Kuki Sanban grew up in a wealthy Japanese household where she was expected to be the perfect daughter in every aspect of her life, leaving very little room to simply be herself. Living with ADHD, she learned at an early age to mask her struggles behind an endless smile, becoming a chronic people pleaser who believed her value came from making everyone else happy. Rather than expressing frustration or disappointment, she buried her emotions and convinced herself that being cheerful was the easiest way to avoid conflict. Joining Sector V gave her a place where she finally felt accepted, and her teammates quickly became the family she chose for herself. Her closest friendship was with Wally, who always seemed to understand her without asking her to pretend. Everything changed when he unexpectedly moved back to Sydney during fifth grade because of a family matter, leaving Kuki feeling abandoned even though she never blamed him for leaving. She threw herself into her missions and friendships, trying to fill the emptiness by becoming even more dependable to everyone around her. Wally returned near the end of sixth grade, but years apart left both of them unsure how to reconnect the way they once had. An impulsive kiss at the end of a pier only complicated those feelings, and the two silently agreed to pretend it had never happened instead of confronting the emotions neither of them understood. Soon afterward, Kuki experienced one of the hardest periods of her childhood as she watched each member of Sector V become decommissioned, eventually leaving her as the youngest and final member behind. Losing her teammates one by one only strengthened her fear that everyone she loved would eventually leave her, convincing her she simply needed to work harder to keep people close. During her teenage years she became an overachiever, filling every hour of her schedule with school, theater, volunteer work at an animal shelter, extracurricular activities, and T&D, rarely giving herself time to rest or reflect. Although she and Wally repeatedly drifted together and apart, their bond never truly disappeared, with friendship bracelets, misunderstandings, and unresolved feelings defining much of their adolescence as they slowly discovered who they wanted to become. By the time she entered college, Kuki had spent most of her life believing love, acceptance, and success were things that had to be earned through perfection, leaving her vulnerable to anyone willing to take advantage of that belief. When she met Mark, his kindness and stability seemed like everything she had spent years convincing herself she needed, never realizing the relationship would become the greatest challenge of her life.

Kuki's relationship with Mark appeared loving during its first two years, but after they moved in together his behavior became increasingly controlling, manipulative, and eventually abusive, leaving her trapped in a cycle she believed she could fix if she simply loved him enough. Years of believing that good people endured hardship without complaint caused her to excuse his actions and continue masking her pain behind the same bright smile she had worn since childhood. It was Abby who finally recognized the truth, refusing to ignore the signs and telling the rest of their friends despite Kuki insisting everything was fine. With the support of her friends, and Wally refusing to stand by while she suffered, Kuki was finally able to escape the relationship and begin rebuilding her life. She temporarily moved in with Abby and Cody, where she slowly learned what genuine care, safety, and unconditional support actually looked like. Recovery was neither quick nor easy, and she had to unlearn years of guilt, self-blame, and the belief that her worth depended entirely on what she could do for others. As she healed, she and Wally found their way back to one another, this time choosing honesty over avoidance and communication over silence. Their relationship still faced challenges, but unlike before, they actively worked through their differences instead of pretending everything was fine, allowing their bond to grow into something genuinely healthy. Together they eventually married and welcomed four children, creating the kind of loving, emotionally open home Kuki had always wished for as a child. She fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a kindergarten teacher, where her patience, creativity, and empathy allowed her to become a safe adult for children who struggled to fit into expectations. Her relationship with her parents never truly recovered after they openly supported Mark because he represented the successful, respectable husband they had always wanted for her while refusing to acknowledge the abuse she endured. Choosing Wally instead created a permanent divide, and although they remain informed about major milestones in her family's life, they are no longer close and rarely speak beyond occasional updates. For many years Kuki distanced herself from her Japanese heritage because it reminded her of the impossible standards she grew up under, but healing eventually allowed her to reclaim it on her own terms rather than her parents'. She continues speaking Japanese with her children, cooks traditional family recipes, and celebrates the holidays that hold personal meaning while allowing her multicultural family to create traditions entirely their own. By the end of her journey, Kuki finally understands that love is not something earned through perfection, but something built through honesty, respect, and the freedom to be completely herself.

