Katseye Masterlist
Video One: Try to Follow — 3.2 Million Views.
The studio smelled of cold coffee and floor disinfectant, that characteristic scent of a place that had seen too many rehearsals and too few overtime hours. You were leaning against the wall of mirrors, scrolling through your phone without paying much attention, when Lara showed up with that sparkle in her eyes of someone who was about to stir up trouble.
"Go on, go on, you two. Do the try to follow trend."
Daniela raised an eyebrow from across the room. She was wearing a black hoodie half-fallen off her shoulder, her brown hair tied up in a loose bun that was already losing the battle against gravity. She looked tired. She looked beautiful.
"If you mess up, I won't let you forget it." She said, and her voice came out lower than usual, almost a purr.
You laughed, already positioning yourself in front of her.
"And what if you're the one who messes up?"
"I won't."
Said like that, with that absolute certainty, it was almost arrogant. But coming from Daniela, it was just the truth.
The music started. You moved first, simple steps, a shoulder roll, your right hand rising and falling in a fluid gesture. You felt her presence behind you like a magnetic field, that silent thing Daniela had of occupying spaces without needing to make noise.
What you didn't see, but the video would later show, to 3.2 million people, was her face.
Daniela wasn't looking at your movements. She wasn't following your arms or your legs with that technical focus she had during the group's choreographies. She was looking at you. At the curve of your neck when you laughed at something Sophia shouted from off-frame. At the way your hair swayed. At the reflection of the two of you in the mirror ahead.
When the video ended, Lara lowered her phone with a strange expression.
"You two…" She started, but didn't finish.
Daniela was already reaching for her water bottle, the back of her neck slightly flushed.
"Did it turn out good?" You asked, innocent.
"It turned out…" Lara exchanged a glance with Megan, who had just walked in. "It turned out really good."
You didn't understand at the time. You would understand later, when the comments started popping up on TikTok.
"guys she didn't blink ONCE" "Daniela looking at Y/N like she hung the moon" "this is no longer friendship, I regret to inform you" "the look on her face at 0:07 seconds MY GOD"
—
Video Two: We Listen and We Don't Judge — 3.1 Million Views.
The hotel room in Dallas had horrible lighting and an air conditioner that rattled like a boat engine. You and Daniela were sitting on the bed, shoulder against shoulder, bare feet touching in the middle of the mattress.
"Should we do the trend?" You suggested, showing your phone. "We listen and we don't judge."
Daniela rolled her eyes, but it was an affectionate eye roll, the kind she only did with you.
"Fine. But you start."
You adjusted the phone propped up on the nightstand, pressed record, and took a deep breath.
"I sleep with socks on even in the summer."
Daniela blinked. Then let out a short laugh, the kind that shook her shoulders in an adorable way.
"That's horrible."
"We listen and we don't judge!" You protested, lightly slapping her arm.
"Okay, okay. My turn." She made a dramatic pause, looking at the camera. "I've been listening to the same three songs for months."
"Three?"
"Three."
"Daniela."
"We listen and we don't judge." She repeated, imitating your voice, and you laughed.
That's when it happened.
While you laughed, throwing your head back, the phone still recording, Daniela simply… stopped. Her smile didn't disappear, but it softened. Her brown eyes, which fans called siren eyes, got caught on you as if the rest of the world had gone into slow motion.
It took you three seconds to realize she was no longer participating in the game.
"Dani?"
"Hm?" She blinked, coming back. Her cheeks tinged pink. "Sorry. I got lost."
The video ended there. But fans would take screenshots of that exact frame, Daniela looking at you with an expression that left no room for interpretation.
"she literally forgot she was recording" "Y/N laughing and Dani looking at her like she's the most precious thing in the world I CAN'T HANDLE THIS" "look at second 0:03 and tell me this isn't love" "Daniela Avanzini completely IN LOVE and thinking no one notices"

Video Three: Beautiful Chaos Tour Chicago — 4.5 Million.
The show in Chicago was electric.
The United Center pulsed with eighteen thousand people screaming, the lights sweeping the stage in neon waves, the sound of the drums vibrating in your chest like a second heart. You were at the center of the stage, the mini vlog camera in your hand, trying to capture the crowd's energy for the tour videos.
"Chicago!" You shouted at the lens, laughing. "You guys are—"
The arm wrapped around your waist before you could finish.
It was a gesture you knew. You knew the weight, the temperature, the way the fingers spread across your hip as if they belonged there. Daniela fit herself behind you, her chin on your shoulder, her body warm against your back.
