#I find this amusing #but a bit ooc #as jervis I don't think would curse

“Yeah, I guess it’s easy to understand, and harder to put into practice. You’ll learn. Your family might as well be experts. It’s gotta be in the genetics.” Look at Derek. He fooled his own family for years. No one knew what was wrong with him. Of course, now everyone knew. He was a toxic mess. At least now the outside matched the inside. The one thing Mary couldn’t fault him was the he had loved his daughter. Perhaps more than his wife ever had.

Or at least in a healthier way.

“I’ll bring you the dvd. It was filmed for PBS. Which I was actually very impressed with at the time. I mean, it was the start of my come-back.” And a shining moment, considering she had always wants to do a play. Something that let her show her love of the Bard.

Babydoll: ... I know what a unicorn is Jerv. I might be a delusional mess but I still used to read fairy tales ya know? Besides, the fact that ALL cultures around the world talk about unicorns is a proof that, like dragons, they probably existed at some point in History. Anyway.. If that's the case, what happened to them?

Jervis: ... Noah's Ark.

Babydoll: I beg your pardon?

Jervis: Well, even though I'm not exactly a fan of religious stuff in general, I'm still curious about new cultures, etc... So, I read the Christian texts. And there's this story about a guy named Noah. God asked him to build an ark and was basically like "heh lolilol, Humanity is doomed but I like you. You're gonna take your family with you as well as a pair of each single animal species that ever was on Earth". And Noah said "ok, whatever you say dude". Because, honestly, who wants to anger the creepy loud voice coming from nowhere, right? Anywaaaay, he builds the ark, makes sure his family is safe and everything and then, OH MY GOOOOD, he notices that the unicorns are missing. Fuck that shit, he runs to the forest and brings back a pair of unicorns aboard.

Babydoll: ... Uh... What happened then??

Jervis: Heh. It's only while they were lost in the middle of nowhere that he went to check on the animals and noticed that OOPS, Big Motherfucking OOPS, both unicorns were MALE. Oooooops.

Babydoll: ... Jerv. What was in your tea?

Jervis: Hmmm... Some special beverage Jonathan gave me. He said I looked a bit tired recently. He said I needed something to make me see the world in a brighter light.

Babydoll: ... -_-

Jervis: What?

Babydoll: nothing, nothing... I'd just be curious to hear your version of what happened to the dragons now.

Agreed wholeheartedly. I mean, I’m all for a political action/thriller about black hat hackers, but this is not a great film.

If he wasn’t wearing a shirt, at least I could say the film held some charm.

Oh yeah. I mean a love a good movie. But for the bad ones? Men that hot should not be clothed. I mean they do it with bad actresses. Take her top off and suddenly it’s a blockbuster hit.

Well, you’d know better than I would about the quality of acting talent. I only know what I like - and that means it has to have a believable plot.

I’m sure you can easily pick out the gems vs the stones. But yes, a good script is key.

I though a Chris Hemsworth movie where he stars as an elite hacker would be good.

His shirt is on entirely too much for me to enjoy this.

Settling In

She smiled when Mary chuckled. It wasn’t at her, it was with her, like they were old friends in on a joke together.

“I guess I’ve been keeping up with appearances for so long that I forget people are probably just as much of a wreck as I am. It’s easy to forget when everyone looks so effortless.” hip hop classes were much less intense, still technically difficult, but she felt a bit freer.

But Mary was a good person. She wouldn’t have taken this time to talk with her and to comfort her if she wasn’t. She was doing more than her own sister was at this moment in time. Everything went back to how stressed Alex was, to how heartbroken she was over Randy. How she wanted a baby, but she would just have to settle for an emotionally damaged teenager. How did she think Orion felt? She knew she had to fill Randy’s shoes, and she was homesick for her father. She was taken away from him only to be practically ignored for work and emotional breakdowns. Orion had no rock, she had no constant support. Everything seemed to be on glass, every time she made progress, she could feel it crack.

