I agree. Fukushima incident was so damn unfortunate :( The personal made all the safety protoccol and predictions possible, but how the generator was flooded by a tsunami was the just so dumb and easy to screw all the hard work. Having to look far ahead outside of the box to predict any probable accident is so hard :(
It was not a nuclear plant problem, it was not a person problem. it was just natural disaster messing with humans capabilities :(
Yet people love to bash about nuclear energy damaging the enviorment yet forget coal and oil energyâŠ.from someone who lives in a country without nuclear energy and has more hidroelectric energy than coal and oil energy. I know it is the cleanest energy when done well. Fukushima did amazing :( It pains me how it ended so badly because a tsunami.
The bit everyone forgets is that despite this, no one died because of the accident :)
Oh hell no. I did not study this in two seperate academic classes for this kind of misinformation to get spread around. For people who donât want to read, hereâs the excellent documentary that covers a lot of this. The Fukushima Nuclear Disaster was the result of corner cutting, poor design, and the Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings aka TEPCOâs blatant negligence.
When the tsunami hit the plant, it hit the very important backup generators, which were placed outside. Now, in the US, that kind of placement is typically fine. But Japan is earthquake country. It get tsunamis on the coast. Frequently enough that seawalls are up and down the coastline. So why were the very important backup generators outside? They copied the American design. And when they were warned about it, TEPCO ignored them. The extremely brave and selfless workers (the documentary does a wonderful job talking about their work) risked their lives because if they didnât, there would have been a massive hole in the country. We were actually inches from a full nuclear meltdown and explosion, and the reason Iâm not dead is because of luck, and those who went in, knowing the cancer risks. The older men, and those without family or kids volunteered to go in and stop the meltdown. Fukushima wasnât a natural disaster. It was manmade. Full stop.
Hey Nat!
I don't know if you'll see this in time, as I know you have a lot of asks! But, if you could spare the time to give this a signal boost, I would really, really appreciate it.
I'm doing a survey for my Extended Project Qualification, which is a university-style research project some UK students do at 17-18. My EPQ is based on AFAB experiences of autism and gender identity. As an AFAB who is probably neurodivergent myself, I thought this would be really interesting to look into! If you have any AFAB autistic followers, maybe they would like to have a look at it? It takes up about 5-10 minutes to complete. It will be up for three weeks until the 30th of May 2021.
The link is on my blog page - it's on a pinned post. There's also more information on the post and on the survey. Thank you so much, I hope you have a nice day! :)
Iâll totally give this a signal boost! My friend just finished her EPQ, and I considered doing one last year (but the ADHD said no to doing anything else, lol, so I didnât) but anyway, I know theyâre... a lot of effort. Good luck with it!
And Iâll go fill it out now, because if I donât then Iâll forget đ
Even if you don't think/know that you have [disorder] (or even if you know you don't!) you're allowed to use coping strategies meant for or associated with that disorder. You can use ADHD tips for your poor memory. You can stim even if you're not autistic (stimming has a lot of overlap between disorders honestly). You can use chronic fatigue tips if you have depression. You're not stealing resources. If it helps you, it helps you, whether you were the target audience or not
#dismantling the 'but am I hurting ENOUGH?' brain voice improves the life immeasurably
happy autism acceptance month, asperger's is still an ableist and useless term
For the record, there are still plenty of people who were diagnosed with Aspergers, and though they know the clinical use of the term is obsolete, it is still useful to them as form of self ID.
Basically, please no one go yelling at anyone who calls themselves an Aspie etc. They have the right to ID how they want. If theyâre not being assholes, donât go and be an asshole yourself.
hanging out with other ADHD people is such a balm. i can interrupt them midsentence and go âlook at that nice duck!!â and theyâll immediately turn around and go âoh my god that is a GOOD duckâ instead of just snapping at me to pay attention
And then we can immediately go back to what we were talking about without transition
Or realize âShit I forgot what I was just talking aboutâ âSameâ âUhhâŠâ *tries to figure it out together*
when u spend hours researching ur mental disorder bc ur mental disorder made u hyperfocus on ur mental disorder
This is why this blog exists
trying to divine the inner works of my autistic brain feels like such a bizarrely mystical process sometimes. why can't I focus today? because the stars are not aligned! the stars are not aligned and there is a low pressure front moving through! no executive function bc of inclement weather!
I'm now adopting "the stars are not in position" to explain executive dysfunction.
That is as reasonable as any of the actual explanations!!!
Too accurate too accurate I cannot BELIEVE-
Manager: So can you talk to me a bit about your strengths and weaknesses?
Me: *literally just describes ADHD symptoms*
âYeah my weakness is that Iâm very sensitive to criticism but it can be a strength because it means I consider the feelings of others when criticizing or coaching them and make sure I always offer encouragement and positive reinforcement.â
âOne of my weaknesses is that I often hop from task to task and sometimes get my wires crossed or miss a step, but the same setting makes me thrive in a fast-paced environment.â
âOne of my weaknesses is that I can sometimes talk too much or dominate a conversation, but it becomes a strength when Iâm in a position to connect with customers and Iâm able to encourage conversation comfortably.â
My mom says that Iâll probably grow out of ADHD when Iâm an adult, but Iâve also read that most people donât end up growing out of ADHD. Am I more likely to grow out of it and no longer need medication, or have ADHD for the rest of my life?
ADHD isnât something you can âgrow out ofâ. Itâs a part of us.
Itâs not something you can âcureâ, like anxiety or depression - itâs a different way of thinking. Itâs caused by a variety of things, but the two main reasons are differences in the shape of the frontal lobe, and an underproduction of dopamine.
Your frontal lobe wonât suddenly change shape, and you wonât suddenly start producing more dopamine. (In the same way that a diabetic wonât suddenly start producing more insulin.) You might find it easier to cope with the symptoms of ADHD as you get older, or you might start masking them, but they wonât go away. If you get medication, though, then theyâll be easier to handle.