"Hi." She murmured, quietly, just for you.
You turned your face, surprised, and found her smile. That rare smile, the one that came slowly and lit up everything, the one fans called the sunshine smile.
The big screen captured everything.
Eighteen thousand people went wild.
You couldn't explain what you felt in that moment. The world stopped for a second, suspended between the deafening noise and the silence of Daniela's gaze. On the giant screen, the image of the two of you looked like a painting, Daniela with flushed cheeks, you with a mischievous smile, your bodies so close that you couldn't tell where one ended and the other began.
She ran her tongue between her lips, that gesture that made the audience scream, and you captured the image on the vlog camera.
Later, backstage, Sophia nudged you.
"Did you see the big screen?"
"I did." Your voice came out weaker than you would have liked.
"She doesn't do that with anyone else."
You knew. Of course you knew.
—
The moments piled up.
There was the time backstage in Los Angeles, when you were talking to Jun, one of the dancers on the crew, handsome, funny, and Daniela simply appeared. She didn't say anything, didn't ask permission, didn't give an explanation. She just leaned against your side and stayed there, her shoulder glued to yours, her dark eyes fixed on Jun's face as if saying she's not available without needing to move a single muscle in her mouth.
Jun understood before you did. He gave a weak smile, murmured something about going to check the wardrobe, and disappeared.
"What was that?" You asked, turning to Daniela.
"Nothing." She averted her gaze. "I just wanted to be here."
There was the time in the van, coming back from the show in Houston, when you fell asleep on her shoulder. You woke up forty minutes later with Daniela's fingers tracing distracted circles on your arm, the touch so light it felt more like breath than skin. She was looking out the window, the streetlights passing in flashes across her face, and you closed your eyes again just to feel it a little longer.
There was the time on Weverse, when a fan asked "which member makes you laugh the most?" and Daniela answered your name before you even opened your mouth. Too fast. Too sure.
"Y/N. Always."
There was the live with Manon and Megan, which you only saw later, because someone sent you the clip.
"Have you guys noticed how Dani sticks to Y/N?" Manon was saying, excited, her eyes shining with the look of someone who knew exactly what she was doing. "It's all the time. We get to the hotel, Dani already looks for where Y/N is. We go eat, she sits next to her. We're backstage, she stays behind Y/N like a… Ugh, how do you say it? A puppy?"
"Clingy," Megan completed, laughing.
"That! She turns into a clingy little puppy when Y/N is around. It's really cute, but it's also kind of funny, because Dani acts all tough and then Y/N shows up and she just melts."
The video went viral within hours. Daniela never mentioned the subject.
But you noticed that, in the following days, she became quieter. More restrained. As if she had been discovered and didn't know what to do with the exposure.
—
And then that night came.
It was late, truly late, one of those dead hours when not even the birds were awake yet. The hotel room in New York was identical to all the other hotel rooms on the tour, but it felt different. Maybe because of the yellowish light from the lamp. Maybe because of the silence. Maybe because Daniela was lying on your chest, her body tucked between your arms, her brown curls spreading like paint on your t-shirt.
You were scrolling through your TikTok feed without paying attention, the videos passing in a colorful blur. Your other hand was in her hair, your fingers gently scratching, feeling the soft texture of the strands. Daniela was playing with the bracelets on your wrist, the black leather one you never took off, the beaded one a fan had thrown onto the stage in Chicago, the silver one your grandmother gave you.
"You like this one." She murmured, touching the beaded one.
"I do."
"Why?"
"Because a fan made it. It has every tiny bead… It must have taken hours."
Daniela was silent for a moment. Her fingers still played with the bracelet, but you felt a subtle shift in her body. A tension. A hesitation.
"Can I ask you something?" Her voice came out lower.
"Of course."
Another pause. Longer.
"Have you noticed?" She asked, and there was something fragile in the way the words came out, as if she were walking on thin ice.
Your thumb stopped in her hair.
"Noticed what?"
Daniela didn't lift her face. She kept her head on your chest, her fingers now still on your wrist.
"That I…" She took a deep breath. "That I like you."
Her heart was racing. You could feel the beats echoing in your own body, at the point where her chest touched yours.
"Dani…"
"No." She cut in, but her voice wasn't harsh. It was almost a plea. "Let me talk. If I don't say it now, I'll never say it."
