I just realized the reader wanted like a different ending but I already wrote this soo.. I’m sorry I hope you don’t mind :(
Blossoms bloomed, rain dripped from clouds, seasons went by, and the sky got light then dark again.
You left the cult. You can’t exactly remember the exact date but you recall escaping after witnessing just how horrible this place was. You watched your ex best friend die right in front of your very eyes. All of the twisted scriptures you once believed now simply seen as scribbles of a mad man. Beliefs now shattered as you snapped out of your daydream to insanity.
You quickly left without saying another word. Leaving behind the cursed teachings of the cult and the heartbreak you faced. You didn’t take too many belongings, after all, you didn’t have much to begin with.
Now you live comfortably, in a rather medium-sized town.
Do this day you still think back. You were doing nothing but watering the plants in the forgotten garden, the plants only remembered by one. And you saw it. In the very garden you and Azure grew together. The one he abandoned to go off and start a new. All of the memories you once shared, now torn and ripped apart by fate.
You hadn’t exactly moved on. After all it wasn’t exactly easy. Even if the incident happened years prior you sometimes shiver the moment you see a picture of a nightshade. The flower, an essence of beauty, can still hold the deadliest poison. A poisoned reminder of everything… of the one you had lost.
You tried to shake the thoughts from your head. You were in the downtown, currently shopping for new groceries as your the stock you had was running low. You exit the market with two bags filled with food in your hands.
You try to search through all of your thoughts to see if you had any more errands you need to run. You were simply crossing the street, after all it was a red light. But you weren’t expecting to hear a car still moving. You turn your head and freeze, this now proving to be a fatal mistake.
The car collided with your body. For a second all you felt was a horrible, fiery pain shoot up throughout your entire form. You hit the ground, and are met with an unfamiliar darkness that feels simply reeks of misfortune.
You woke up in a cabin. Its lights dim and barely flickering, the sound of fire crackling being the only sound filling the cabin. Unfortunately you found yourself somewhere far away from where you once were. You would’ve expected to wake up in a hospital but that wasn’t the case.
The other people who sought residency here explained to you that you have been forsaken-ed.. whatever that means. A otherworldly dimension where you are forced to partake in these rounds where you fix broken down generators while one of the killers hunts you down.
No, not very pleasant.. is it?
You instantly froze the moment you saw them. Two Time, standing there… around six feet away from where you stood. You feel as though your breath got stuck in your throat as you feel their eyes gaze upon your form. A shiver runs down your spine, and you instinctively take a step back.
You’re not quite sure they even remember you. But, judging by how long their gaze lingered, you’d assume they did. You were rightfully frightened.
You tried to avoid them, refuse to return their gaze when they looked at you. Refuse to even speak to them. This may have cause a few one-sided conversations.
You watched them kill their lover and your ex-best friend. You had no intention of ever speaking to them. But for some reason they’d always linger by you, and it would frustrate you. Why couldn’t you just leave behind your past?
You were so fed up with the hauntings and the nightmares. Now forced to face the one of the people who shattered it all. This realm truly was hell.
Perhaps you blamed them, not just them though. You knew Azure played a part in your heartbreak as well. He was the one who decided to spend less time with you, and take your friendship for granted. But you still held resentment for Two Time and it would soon bubble up.
“Why don’t you look at me?” You hear their voice from behind you. “I understand we had a falling out but… you don’t dare to even say a single word to me.”
You stare at the candle burning in the center of the table. Wax melting from the hot flame as a yellow light illuminated the dim cabin. Your eyes remain half-lidded, focused on the candle.
“You say that as though you didn’t take him away from me. In more ways than one.” You responded, venom lacing your quiet tone. You hear the chair across from you shift. They obviously hadn’t expected a reply from you. A small shaky sigh follows after.
“I’m sorry.” Their tone is soft, trembling. Maybe they’re holding back tears. You’re not sure, you don’t care. You’ve grown numb to that fact now.
“I-It… it was necessary…” They mumbled.
You thought that they’d get up and leave, but they didn’t. They stayed there, sitting across from you. Silence enveloping the two of you.
You then stand, the chair behind you screeching from the movement. “I no longer follow the word of the ‘Spawn.’ The only word I follow is my own.” You say giving them a small glance, before turning away from them once more.
You supposed it would be nothing but another loop of the forever continuing rounds. It started off as such, fixing the non-working generators, picking up a cola and a medkit. The normal—or as normal as it can get in a realm like this.
It was familiar now, easy, you’ve gotten the hang of it. Knowledge upon every killer chasing you down which came in handy at times. You expected it.
But what you didn’t expect was him. Time felt as though it slowed the moment you laid eyes upon the so call ‘new’ killer. For a moment, your heartbeat stopped as everything you were about to say died out on your tongue.
It was Azure, you knew it was them. He still wore the same hat, but now a wicked looking face was upon the hat. His often soft expression now sharp and filled with disdain and anger. Tentacles now adorned his back, and they stood much taller now.
The gentleness from them that you once knew, now twisted and corrupted into to cold, harsh, cruelty.
Blood was splattered onto his form as you notice his expression softened once he laid eyes upon you too. You… why were you here? His once best friend he grew distant from. Wait, why did that happen?
It shouldn’t matter! He should be killing you! But for some reason… it was hard to even raise a hand to scratch you, a tentacle to strangle you, and look of disgust before he absolutely slaughtered you. But instead he just stared, and you didn’t move either.
The one who killed him, and the one he left. The Specter was rather cruel… weren’t they. He left you… and for some reason he hadn’t thought back on it before. But there you stood, body trembling.
“Azure..?” You said it, you said his name. He remembers now. You two grew a whole garden together. You always returned his softness, knew him better than anybody else. And yet, he left you. Simply because he was so utterly in love with someone who ended up sacrificing him. And instead, he allowed himself to because he was just that smitten.
Love can turn you into an idiot. It can cause you to do stupid things. Azure certainly was no different.
But he never gave you a chance. You were less gullible, and much more supportive. He had to admit, you did cross his mind many times, but he decided to fall in love with Two Time instead of you. This decision proving to be fatal.
If he had been with you… he’d probably still be alive. Maybe you two would’ve lived happy lives, maybe you would’ve convinced him to leave the cult and find your own place, perhaps you would’ve even gotten married…
If only he gave you chance, if only he had told you how much he loved you before everything came crushing down, your friendship and love crumbling into bits.
Things would’ve been different.
“Oh… you.. you never showed up.” Your voice was barely above a whisper as your gaze seemed locked onto him, unable to look away from the sight in front of you. “I never thought we’d meet again.. especially not like this.” You pause, the underside of your vision blurring slightly as you felt tears begin to form.
Azure’s eyes narrowed slightly as a soft breeze rushed past the two of you. He was sorry, he truly was. Made you feel as though you were just a single chapter in his book while he was mentioned on practically every page in yours. They left you be when you didn’t want to be alone. They accepted your love only to give it back to you once they set eyes on another person. If only they could go back, apologize for leaving you, and be with you.
But of course, you cannot rewrite the past.
If he had been with you it would’ve been different.
If he had told you it would’ve been different.
But, now, all that exists is the present.
And having to carry the weight and burden of everything that once was, that in the end shattered each of your hearts.
