I DO NOT CONDOME AI TO BE USED ON MY WORK!
“I don’t see why I have to go.”
“You’re coming with me to the door.”
“That’s not the same thing.”
I crossed my arms, trying to show to Diana that I’m dramatically unimpressed, as Diana guided me up the steps of a very plain looking house.
Way too plain for my liking.
No marble columns. No training grounds. No ancient statues watching your every move.
And a ridiculously hideous porch mat.
“I can stay on Themyscira, with granny Hippolyta” i tried once again to change Diana her mind on me staying there for the day. “I can train. Or read. Or… just not be here.” i tried to plead to my mother.
Diana, however, was not fooled.
“You enjoy staying here.” Diana mused again, trying to convince me to stay.
“I enjoy visiting her, yes. Does that mean I like to visit him, no.” I corrected immediately.
I do not want anyone to think that I would actually enjoy being in the presence of a boy. Just the thought alone makes my skin crawl.
That earned the faintest hint of a smile. Remembering all the times I would actively express my frustrations on the male species. Making it more funny when you actively remember I’m only five years old.
And before Diana could scold with something like “I shouldn’t judge a whole species just because of some bad fish”, the door swung open.
One of my favourite people around.
“reader!” Lois beamed, crouching slightly to my height, making it seem as if she was greeting royalty in which, honestly, felt correct.
My whole demeanour changed instantly. Forgetting that just a second ago I was prepared to cuss out the whole male species again.
“Auntie Lois!” i said, my whole body lighting up as i rush forward to give her a hug.
Lois caught me easily, laughing softly as she hugged me back.
“Well, aren’t you getting taller every time I see you?” she joked.
“I am,” i nodded seriously. “It’s training.”
I take my training very seriously, it’s my only way to show Diana that I am prepared for anything.
Behind us, Diana calmly watched, clearly pleased with how I’m interacting with Lois.
“She has been looking forward to this,” Diana said.
“I can tell,” Lois replied warmly, setting me back down but keeping a hand on my shoulder keeping me close, making sure I don’t trouble.
Because for me, Auntie Lois is everything I want to be in the future, other than my mother: strong, smart, and perfect.
A voice I absolutely despise…
cuts me away from the fantasy of me in the future I was having in my head.
Because everyone knew what was about to happen.
Looking… excited to have seen me.
“Oh cool, it is you,” Jon said, running closer. “Hey, reader! How have you been?”
He asked excitedly, he genuinely thought it would be a while before he saw me again.
Considering last time, i locked him in his room when Lois left me alone with him in his room for one minute so she could make something for us to eat.
Afterwards when they found Jon locked in his room alone, with me nowhere in sight, I had a long scolding from both Lois and Diana.
Deeply disappointed in the universe.
“…Hello,” I said flatly. I knew better to say something before I got scolded again. Ignoring his question on how I been doing.
She could see the way I was desperately trying to keep my composure and Jon was blissfully unaware of how I truly was feeling.
Diana definitely noticed.
“reader,” Diana said gently, “you will be spending the day here while I attend to League matters.”
“Reader” she repeated my name clearly, scolding me.
“I know,” i said quickly, my eyes still locked on Jon like he personally offended my intelligence.
“I expect you to be respectful and nice.”
“I’m always respectful and nice...”
Jon perked up trying to defend me from Diana. “Yeah, she’s-”
“-to Auntie Lois,” i finished pointedly.
Lois coughed to hide a smile.
Diana, however, was not fooled.
“Ugh… fine I will behave,” i said, clearly annoyed on how the day was turning out to be.
Diana studied me for a moment.
She knelt, adjusting my sleeve gently.
“I will try return before nightfall.”
“I’ll be fine you don’t have to worry about me.”
She pressed a brief kiss to my forehead, grounding me.
“To you as well,” she said to Lois.
Lois smiled. “She’s in good hands.”
Diana glanced once more at me.
Jon straightened instinctively.
“I’ll..uh.. will make sure she won’t get in trouble,” he quickly said. He always was nervous when standing in front of Diana.
But she didn’t object either.
i immediately moved closer to Lois.
Jon however remained where he was.
“…So,” he tried, “what do you wanna do? We could play with my Lego’s if you want.”
i however didn’t even look at him.
“I am talking to Auntie Lois.”
“I’m still here, you know.”
“I know,” i said sweetly, turning back to Lois. “Can I help you with anything?” I asked, wanting to make myself helpful.
Confused on what he meant.
i tilted my head, as if the answer was obvious.
“You’re a boy.” I said as if it’s the most obvious thing in the whole entire universe.
Jon stared at me, confused.
Lois pressed her lips together, trying very hard not to laugh.
“Okay,” Jon said slowly, “but… I didn’t even do anything.”
“That’s exactly the problem.”
“It- how does that make sense.”
I sighed, this was getting exhausting.
This was only taking more time from me spending time with auntie Lois.
“You’re loud. And you talk too much. And you stand weird.”
Jon looked down at himself.