You stayed silent. Your hand started moving in her hair again, slowly, a silent encouragement.
"I like you." She repeated, and now her voice trembled a little. "It's not a friendship thing. It's not a 'oh, we're really close' thing. I like you. The way that makes my chest hurt when you laugh at something I said. The way I forget there's an audience when you're near. The way I have to hold myself back from doing this…"
She touched your wrist.
"…all the time."
The confession hung in the air like smoke. Daniela took another deep breath, and you felt her fingers lightly squeeze the leather bracelet.
"But I'm scared." She continued, and now her voice cracked. "Because if this ruins everything, if you don't feel the same way and things get weird between us, if I lose what we already have… I don't want that. I'd rather stay quiet. I'd rather just be your friend that people think is clingy. Because at least then I still have you."
Your heart ached. It ached in a good way, it ached in a way you couldn't name.
"But I can't pretend anymore." Daniela whispered. "Every time someone comments, every time people notice before you do, every time I see myself in a video and realize I'm looking at you like you're…" She stopped. "Like you're everything. Because you are. And I don't know what to do with that."
She finally lifted her face.
Daniela's eyes were shining, not from tears, but from something close. Raw vulnerability. Fear and hope mixed in a combination that made her face more beautiful than any illuminated stage.
"You don't have to say anything." She spoke quickly. "I just needed you to know. And if you don't feel the same, we can forget this conversation. I can forget. Or try to. I—"
You kissed her.
It was in the middle of the sentence, in the middle of the monologue, in the middle of the fear she was spilling out in hurried words. Your hand slid from her hair to the nape of her neck, pulling her close, and your mouth found hers in a kiss that interrupted everything, the words, the thoughts, time.
Daniela was paralyzed for a second. A whole second where the world stopped spinning.
And then she melted.
Her lips moved against yours as if they had waited for this their entire lives. The hand that was on your wrist rose to your face, her fingers spreading across your jaw, the touch so delicate it seemed like she was still afraid of breaking something.
When you pulled apart, just enough to breathe, Daniela's eyes were wide. Her lips, slightly parted. Her cheeks, completely red.
"You…" She started.
"Me too." You said, and your voice came out hoarse. "For a long time. A very long time."
"But you never…"
"I didn't know how." You laughed, a trembling laugh. "You're Daniela Avanzini. You're… you."
"I'm just a girl who looks at you too much in videos."
"You're the girl who looks at me like I'm the most precious thing in the world." Your thumb caressed her cheek. "And I'm the girl who finally had the courage to do something about it."
Daniela let out a laugh, a wet laugh, emotional, the most beautiful laugh you had ever heard. She let her forehead fall against yours, her eyes closed, her eyelashes brushing your skin.
"I thought you didn't feel the same." She whispered. "I thought I was going to ruin everything."
"You didn't ruin anything." You kissed the tip of her nose. "You just made me wait."
"Was it worth it?"
Instead of answering, you kissed her again. Slower this time. Deeper. Daniela's hands tangled in your hair, her body adjusting to yours as if it had finally found the right place.
Outside, New York shone with its thousands of lights. But inside that room, the only thing that mattered was the way Daniela smiled against your lips.
—
You woke up with the familiar weight on your chest.
Daniela was still there, exactly as she had fallen asleep, her head tucked between your neck and your shoulder, her curls tickling your chin, one of her hands splayed over your heart as if she wanted to feel every beat.
The morning light came in through the gaps in the curtain, painting golden stripes on her face.
You watched her for a while. At the dark eyelashes. At the lips still slightly swollen. At the expression of absolute peace she wore while she slept.
Your phone vibrated on the nightstand.
It was a Twitter notification. You opened it on instinct, the brightness of the screen making you squint.
It was an edit. Of course it was an edit. The fans never slept.
The video showed the two of you, the try to follow, the we listen and we don't judge, the stage moment in Chicago, the Weverse live. Scenes stitched together with a soft song in the background, each frame chosen with the precision of someone who knew exactly what they were looking for.
The caption read: "Daniela Avanzini completely in love with Y/N for 3 minutes and 47 seconds."
You smiled.
"So early?" Daniela's voice came sleepy, muffled against your neck.
"The eyekons made another edit."
"Hmm." She tightened her arm around your waist. "I bet it's obvious."
"It is."
Daniela lifted her head slowly, her eyes still half-closed, her hair completely messy. She looked at your phone screen, then at you.
"You know what I was thinking?"
"What?"