Okay I'm going on this rant way out of season and maybe I'll repost it closer to the holidays, but it absolutely KILLS me that Santa is not a villain in KND.

You're really telling me that there is an *adult* in a secure location in the north pole that decides which children get to be happy on Christmas and which children deserve nothing but disappointment and THE KIDS NEXT DOOR ARE FINE WITH THAT?!?! Yes, the canon one we got put the KND on the nice list and the Delightfuls on the naughty list, so apparently he's one of the 0.01% of adults in that world with good judgement, but come on. We're really letting an adult determine which kids deserve a Christmas? No Nigel conspiracy about how Santa is being fed information through parents and teachers and exists to bribe and brainwash children into being perfectly obedient every winter? No overnight mission to distribute presents to children who were unfairly put on the naughty list? No attempt to hijack or guard against Santa's mass surveillance system used to spy on children around the world? Come ON guys there is NO WAY THIS GUY IN THIS SPECIFIC UNIVERSE IS GOOD!!

Delightful Children hcs (namely stuff about their personalities and delightfulization)

Delightfulization shares a lot of traits with dissociative disorders and brain damage. The latter more relates to how they manage their motor skills and their relation with sense, namely vision and proprioception (body position).

They can technically see (all their eyes are technically functioning fine), they struggle to register what they are necessarily seeing. They often struggle to remember/register faces of others (including their own), regulate eye movement, and name characteristics of objects (ex. color). This ends up mixing very poorly with their dissociative issues. They often have to rely a lot on their hearing to recognize others.

Most of their issues with proprioception are a result of them being a hivemind and having to manage the bodily movements of so many people at once. It takes quite a bit of concentration for each individual member to move on their own, though they may stumble or drift off in moments of stress. As a result, most of them have synchronized movements even in situations where it doesn't make sense for them to do that (ex. all talking at once, one member picking an object up causing the others to pick up nothing from the ground). They also have issues with undershooting and spatial awareness in general. Funnily enough, their awareness actually increases when separated, almost to an overstimulating degree.

Many, many memory issues. Most of it impacts memories before delightfulization and they are under the assumption that Father is their biological Father and the only parent they've ever known. Occasionally they will get a glimmer of their past, but whose past is it specifically always trips them up.

They very often confuse one another for each other, which gets incredibly difficult whenever traits of one member overlap with another. The overlap prompts them (mostly Alessandra) to make the assumption they are just one singular person that's "playing pretend". This makes the revelation that they are separate people much more painful. This also causes them to have a lot of alexithymia.

They fervently deny their issues, though Bruce and Alessandra are common culprits. Lenny, David, and Constance often become the target for this denial, as they often hold some of the group's more revealing and troubling issues. Most of this is a result of dissociation

Thoughts range from dead silent to very very loud. Tends to be the latter.

Technically, all the members are making decisions/in a state of "fronting", but some members are more active in decision making in day-to-day life, which is usually Bruce and Alessandra.

Theres probably no need to say this but they are dissociating a lot. Whenever there's no action, the world is just a void to them, just an endless dark room full of vaguely familiar objects.

Most of their personalities overlap but they still have individual traits:

Bruce is very bratty and sadistic, a street urchin in the body of a prissy prince. As much as he helps tolerate the beating he helps cause them.

Alessandra is their "levelheaded leader"/host. A pseudo-parental figure to the others, giving them some level of self control. Father sometimes adultifies (largely due to projection) the Delightful Children, and she usually ends up getting impacted by it the most. She is very perfectionistic, but enjoys being cruel with Bruce at times. She tries to have the best of both worlds between behaving and misbehaving as performing femininity is both a prison and a privilege for her.

