We’ve all seen this image of the girl reading in her awesome loft bed, but have you ever seen the rest of the apartment? Take a look at how the firm, Jordan Parnass Digital Architecture, took advantage of an existing roof popup to create a wildly spatially efficient live/work studio.  I love the use of congruent materials on the innermost side of the apartment, creating the feeling of an independent object existing within the space.  Diller Scofidio & Renfro created something similar when they renovated Alice Tully Hall.  I think it’s a really cool concept and I love how it works here.  See more: http://bit.ly/K4YcLN

Huzzah, CAT was amazing. What a place to be able to go and study hidden away in the Welsh foothills. I'm pretty sure I could get lost there for days with just a sketch book and a camera, maybe that'll be the first week of lectures.

The course sounds excellent to. Having the ability to explore your own ideas and agendas, of course suiting the project brief (or not), will allow any student to become the kind of Architect they want to be rather than just whats' crammed down your throat from the university you've chosen.

But before I get to go and study I need to find a new flat, the hunt has begun, and I need to save some money for a kitten. The deal with the girlfriend is if I go to CAT she gets a cat. Not any old cat but a Ragdoll x something. This is because their pretty chilled out and would make a good indoor cat, I'm not sure Kim would like picking up dead mice and birds brought to us as gifts. This does mean that the new flat has to be cat friendly and the landlord has to allow pets but there's not to many of those around.

The best news of all is that my new business with my dad and brother has kicked off. We have one contract signed for some building maintenance works and one to be signed next week for a loft conversion with others in the pipeline.

I think working for myself, in my new flat, with a chilled out cat and heading up to the Centre for Alternative Technologies once a month is the way forward.