"That I don't need to hide anymore." She smiled, that rare smile, the one that lit up everything. "I can look at you as much as I want now."
You laughed, pulling her back into the embrace.
"You always could."
"But now you know."
"Now I know."
And when the phone vibrated again with more notifications, comments, likes, fans going crazy with the possibility that maybe, maybe, all of this was real, you set it aside.
Because Daniela was in your arms, her heart beating against yours, and the rest of the world could wait.
Hidden In Plain Sight
Info: Danielaxmascreader, katseye member reader
Summary: Daniela and Y/n have been dating secretly for a while now, all the members in katseye already now exempt the outside world. Daniela has had enough of Y/n being shipped with other celebrities, so she decided to soft launch her relationship in one single instagram story.
Keeping a relationship private sounded easy in theory.
In reality, it meant constantly thinking two steps ahead—making sure lingering glances weren't caught on camera, instinctively pulling your hand away before anyone else noticed, and pretending that the person you wanted to sit beside on every flight, every backstage couch, and every late-night car ride was simply another friend.
For Y/N and Daniela, that balancing act had become second nature.
The members of their group knew. In fact, they had known for months.
There was no dramatic announcement or tearful confession. One evening after practice, Lara had walked into the lounge and found Daniela asleep with her head resting on Y/N's shoulder while Y/N absentmindedly played with the ends of her hair. Lara had taken one look, smiled to herself, and quietly closed the door again.
The next morning, Megan cornered Y/N in the rehearsal room.
"So... are we all just pretending we didn't see that?"
Y/N had rubbed the back of her neck, trying not to smile.
"It was that obvious?"
Megan laughed.
"You've been obvious for weeks."
From then on, nobody questioned it.
The members simply adapted.
They made room for Daniela beside Y/N during movie nights, exchanged knowing looks whenever the two thought they were being subtle, and occasionally teased them whenever they accidentally mirrored each other's movements or reached for the same water bottle at exactly the same time.
The only people who didn't know were the millions of fans watching from the outside.
And that was intentional.
Their careers were still growing, and both of them preferred keeping something so personal away from endless speculation and online commentary. They wanted at least one part of their lives that belonged only to them.
For a while, it worked.
Until the edits started.
At first, they were harmless.
Compilation videos pairing Y/N with actresses she'd met at award shows.
Posts joking that she had chemistry with athletes after brief interactions.
Fan-made collages placing her beside influencers she'd spoken to for less than thirty seconds.
The members usually laughed them off.
Even Daniela managed to smile at the more ridiculous ones.
"Apparently you and Alexa Demie are secretly dating now," Sophia joked one afternoon while scrolling through her phone.
Y/N leaned over to look.
"I've literally met her once."
Daniela snorted.
"I'm pretty sure she has a boyfriend."
Exactly.
The internet loved making connections where none existed.
Most of the time it was easy to ignore.
But over the following weeks, the speculation intensified.
Every public appearance generated another wave of edits.
Every smile in an interview became "proof."
Every accidental interaction became a full-blown theory.
Soon there were entire accounts dedicated to convincing people that Y/N belonged with one celebrity or another.
One evening, after rehearsal had finally wrapped, the members collapsed around the practice room floor with takeout containers scattered between them.
Megan was halfway through a story when Daniela's expression changed.
She had opened another fan post.
This one read:
Y/N and Inde Navarrete would literally be the power couple of the decade. They look perfect together.
Beneath it were thousands of likes.
And thousands more comments agreeing.
Daniela didn't say anything.
She simply locked her phone.
Y/N noticed immediately.
"You okay?"
"I'm fine."
"You made that face."
"What face?"
"The jealous one."
Daniela looked at her with mock offense.
"I don't have a jealous face."
Across the room, Manon raised an eyebrow.
"You absolutely do."
Laughter rippled through the group, but Daniela only shook her head.
"I'm serious. I'm fine."
She wasn't.
Not because she believed the rumors.
She trusted Y/N completely.
What bothered her was seeing complete strangers confidently imagine futures for the person she loved while she had to quietly stand by and pretend none of it affected her.
Later that night, after everyone returned to the dorms, Daniela found herself curled up beside Y/N on the couch.
The television played quietly in the background, neither of them really watching.
Daniela rested her head against Y/N's shoulder.
"I know they're just fans."
"I know."
"And I know none of it's real."
"I know."
"But sometimes I wish people knew you're already taken."
Y/N smiled softly.
"You want to put up a billboard?"
