The Clip Studio Asset challenge theme going on right now is “chains”, I’d been meaning to make some chain brushes anyway for optimizing Pipeburn so I don’t need to ink every individual link in every panel like I did last time and decided to actually enter for once. I made a set of set-dressing chains with varying levels of detail to be layered through Foreground, middle ground, and background in scenes, as well as some various jewelry and machine chains. They’re all free for whoever wants them, but if you download/like/share you can help increase my chances of winning some Clippy!

i cant believe i draw w all this shit around

i remembered clip studio has 3d models so i bought it to try it out let me tell u i got SO PISSED cuz when i downloaded the models they didnt show up in the download folder and i had to spend like 30 mins fiddling around in the asset thing to find the dam files but eventually i got it to work but when i imported to canvas THE MODEL DIDNT HAVE ANY SHADING FOR SOME REASON so i had to google for another 15 mins how to enable light source or whatever and they kept telling me to "go into x settings and click x thing" but i was like ok where is THAT and i had to google WHERE IS X TAB IN CSP argggh ok so finally i got the light n shadows to work,,,,, BUT POSING THE MF WAS SO HARD LMFAO i just wanted to rotate it 360 tell me why the whole perspective was moving and the 3d man was doing a somersault thru the air help.. i was getting MAD but thats my fault for not knowing how to use cps i only had myself to blame L! U-U

so first things first i was gonna give her a shirt for real, it was even in the sketch but as i was lining it i realized to the surprise of absolutely no one i liked 🅱️🅾️🅾️🅱️💲 a little too much LOL like LEMME SEE ALL THAT👀

i literally do not kno why there are 3-4 layers of pants under hanbok🤔 see more here &here (both eng resources, second one has a lot on diff types of hanbok, u gotta scroll down to see the inner layer stuff)

they are crotchless / open pants but still WHY? seems like it'd be hard to go pee🤨 honestly i prefer skirts for volume, my oc is not wearing 3 layers of pants No thank U wtf lol actually this reminded me of when i was in elementary skool, in the winter my grandma tried to get me to wear leggings under jeans cuz it was cold which is great in theory but i hated the feeling like weird sensory issues of 2 pants, i wonder if it would be similar >_< when u do hanbok rental nowadays they dont give u pants, u just wear a bunch of skirts

aaand here are the refs i used for the bg stuff

completely obsessed with the patterned blankets and the cylindrical pillows with the tassels. also just love the look of woodblock prints in general, the flatness of it rly lets the color choice & patterns shine. it kinda looks simple at first glance but is actually so sophisticated ^_T💕 i do have a love & hate relationship w rendering but lately my line quality has been looking real seck see (to me :3c) so i dont even wanna paint on it, only colors + gradients :P if theres gonna be no rendering / blending / shadows then you have to express planes and surface shapes with lines or hatching and i think looking at detailed manga is rly helpful, i've been going to sun ken rock (boichi) which is uh. rly something. lol. i totally get all the criticism for it lmfao💀 but i like his linework wat can i say. especially on the collarbones, back of elbows and knees >_<

and stuff by ikegami ryoichi, takehiko inoue, & hirohiko araki. everyone knows slam dunk & vagabond & jjba like the very detailed artwork but i didnt kno ikegami ryoichi until i watched the urasawa naoki manben docu series (very good i recommend :P) i rly like how he draws faces! the hatching for form & shadows can get very very detailed😵‍💫

closing thoughts, a few yrs ago i watched this film which is historical ish, set in 30s-40s hong kong / shanghai, i dont 100% remember what exactly happens, its political spy stuff + doomed romance (??)

anyways there were some spicy scenes 👉👌 but the important point is they put armpit hair on the mc lady👀 let me tell u, i've never seen that in any movie / drama / tv show, i was impressed‼️ and i was certain women back in the day (like 700s-1300s specifically) were not shaving body hair (doesnt sound right at all) but when i did some digging around on google, results were actually inconclusive - but possibly leaning towards "no" ? 🤔 i was even looking up edo & joseon era shunga / chunhwa which is. sort of like a primary source i guess. they were generous with the bush but not rly anythin on armpits i wonder if they were too lazy to draw it or it was too insignificant or smth, or maybe another reason, cuz if my ancestors were actually shaving their pits during the 10th century that is nuts🥜🌰 i cannot believe it lol. idk, historical setting & armpit hair just feels right together 🫶🏻
