This is not a drill. I’ve finally managed to update Vermilion! There’s a recap at the beginning of the chapter on AO3 and FFN because I’m sure most people have forgotten a good chunk of the story by now lol.

Hey everyone, Nyxako here!
I’m sorry for the radio silence. A lot of things were going on in my life (new job, moved, health stuff, broke up with my boyfriend of six years, moved again) but I’ve finally gotten to a place in my life where I’ve been able to write more often.
Which means: Yes, I WILL be updating Vermilion soon.
I’ve also been writing other things too, though, and I’ll be posting those along with new Vermilion chapters.
I’ve got another KakaSaku fic, some BNHA Kacchako fics, a Mystic Messenger fic planned for the future, and a few Dragon Age fics that I will be posting on my AO3 pseudo, ForbiddenOasis.
I’m so excited to finally be able to post for you guys again soon ;o;

You’re taking FREE works off AO3 and profiteering off the work of writers who get no money from this app. You’ve stolen their work and are illegally displaying their content, violating DCMA and copyright laws not just of the writers but of the studios/corporations who own the characters. App users, save your money and conscience by using the FREE and properly credited AO3 website.
AO3 does not have the money or resources to focus on building ‘official apps’ because one would need to be custom-created for each platform, so they focus on making the website work well on mobile platforms. The iPhone UnofficialApp has to abide by Apple App Store censorship rules, including suppressing certain kinds of fic based only on content tags without regard to how that content is handled within the story. (Check this person’s blog to see what their limitations are.) They are also charging $0.99 a month for the ‘privilege’ to read FREE content that is already accessible to everyone. This is not what fan culture is about. We don’t steal each others’ work or try to profit off stolen work.
Save your time and energy and go straight to the source: AO3. The mobile website works just fine and you have access to all of your regular account perks, including bookmarks, making collections, and more. There’s no need to rely on third parties who profit off fanworks and abide by anti-free-speech censorship rules.

Hello everyone, Nyxako here. I just wanted to make a short announcement to say that I’m alive!
Things have been getting better and I’ve finally been able to find time to write, which of course means that Vermilion will be starting up again! I’m not sure when exactly it’ll be, but my goal right now is to be able to start posting again by October 31st (so Halloween for the people who celebrate it).
I’m estimating that there should be 11 chapters left, so it’ll be a total of 40. I’ll try to write a short recap of everything that’s happened before I actually post the next chapter, and I’ll have it here on Tumblr–mostly because it feels weird to post it as a chapter on ao3 and ffn.
(In addition, I’ve been working on another BNHA fic and I’ve started writing Dragon Age fic, but I refuse to post those until I’ve started up Vermilion again.)

Sometimes fanfiction is a love letter to the original canon, sometimes it’s just that one telegram that says “Fuck you. Strongly worded letter to follow”.

Hi! I have a little bit of a problem. I love to write fics and to plan new stories but it always happens that I don't know how to start to write! I have a slight idea of how I want to start but then I can't write it. Can you give me some advice? Thank you in advance!
I can think of two reasons for this problem:
1. You haven’t thought your idea through enough to start writing it. If you don’t have a clear enough idea of what the story is, you’ll find it really difficult to get it down on paper. Spend some more time thinking about it, outlining it, talking about it to other people. When you have a better picture in your head about what the story actually is, you’ll find it a lot easier to start.
2. You’re trying to start it in the wrong place. Either you need to write a later part of the story before you can be sure of what to write before it or you’re too preoccupied with background information that isn’t really necessary and is keeping you from diving into the action. I find it really helpful to just dive right in (in media res, if you want technical terms)
Let’s see what advice the rest of the blog has, shall we?
My advice would be to NOT try to “write”, not at first. What I do when I can’t figure out where to start, is I look at all my ideas and then just start typing out my thoughts. I’ll open up a doc and talk to myself about it on the page, full on conversations, and then once I have a basic idea of where to start I’ll just start spamming with things like “okay so maybe this happens, and this person reacts like this and says this, then they do this and make sure to describe this here” without bothering to make it sound good. Then later I go in and organize some inconsistencies that inevitably happen like that, and before I know it, I’ll have a basic outline to start from when I start to ACTUALLY write and make things sound pretty.
Granted, this may not work for everyone, but I find it easier to start when I just throw words into a doc and don’t have to worry about it sounding good.