Daniela laughed despite herself.
"No."
"A press conference?"
"No."
"A matching tattoo?"
"Tempting."
Y/N reached over and intertwined their fingers where nobody but the two of them could see.
"You know I only want you."
"I know."
"Then don't let edited pictures convince you otherwise."
Daniela looked down at their joined hands.
An idea quietly formed.
She didn't say it out loud.
Instead, she simply smiled.
Two days later, the group enjoyed a rare afternoon off.
They wandered through a quiet neighborhood café before taking a walk through a nearby park where, for once, there were almost no cameras around.
Daniela walked slightly ahead with Y/N.
When nobody else was paying attention, she reached back.
Without hesitation, Y/N slipped her hand into Daniela's.
Their fingers fit together naturally, as though they had done it a thousand times before.
Daniela looked down.
Then casually lifted her phone.
"Hold still."
Y/N frowned.
"For what?"
"I'm taking a picture."
"Of our hands?"
"Mhm."
She snapped it quickly.
The photo was simple.
No faces.
No identifying landmarks.
Just two hands intertwined beneath the afternoon sun.
Daniela's nails was unmistakable—soft neutral polish with delicate silver accents she'd shown off on her story only the day before.
Y/N's larger hand, lightly tanned and wearing the same rings fans had seen countless times during livestreams, rested comfortably around hers.
She posted it to her story with nothing more than a tiny white heart.
No caption.
No explanation.
Within minutes, the internet noticed.
At first, people assumed it was a friend.
Then they zoomed in.
Someone recognized Y/N's rings.
Another fan matched the bracelet on Y/N's wrist to one she'd worn in rehearsal footage posted the previous week.
Online forums exploded.
TikTok detectives zoomed in the image down frame by frame.
Entire threads appeared comparing hand shapes, jewelry, and clothing cuffs with archived photographs.
By the evening, hashtags were trending.
One post simply read:
"Tell me why I'm 99% sure Daniela is holding Y/N's hand?"
Another replied:
"I've been comparing rings for twenty minutes and I'm convinced."
The theories multiplied faster than anyone could count.
Back at the dorm, the members gathered around Sophia's laptop, reading the reactions with barely contained amusement.
Megan laughed so hard she had to wipe tears from her eyes.
"They're analyzing knuckles now."
Lara pointed at another comment.
"This person made a twelve-slide presentation."
Manon shook her head in disbelief.
"I've never seen detective work like this."
Daniela, sitting quietly beside Y/N, tried to hide the smile tugging at the corner of her mouth.
Y/N leaned close enough that only she could hear.
"So... was this your way of getting everyone to stop shipping me with other people."
Daniela's answer was almost inaudible.
"Maybe."
"And was it also your way of telling the world that I'm yours without actually saying it?"
She glanced sideways, cheeks warming.
"...Maybe."
Y/N chuckled under her breath before gently bumping their shoulders together.
"It worked."
Because for the first time in months, the internet wasn't talking about Y/N with actresses, influencers, or singers.
They were talking about one person.
Daniela.
And somewhere beneath all the speculation, edits, and theories, the two of them shared a private smile that said everything the photo hadn't.
Sometimes the loudest declaration of love wasn't a caption.
Sometimes it was just the quiet confidence of reaching for the right hand and letting the world figure out the rest.

AITA for exposing my girlfriend?
i (F20) have been with my girlfriend for a few years now, and we’ve been veryveryvery happy.
until last week.
we were having dinner with some friends and the conversation shifted into “who fell first.” before i could say anything or even make a small noise, i see her stupid finger point straight at me with LIGHTNING speed.
everybody nods, nobody defends me.
truthfully, i think she’s projecting. so i decided to sit her down a few days later and tell her she’s a hypocrite and that SHE (!!) is obsessed. i bring up these points:
every time a young gay person quits smoking or makes the decision that they want to quit, the sun shines on us all with the promise of happiness and beauty.
i appreciate everybody that’s sharing the sentiment that it’s good for anyone to quit smoking (it is) but i very specifically wanted to highlight and encourage LGBTQ youth because lesbian, gay, and bisexual people are about 1.5 to 2.5 times more likely to smoke cigarettes than heterosexual people, and the statistics for transgender people are even higher than cisgender people. this is due to tobacco companies marketing heavily and aggressively to LGBTQ communities and exploiting the higher rates of mental health struggles prevalent in our communities.
i want and hope to see all my LGTBQ people live long, healthy, fulfilled lives despite how predatory and punishing this world can be. you should stay around as long as you can to make it a little better in your own way.

