just scratched the surface of the, now huge pit, that is the story I’ve been working on non-stop since 2010.
You would think that, after 6 years, there would be more than 1 and 1/2 journals taking up space in my closet. However, if I find myself writing in it more than my notebooks dedicated to each story, then there are....issues. So far, I’ve written in it more times in the past few weeks than any time previous.
If you have a journal as well, may I advise?
Read past entries. I found a pattern in mine tonight.
I had written the word several times in the past three weeks. Apparently, I don’t let mine wander enough. I get caught up in research, characters, story structure, etc., etc.,.
There are times when one needs to take a step back and let their mind wander. Not just for story, or away from reality.
I believe that we have a Mind’s Eye for a purpose.
I tend to forget what mine is.
It’s that feeling that usually snaps me out of it.
Unfortunately, the recovery time is unpredictable. And that’s a whole other feeling. Which usually subsides with lots of coffee and determination.
Oh...and “Eye Drops”...aka: A damn good book by a damn good author. Their words are soothing drops into your brain which keeps one from going *insane.