“Alright. I’ll try. Who are these girls?” she was much more comfortable around boys, they were easier, in her opinion.

“One of the best that I know. I don’t care if you say Macbeth is camp, I love it.” she giggled.

“It’s all acting, hun. People wear masks and they only show their true faces when they’re alone.” And even then. Sometimes you never saw your true face for your self. Sometimes you just went on seeing yourself the way other people do.

“Glad you asked.” Mary said, steering the teen to leave. They’d make their way to the dorm section where the two girls Mary wanted Orion to meet were in their dorm at the moment.

Mary had to laugh at that. “Macbeth was the worst thing ever! I should have never done it. No one can take me seriously. Now, when I did Puck in Midsummer Night’s Dream? That worked. People have an easier time laughing with me. And I have an easier time when it’s not at me.”

Settling In

“That’s therapy unfortunately. That your therapist telling ‘Just think positively.’ Right after you tried to kill yourself and half the city…but I digress.” That was such ancient history that Mary could hardly remember what her plan had even BEEN.

Orion was definitely too tense. The girl sat like Mary was some stern school marm. “There is nothing wrong with that, but we’re in school here, you gotta relax a little. Your teachers and other students don’t expect to see you perfect every second of the day.” And Mary agreed, “Of course everyone wants to be perfect when they perform. I used to go to acting classes and voice classes and any kind of class I could get into just to be perfect. But it ate away at my childhood. I never got to play with kids my own age, and by the time I was a teen, I had no idea what it was like to be myself or be anything else but an actress. I was stunted to say the least.” And then even that didn’t go right.

“Just…cut yourself a little slack. No one here expects you to be perfect. We are all in the process of learning. Even me and I’m in my 80′s.” The tiny woman exclaimed.

“It’s just a waste of my time. I hate wasting my time.” she was very much like her father, efficient with her time, and who got to see her during the rare downtime she had. Kill half of the city? Now there was something she hadn’t anticipated hearing. She was about to ask before Mary cut her off.

She shrugged, tucking a piece of stray hair back into her bun meticulously. It wasn’t so wrong to try, was it? “I guess it is just intimidating feeling like the only weak link in the class. I want to make sure rehearsal goes smoothly, and we use each minute that we have most efficiently. I want people to like me…” she trailed off. Hard work would always be respected and admired, and the older kids would like her because she could hold her own. She nodded as Mary spoke. “But you’re having fun now, right? You don’t have to have a childhood to be happy.”

Orion had stopped being a kid when she was ten, and Batman and the accident with her father all happened. She wasn’t always as serious as she was now, but she had lost both of her parents in what seemed to be one fell swoop.

“You seem to know who you are and what you want…you’ve always seemed that way to me. How are you so confident so easily?”

Mary chuckled affectionately. “Everything is a waste of time when your young. Time just goes by too fast.”And, boy, did she know it. She looked down at her hands, still small and almost child-like, but delicate and wrinkled. Time marched forward and dragged your carcass in the dirt behind it.

“I don’t imagine you’re the only one who feels that way. Everyone wants to be perfect. Every ballerina I’ve ever met puts on an air of snobbish perfectionism, but they’re a mess in private.” Mary had known too many students who bent under self-imposed pressure. Or parental-induced pressure as the case may be.

Mary hesitated a moment. “No. Not really. I wish I’d had those years to learn how to be a better person. But you still got some left, kiddo, and I’m not going to let you waste them. I promise, if you don’t like the girls I introduce you to then you can go back to practicing and being a perfectionist loner. All I ask if that you try.” Mary stood up again, leaning on her cane for balance. Her hips weren’t all that great any more, and a hip surgery was definitely in her future.

“I’m 85 years old, Orion. This is the work I’ve done till now. But I still find myself in doubt from time to time. I just have gotten better at not showing it.” She tried to think of an example. “Believe me when I tell you that most of the time I’m just a really amazing actress.”