love from afar (pt.1) — daniela avanzini
summary: daniela is one of the most popular girls at school, and you’ve been painfully in love with her from a distance since the start. when you get paired together in a class project, things changes.
warnings: angst (with eventual fluff), slowburn, yearning, popular! dani x loser!femreader trope.
a/n: does anyone want the next part? 😛
i mostly wrote this for an anon (thank you for the request i hope you like it!! i’m sorry it took me this long to finish) and @luluvrs <33
you fall in love with daniela on a casual weekday.
it’s not dramatic. it’s not sudden. it builds up quietly, achingly.
it starts in the first week of university. you notice her in your psychology class laughing with her friends, hazel eyes lighting up with happiness and thick curls falling over her shoulders.
you told yourself it was just a small crush. that it would go away in a few days or weeks.
unfortunately ever since you’ve only fell deeper, sitting three rows behind her in class and having to watch her from afar.
even if you’ve never actually talked with her, you still felt like you already knew her.
from the start you’ve felt her presence draw you in, and you’ve noticed everything. how she makes everyone smile and feel included. how she speaks to others like she genuinely cares. how she holds the door open for everyone.
daniela knew everyone, and got invited everywhere. she was popular, but not in that mean way people can expect. she’s kind and sweet in a way that makes your chest feel too full.
you were the complete oposite: mostly focused on school, pretty awkward and shy in social situations, and you didn’t have too many friends.
to you it wasn’t a big deal. you liked the quiet life you had built.
until it came to daniela. she was the exception.
for once in your life it wasn’t enough to love someone like this. you wanted daniela to notice you.
—
your professor announces the project at the best possible time. only three weeks into the semester.
“in the next classes you’ll work on a project that’s gonna be presented by the end of next month. it’s a good opportunity to show competence and get to know each other better. you’ll work in pairs, i’ll choose them.” he informs casually.
your heart starts beating faster at that. you’ve never really liked group projects, mostly having to do all the work every time.
“y/n… and daniela.”
it feels like everything stops. your eyes widen, suddenly awfully aware of what this could mean.
daniela turns in her seat, scanning the room. her hazel eyes land on you.
to your surprise, she smiles. it’s small. polite. curious. it feels like being struck by lightning.
the first time you actually speak to her, is only a few days later. your voice trembles.
“hi.” you barely manage.
“hi.” she says back, softer than you expected. up close, she smells like something clean and warm. like laundry and vanilla.
“uhm… i guess we’re partners.” you mumble a bit awkwardly.
“i guess we are.” she smiles again, and it’s not the distant smile she gives acquaintances. it’s focused. it’s for you.
your chest aches. don’t read into it. don’t make this into something it’s not.
still, the feeling only grows stronger when you start studying together every day.
library afternoons. coffee runs. shared google docs. she starts saving you a seat in class. you start texting about the project, and then about other things.
she asks you questions about the project, about your major, about where you’re from. and she listens. really listens. nodding. maintaining eye contact like what you’re saying matters.
you’re not used to that. you’re used to fading into the background. being the quiet one. the sweet one. the easy one. but daniela treats your words like they’re something to hold.
—
the worst is when you start noticing more the way other people look at her.
the way a girl from her friend group loops an arm through hers. the way a guy in class leans a little too close when he talks to her. the way she smiles at them: warm, easy, effortless.
the same way she smiles at you. that’s the worst part, because she’s kind to everyone. you’re not special.
you try to remind yourself of that when she texts you at midnight and asks if you’re awake.
when you’re on call, and she whispers sleepily “i don’t know what i’d do without you”.
it never works. because how are you supposed to react, when what you feel is anything but casual?
—
it’s worse when the project presentation creeps closer, because this has an expiration date. you both know it.
once the class ends, what reason will she have to keep choosing you? she has friends. options. a life that doesn’t revolve around library tables and shared deadlines.
you have her. you hate how unbalanced and unfair that feels, even though you shouldn’t expect anything.
the night before you present, you’re both still in the library. it’s nearly empty.
she looks tired. her hair is messy. she’s wearing one of those oversized sweaters again, sleeves covering half her hands.
“can i be honest?” she asks suddenly.
your heart stutters. “yeah.” you nod.
“i was kind of nervous when i saw we were paired up.” she admits.
“oh.” you swallow.
