I'm really curious about this!! in aotearoa, every classroom I was in growing up had posters up on how to respond to an earthquake. "drop, cover, hold" was drilled into me from a very young age. I experienced a few growing up, but they were mild because I don't live in areas where they are more extreme. One of our major cities, christchurch/ōtautahi, gets hit by earthquakes very frequently. if you look at a global seismic hazard map, aotearoa is fully lit up in the colour indicating high hazard chance. wild!!!

for reference, in the UK (similar size country) there are around 20-30 noticeable earthquakes per year. in aotearoa, that number is around 100-250!

William Finn's ability to write about human imperfection was so sincere, profound and succinct. It has not and will likely not ever be replicated. I am reminded of such simple lyrics like

He is, to me, the composer that best understood the humanity that lies in making mistakes.

(i do think that he comes to view her as a woman, based on the ending, buuuut only subconsciously or semi consciously. before she leaves he calls her his spider woman, ensnaring men in her web, but when he thinks of molina in that delirious state he uses he/him and views her as a man (who enjoys being a woman i guess (does he think being a woman = being penetrated? probably)), but at the end he pictures her, the spider woman, as one of the beautiful divine cis women she spent soooo long lavishly describing, so really uh who can say. not me until the impressions settle)