Constance is the sensitive soul of the Delightful Children. She is prone to fawning and fleeing. She often tries to seek comfort from others, especially Father. Deeply childlike, she's usually the main cause for the Delightful Children falling for Father's manipulation.

Lenny is highly enigmatic and that frustrates both their fellow members and Father. Lenny often suffers the most from dissociation and their gender dysphoria can spread to the others, releasing a stampede of confusion amongst the members. They are somewhat of a klutz and can become spiteful/angsty in some situations. Despite suffering the most from Dissociation, Lenny tends to be the one who gets the most glimpses into the group's pre-Delightfulized past. In rare occasions, they are the one responsible for group getting so close to questioning their situation.

David is incredibly shy and tries to run away from consequence. He sometimes butts in to deal with a situation only to delay the inevitable. They are also very anxious and prone to dissociation; the concept of aging is what triggers the teenager typically. He is the oldest within the group, dealing with his own developmental problems that confuse the others, especially the youngest member, Constance.

Their current personalities are only distortions of the lovely children they used to be.

Bruce was certainly still mischievous and a prankster, but he was keen on using it for good. He was very rebellious and casual, having a strong hatred for snobby pompous rich-types.

Alessandra was a smart, diplomatic, and gentle leader. She was still perfectionistic, though she mostly kept it to herself. She took pride in her femininity, and she was keen on preventing others and herself from seeing her as lesser for it.

Constance was brave in the purest form: Afraid of so much, but still overcoming anyway. She came from a troubled background, being a common target for bullying and isolation, and she strove to be kind to others so they would never feel the loneliness she's felt before.

Lenny was quite nerdy and eccentric, as per every 4x2 engineer. They were quite shy, but was very open around their friends. Lenny seemed like the type that Bruce would poke fun at, but them and Bruce were actually very close friends.

David was still shy, but made efforts to be a part of the team, usually through acting as a voice of reason. He was a big dreamer, creative, and rather feminine. Despite their efforts, David would sometimes get lost in their head and be overcome with anxiety, often causing him to isolate from the others. The last few days before Delightfulization had him become very enigmatic as the dread of his 13th birthday loomed in his head.

Genuine question, how do you guys do the hands in KND or semi-KND style? They're too big and goofy for the mitten method, or at least, they're too big and goofy for MY mitten method. I can kinda copy the hands, but I can't figure out how to *construct* them

Teenage Wally has a mouth that could make an adult blush. He swears so much that eventually Hoagie got tired of hearing Nigel complain about it and built a tiny handheld device out of spare 2x4 technology. The team jokingly named it the Bleep Machine. The machine doesn't actually stop Wally from cursing, it just replaces every colorful word with loud electronic beeps. Because of this, conversations with an angry Wally usually sound something like:

Wally: "Are you freaking—"

Hoagie: click

*BEEEEEP BEEP BEEP BEEEEEEEEEP—

Nigel: "Language, Wally."

Wally: gestures angrily while the machine continues beeping.

After years of friendship, the team has learned that the Bleep Machine serves another purpose: it

doubles as an anger meter.

Kuki, especially, can tell when Wally is about to blow up long before anyone else. She knows the warning signs by heart, the eye twitch, the way he starts bouncing his leg, the dramatic inhale right before the first curse leaves his mouth.

Whenever she notices it, she'll calmly announce:

Kuki: "Uh, guys? Get the machine. He's about to start."

Without fail, Hoagie reaches into his pocket and prepares for impact.

The others trust Kuki's judgment completely because she's almost never wrong. At this point, she can predict Wally's meltdowns with scary accuracy.

Bonus, the team guessed the algorithm based of how long is it

3 second beep = mildly annoyed.

10 second beep = somebody broke his stuff.

20 second beep = somebody insulted Kuki.

45 second beep = emergency evacuation recommended/ just walk away