“not in a bad way.” she rushes. “i just… i didn’t know you. and you’re quiet. i thought maybe you didn’t like me.”
“what?” you blink.
“you never talked to me. i figured i was just… not your type of person.” she shrugs, looking almost shy.
the irony is cruel. you’ve loved her in silence for weeks and she thought you disliked her.
“i didn’t talk to you because i was nervous.” you admit softly.
“nervous? why?” she asks, confused.
because you’re everything. because you’re bright and kind and i don’t know how to stand next to you without feeling small. you want to say it all, but it sounds stupid. too vulnerable admitting to someone you barely know.
“i’m just bad at starting conversations.” you say instead. it isn’t a lie, just not the whole truth either.
she studies you for a long moment. really studies you, like she’s doubting if you’re telling the truth.
“i’m glad we got paired up.” she says finally.
“me too.” you smile, even though it hurts.
—
presentation day comes and goes in a blur. the both of you wait outside the lecture room, your hands shaking slightly. you hope daniela doesn’t notice.
you both do well. the professor praises your analysis. she squeezes your arm when you sit down.
“we killed that.” she whispers, grinning. you pretend your chest doesn’t tighten at that.
after class, people crowd around her. congratulating. laughing. pulling her into their circle again.
you stand there awkwardly for a second too long before slipping out quietly. you don’t expect her to notice.
“hey!” you hear behind you. she’s jogging to catch up, bag bouncing against her hip.
“you were just going to leave?” she asks, trying to hide the disappointment in her voice.
“i figured you were busy.” you shrug lightly.
“i’m not too busy for you.” she frowns. it’s such a simple sentence, but it undoes you.
you look at her. for a terrifying second, you consider telling her everything. how you’ve been in love with her since the second week of class. how every smile feels like falling in love with her all over again. how you don’t know how to go back to being strangers. but the fear is louder than longing.
“so…” she says, a little softer now. “just because the project’s done doesn’t mean we stop talking. right?”
your heart feels like it’s gonna beat out of your chest. she’s giving you an opening to talk more and become a part of her life, instead of feeling invisible all the time.
“yeah… right.” you say with a short nod.
and this time, when she smiles, it feels different. not distant, not polite, but almost hopeful.

Part 1 (the prologue): i've been falling in bad habits, staring into the abyss
Y/N
Y/N was just a teenage girl trying to survive her senior year when her whole life flipped on its head. Between late-night study sessions, part-time shifts, and the occasional casual performance out on the streets of Vancouver, she never thought her music was much more than a hobby. Then one night, she posted a quick rap cover on a whim, it wasn’t supposed to be serious, just her bedroom and a gaming mic propped up on a stack of textbooks. She went straight to sleep soon after and she'd practically forgotten about it already. By morning, her phone was literally exploding, so much that the notifications had woken her up. Her sharp flow, soft tone, and unmistakable charm caught people’s attention. A few more covers later, she went semi-viral. Her rap covers always got over 100k likes, her occasional song covers pulled in even more, and if she was being honest, her looks probably didn’t hurt either.
Before she could even blink, she’d gained nearly a million followers and started to dream about what it might feel like to make it big one day. Still, she’d never imagined herself in a group, let alone the first global girl group to follow the k-pop training methodology. The closest Y/N had gotten to K-pop was knowing a few BTS and Blackpink songs, maybe one dance challenge. So when she’d received a dm for “HYBE” on a random February evening, she assumed it was a scam- maybe a really weird joke. That was until she looked deeper into it and realized it was real. Somehow, she was being scouted for a global girl group.
She’d literally just turned 18, still trying to figure out what to do after graduation, when everything suddenly became real. She found herself sitting on the couch with her parents, rereading the DM over and over, still convinced it was an elaborate prank. Her dad just squinted at her phone, while her mom alternated between disbelief and excitement. Before Y/N could even process it all, there were hundreds of phone calls, Skype meetings, and an official contract sitting in her email inbox.
The decision came fast, faster than she was ready for. Within a week, Y/N had withdrawn from her high school to finish the school year online. One day she was laughing with her friends in the cafeteria, the next she just… stopped showing up. No goodbyes, she couldn’t even explain what was happening. A few texts here and there, “I’ll tell you everything soon, promise.” But she knew things would never go back to how they were.
She’d sacrificed her friends for this, her life, no one but her parents knew what was happening. No one understood. But Y/N couldn’t shake the feeling that this might be her one shot to pursue music, making it big.
