The Democratic Republic of News Corp

The preferred political party of News Corp isn't working out too great, so now News Corp wants Australia to become a dictatorship.  After reading this, at first I thought living in a dictatorship was a great idea.  But then I had a really big bowel movement, and the urge for dictatorship went away.  Now I’m happy with democracy once again.  Sticking with democracy is probably a good idea.

I thought I wanted a dictatorship, but turns out I just needed to poo. Maybe I need more fiber in my diet.

Tom Elliott calls for Australia to become a dictatorship

After reading Tom Elliott's opinion piece on the weekend, I woke up this morning really wanting Australia to become a dictatorship.  Living in a dictatorship suddenly seemed like a great idea.  But then I had a big breakfast and now I'm happy with democracy once again.  Sticking with democracy is probably a better option.

I thought I wanted a dictatorship, but turns out I was just hungry.  Maybe I should have my blood sugar checked or something.

Keeping free time scarce means people pay a lot more for convenience, gratification, and any other relief they can buy. It keeps them watching television, and its commercials. It keeps them unambitious outside of work. We’ve been led into a culture that has been engineered to leave us tired, hungry for indulgence, willing to pay a lot for convenience and entertainment, and most importantly, vaguely dissatisfied with our lives so that we continue wanting things we don’t have. We buy so much because it always seems like something is still missing.

Otherwise, there is the crisis of leadership, which I’ve talked about before. It’s not just in politics – it’s a disease, as far as I can see, that has permeated through various layers of the community. Larger businesses especially – these guys are just not investing. The way I see things, it’s this culture of mediocrity, of welfare dependence and entitlement that is weighing. It’s the same force, funnily enough, that is guiding the Reserve Bank's exchange rate target. What we need is a culture that encourages the entrepreneurs, the change agents or dream-weavers. Instead these people get shot down from the outset, labelled as ‘eccentric’ or weird as a means of general white-anting and maintaining the status quo. The US doesn’t do this, which is why it's such a dynamic country and why, unfortunately, many of our own entrepreneurs head over there for financing and other support. What we get stuck with is people without vision, who whine and complain and cry for the government to do something. Like everyone else, I’m hoping confidence bounces following the election – and everyone wants this government gone, it can’t govern and it's done nothing but introduce instability. But given this culture of mediocrity, I’m not sure confidence will bounce anyway.

12th Doctor

I lost interest in this new modern incarnation of Doctor Who a while back (just didn't care for what Russell T Davies did with it), so can't say I care too much who the next Doctor is.  Just as well, for while Peter Capaldi is awesome, and I'm sure he'll be great as the next Doctor, I don't think I could get past him as Malcolm Tucker.  I'd spend the whole time wondering what the hell Malcolm Tucker is doing in the TARDIS, and what the fuck has he done with The Doctor?!

Now there's an idea, Malcolm Tucker in the TARDIS, threatening unsuspecting aliens with the prospect of popping a jaunty little sonic screwdriver on their purview and ramming it up their shitter with a lubricated horse cock  Assuming aliens have shitters.  Now that I might actually watch.

Random thoughts and observations:

They were loud!

Ozzy's voice was incredible, he's still got it, despite the age and drugs!

Observing Ozzy shuffling around on stage from the nosebleed section, he is at once a comical yet charismatic figure.  He is hunched over and shuffles around like an old man, yet jumps around and displays an energy that belies his age (and lifestyle!). 

It was obvious the crowd loved Ozzy.

And the songs!  All those great classic old Sabbath songs!

There was a bucket of water on stage near the drum riser, which Ozzy would go to throughout the show and splash water on his face, or even dunk his whole head in at times.  When it became half full Ozzy would throw the remaining water over the crowd, then stage hands would bring out another full bucket.  The last time he did this, towards the end of the show, whether intentionally or on purpose I'm not sure, but he completely missed the audience and instead got pretty much all the water on a security person near the stage, who was definitely not impressed!

Hard hitting fill in drummer Tommy Clufetos was really impressive.  And his extended drum solo in the middle of show was off the charts incredible!

Almost didn't go, was enticed at the last minute with cheap tickets in the nosebleed section.  But really glad I did go, it was an incredible show (even from the crap seats!), and it was so great to see that line up with Ozzy out front. 

This was my third concert in as many days (after Aerosmith day before, and Tool before that).  What is it with all these bands touring at once?  And what is it with all these old bands touring?  (KISS, Motley Crue, GNR and now Black Sabbath).  Stocking up their retirement fund?  Not that I'm complaining, it's been great to see them all.