“…how is me standing weird?”
“Because you stand like you’re about to say something.”
“I am about to say something!”
“Yes. Exactly, that is weird.”
Lois turned away slightly.
I turned to look at Lois, wanting to make this whole conversation over.
“Don’t bring me into this,” Lois said immediately, still smiling.
“No I’m not, I’m just honest.”
Looking at me more carefully now.
“…Why don’t you like boys?” he asked, quieter this time. Clearly upset about this whole conversation.
“I just don’t,” I quickly said.
But before he could say something that would definitely cause a fight from breaking out.
“Alright,” she said brightly, stepping between us. “New rule.”
Both of us looking at her.
“You’re going to get along today.”
“No,” i said immediately, standing up scared.
“Yes!” Jon said at the same time, standing up excited.
Lois pointed at Jon. “Good start.”
I hate not being able to be good at something.
“You can behave and be nice.”
“…That sounds unnecessary.”
“Yeah, reader.” Looking smug before adding. “You can behave and be nice.”
This was going to be a long day.
Meanwhile, Wonder Woman had just returned to her mission at the Watchtower.
The Watchtower was quieter than usual.
The monitors hummed softly as data streamed steadily across their screens. Beyond the glass, the vast curve of Earth slowly turned.
Wonder Woman stood near the central table, finishing her report.
“…and the situation has stabilized,” she concluded. “There should be no further disturbances along the river in the Amazonian rainforest.”
Across from her, Batman gave a single nod.
Then, without looking up from the data in front of him.
Diana didn’t need clarification.
She folded her hands behind her back.
Batman’s eyes lifted slightly.
That word choice didn’t go unnoticed.
Diana considered her answer for a second.
“She is intelligent,” she said. “Quick to learn. Observant. Her control has improved in some areas.”
“She is developing a sense of… confidence.”
Batman’s expression didn’t change.
“Confidence?” he repeated.
That got a reaction but not from him.
Superman let out a quiet laugh.
“Yeah,” he said, leaning back slightly. “That tracks.”
Superman smiled, a little sheepish now.
“Jon has mentioned a few… interactions.”
Diana frowned lifted slightly.
Clark rubbed the back of his neck.
“Well—uh—about a month ago…”
“She locked him in his room.”
She wasn’t shocked at what she was hearing.
Clark continued, trying and failing to not sound amused.
“Apparently he was about to spread more of his boy germs and she…uh…decided that was unacceptable.”
Diana closed her eyes briefly.
She had multiple conversations with reader on as to why that behaviour is unacceptable.
Batman, however, looked entirely unsurprised.
“Effective containment,” he said.
“That’s what you took from that?”
“She has developed… a strong bias.”
“That’s sure one way to put it,” Clark muttered.
Batman’s gaze returned to Diana.
“Residual instinct. Fragmented memory. And… interpretation.”
Superman’s expression softened slightly.
“Not clearly,” Diana said. “But enough to influence her perception.”
“And she’s directing that toward-”
“Men,” Diana finally confirmed.
“She was shaped by conflict,” Batman said. “Bias is a predictable outcome.”
“That doesn’t mean we ignore it.”
“We don’t,” Batman replied. “We document it.”
Diana’s gaze sharpened slightly.
“My daughter is not a case study.”
“She is both” Batman said.
Diana didn’t argue further.
But he also wasn’t right either.
Superman stepped in, softer now.
“She’ll grow out of it,” he said, trying to diffuse the situation “Jon’s… a lot. It’s not entirely her fault.”
“…He keeps trying to be her friend.”
Diana’s expression shifted slightly at that.
Because even if she won’t admit she is worried that her daughter would end up lonely.
So she is thankful to Jon for despite everything still trying to be her friend.
“She does not make that easy.”
Batman tapped something on the console, pulling up a new file.
“I still require a full documentation of her abilities,” he said.
Diana looked back at him.
“I will need direct observation.”
“Bring her to the Batcave in one week.”
“Oh, that’s gonna go great.”
“She does not respond well to interrogation.”
“This isn’t interrogation.”
“It will feel like it to her.”
Batman finally turned fully toward her.
“She influenced multiple individuals unintentionally.”
“She is powerful and we still don’t know what she can do.”
“And she is under my care, i will take care of it.”
“I’m not questioning that.”
“Then do not treat her as a threat.”
“I treat everything as a potential threat.”
“That includes children?”
“That includes anything capable of causing harm.”
“…Maybe we ease into the whole Batcave thing,” he suggested carefully. “You know. Less… interrogationy. More… visit?”
Batman didn’t look at him.
“She will come,” he said.
Diana studied him for a long moment.
Batman inclined his head slightly.
“No treating her as anything less than what she is.”
“A child trying to choose who she will become.”
Clark let out a quiet breath.
“Okay. Good. That sounds… manageable.”
Batman returned his attention to the screen.
“Next week,” he repeated.
But her thoughts were already elsewhere.
Where a five year old girl was likely making someone’s life very difficult.