In two weeks, she was dragging her heavy suitcase through the YVR Airport, head so full she could barely hear the boarding announcements. The city she’d grown up in, her friends, her school, her comfort zone… It all disappeared beneath the clouds as the plane took off. By the time she landed in Los Angeles, it felt like she’d stepped into a new universe.
Almost immediately, an Uber was sent to pick her up from the airport. The warmth of LA hit her the moment she stepped outside- a sharp contrast to Vancouver’s cold February air. Everything felt different here. In what felt like the blink of an eye, she’d dropped her suitcase off at the shared trainee house and was already on her way to her first practice.
The studio looked like a regular office building, but inside, it was alive. Music pulsed through the walls and a dozen different accents filled the air. Y/N clutched her bag a little tighter, walking with wide eyes. In this studio were nineteen other girls sharing the same impossible dream, and now somehow she was one of them.
She didn’t know where to go first, until a voice broke through all the noise.
“Hey! Welcome to the program. I’m Sophia- it’s super nice to meet you.” Y/N blinked, pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome. “It’s Y/N right?”
And of course, Y/N was even more surprised that Sophia had already known her name “Yeah- it is,” Y/N said, matching her smile. “Nice to meet you too, Sophia.”
Sophia tilted her head, studying her with kind eyes. “So- how are you feeling? I know this can all be a little scary at first.”
“Definelty nervous,” Y/N admitted with a small laugh. “You know, since I feel like I’m the only newbie here, everyone already looks so settled.”
Sophia chuckled softly. “Oh, I get that, but don’t worry, no one's going to judge you for being new. I can introduce you to the others if you’d like! Let me be your first friend here.”
Y/N could feel a little bit of tension leaving her body. “You really don’t have to do that, but thank you. Seriously.”
“Too late,” Sophia said playfully, pulling her into a quick hug. “You’re stuck with me now.” Y/N couldn’t help but laugh.
Sophia pulled back with a grin. “I can already tell, you’re gonna be great competition.”
“Guess we’ll see about that.” Y/N said, feeling a weight being lifted off her shoulders.
After Sophia’s welcome, the rest of the introductions came in a blur. One by one, all the girls gathered around Y/N.
There was Manon who turned out to be a mutual from TikTok, they both laughed in disbelief when they realized. Then Adela who was friendly, but intimidating enough to make Y/N straighten her posture, and Megan who gave a quick “Hi!” before darting off into a practice room.
Everyone had seemed so sure of themselves. They already had inside jokes, shared routines, and even a way they moved through the space. Y/N smiled and nodded through the small talk, but deep down, she couldn’t truly shake the feeling that she’d accidentally stumbled into someone else’s world.
When she’d finally met all the girls, she took a quiet breath, glancing around the room. Mirror lined the walls, the scent of sweat and perfume mixing in the air. It was overwhelming, scary, and exciting all at the same time.
And then, the front door opened again.
The room seemed to still for a second as everyone’s attention shifted. A girl walked in, honey brown skin glowing under the lights of the studio, moon boots making her taller than she probably was, a fur skirt swaying as she moved. A small, intricate bindi adorned on her forehead, she wore her culture loud and proud and every movement exuded confidence. Y/N’s chest tightened, a flutter she hadn’t felt in a long time.
“Hi- sorry I’ve been walking around trying to find this place forever. Is this the right place for trainees?” the girl asked, glancing around.
“Yes it is! Welcome,” Sophia said, motioning her inside.
Sophia leaned toward Y/N, whispering with a teasing grin “Looks like you’re not the only ‘newbie’ here.”
Y/N’s eyes locked on the girl. Her smile was small but warm, and Y/N felt a jolt through her whole body. Her stomach did flips, her fingers tingled, and suddenly the room felt too small. Her heart was pounding so fast, she was almost sure it was loud enough for everyone else to hear.
When the girl introduced herself, her voice was smooth and confident, “I’m Lara, and you?”
Y/N didn’t even realize Lara was talking to her until Sophia gave her a polite nudge. She was caught off guard, cheeks heating up, her voice a pitch too high, “Oh- um, I’m Y/N.”
Their eyes lingered for a little too long, long enough to make Y/N’s pulse stutter. She felt warm all over, her mind buzzing in a way she couldn’t explain. But before long someone from management called for their attention. And just like that the moment was over. Y/N’s heart was still racing, her mind replaying Lara’s smile. Yeah, she was definitely in trouble.
