I'd like to propose my headcanon of pre-Eye Jon having aphantasia [the inability to create images in one's mind] so whenever he tried to visualise or picture some details within a statement he'd try and doodle the concept on a notepad, or look it up, or make a note of it and look through books in the Institute library on the topic in hopes there's pictures. Then, after he starts serving the Beholding he just.. sees so clearly now. He doesn't even have to perfectly focus, he can just visualise things fine now.
