Was in my drafts so im posting to keep it bc i miss my boys

Personal post but Another reason arts been slow is I’ve been training the family dog to walk

Parents bought him with no plans to actually do any leash training and gave him far too much puppy playtime off leash with other dogs so he’s reactive (friendly but gets frustrated he cant go after every dog snd play) and pulls like a train because hes a big big boy (american bulldog X mastiff)

Hes 2 now and the talks about getting shot of him has been…stressful

I tried with him as a puppy but had the sabotage of other people taking him out and basically letting him act or interact as they see fit even when I asked them to do simple things like turn around when he pulls (i was given the rhetoric or “when im in a walk we should just walk im not looking like a fool doing loops”)

Now however everyone has given up and I got a good depression medication sorted for me so Ive had energy to put in work!

Ive been practicing multiple times in the garden, getting him staying calm when i get my coat and his halti out and just making sure every door we pas through before leaving he has to wait and look at me (the right treats are a big factor)

Its been just under a week and he already walks loose lead with me! Ive had improvements with walking by people too and our big challenge with be walking right by other dogs calmly.

If this keeps up theyll have no cause to get rid of him and his behavior so far has had me finally enjoying walks with him.

Its taking up time but ive really been happy with his progress and also proving my parents wrong about our dog and his trainability!
