【Truth was something frequently shrouded with the ideals that ignorance was bliss. Peko was not raised to believe it— thus, she always spoke quite honestly. Cushioning blows for the sake of someone else’s comfort was something she had never been able to do. She was socially inept— unskilled at keeping the peace in the most dire of situations. While she could keep her head, it did not mean that everyone else could. When the inquiry of a plan came from his lips, she set her gaze downcast at the dashboard in front of her. Expression dully robotic in its’ being as she moved a hand to push the wireframe lenses of her glasses, adjusting them to sit in their proper place. If he had been a classmate, perhaps she would have attempted some words of motivation— crafting a demeanor of nervousness in the fact that they might face death. This, however, was an important endeavor. Therefore, her composure as a tool was of utmost significance.】
"Tools are incapable of making plans, for we only follow orders. Aside from escorting and protecting you, I wasn’t given order. I have been properly trained to be utilized in such a situation, however.
If our lives should come to be in danger, I will improvise as seen fit. I was ordered to keep you safe, thus that is what I intend to do.
And I will not allow myself to fail. There is no plan. We simply need to find the artifact and return with our lives.”
【She had someone she needed to come home to, after all. For she did not want to be replaced with someone else. It, perhaps, was the one very selfish thought that encouraged her to keep moving forward.】
Of course not, because that would only be too convenient. He was above disappointment, above shock at this point. He'd need to remain that way or Makoto was sure he would lose his mind working this job.
Taking the next turn, "Well... alright, if you say so. I don't really have much of a choice than to trust you, right? I'll try not to cause you much trouble; after we find the artifact I'll stay out of your way." It would be best to leave her to her work, the less distracted Pekoyama was the safer the both of them would be. "And the sooner we find the damn thing, the sooner we can both go home."
That-- that, he was looking forward to.
It was quiet for a while after that. Makoto took that time to completely ignore the part of his brain that insisted he think this through, try to avoid the worst-case scenario. The worst-case scenario that could have been a multitude of things, all of which ended with his inescapable death. It's understandable, that I want to avoid this topic.
"... How did you guys know that I knew where to find this thing, anyway? I don't think I've met any of you before."
yeah, so ive decided that it is indeed a semi-hiatus

"It…r-reminds of the gastric processes that decompose the food in our s-stomach, then…" Fukawa theorized, although her words were distant as her focus stayed mainly on the tray of cookies. Their sweet aroma wafted through the room, and admittedly, it wasn’t an entirely unpleasant aroma. She’d go as far as to say that, despite the fact that she didn’t have much of an appetite for sweets, had someone she trusted presented the cookies to her she would have consumed them with only a few moments’ pause. "W…Water and food were not meant to mix after the fact…"
A cloth. A cloth to place the cookie sheet down on? Wouldn’t that simply burn it, too? Fukawa seemed to recall simply placing the cookie sheet on the metal racks atop the stove- certainly, the metal fixtures were used to getting warm, and would cause no problems- and did as she believed was right, although feeling a momentary twinge of guilt for electing to choose her way instead for no discernible reason other than a simple regret for disobeying someone who only had good intentions, as silly as it was. Atop the stove, she peered at them for another moment before glancing back at Naegi, and then, with a spark of remembrance, glancing back to the counter, towards the sugary sprinkles in a container.
His smile turned into something of a grimace, suddenly understanding her new comparison and immediately regretting it. He regret it so much. Makoto set his currently working utensil down and ran his hands under the water, scraping dough out from under his nails and rubbing it off of his fingers. It was a bit more disturbing than he would have liked to admit, and knew that from that point forward (unless, should the universe have mercy, he forget it) it would be difficult to clean the dishes with that in mind. Shooting a look over his shoulder, "Right, sorry to have argued." This was followed by a nervous laugh, and he returned to his cleaning. There wasn't much left that he hadn't already washed, only a spoon. The sooner I can get my hands out of this sink, the better.
After a couple of scrubs with the soap, the spoon was clean. Makoto quickly dried his hands on the front of his hoodie, taking note of the location of the cookie sheet. Well, it's a better idea than what I had. "Finished!"
"Naegi-kun, you catch on very quickly. I’m impressed!" That was one thing Kiyotaka could appreciate about him. Makoto truly did try his very best with everything he did—much like himself. Despite not having a specific talent other than luck, Kiyotaka found they could connect in this way.
He hummed, flipping through his own notes as a guideline for him to properly explain how to come to a conclusion without confusing his friend too much. “I think I will be able to do that fairly easily. It may be easier if I merely explain everything to you from the beginning.” After all, he didn’t want Makoto losing track of his own explanation as well, nor did he want the boy to become frustrated.
But what did I catch on to...? Makoto smiled anyway, accepting the praise without undermining it. It didn't really matter, he supposed, as long as in the end he understood the subject matter. As far as he knew they hadn't even started the lesson yet, so he couldn't have missed much (if anything). Watching Ishimaru looked through his notes, Makoto leaned heavily onto the desk in an attempt to get a better look.
"Mhm," An agreement, "That might be best. I was... well, I was awake for the first couple of lines of the notes, but I don't remember most of what was explained but not written down." And he didn't make a habit of writing down everything that was spoken, so gaps in the information were frequent.

"W…Well, in a way, it has. Would you eat…the soggy remains of this cookie dough…?" she replied, posing the question back at her classmate, nodding and placing the dirty dishes she’d brought over to him in an unoccupied corner of the sink to wash her own hands. It was probably for the best to not mention the fact that she hadn’t done this earlier. With one pump from the soap dispenser, her hands were covered in frothy bubbles as she scrubbed as quickly as possible to get out of the way. "Food is meant for consumption, s-so…it just becomes gross. No purpose other than t-to make your skin crawl." She shook her hands over the sink after pulling them out from the water, and moved to grab the roll of paper towels to dry them. Just in time, too, as the timer for the first batch of cookies pierced through the air with a series of mechanical beeps. The author rushed over to the oven, clumsily fitting on the oven mitts waiting for her, and slowly…she opened the door to the oven, nervous to see the outcome. They appeared…not burnt, at least. A few cookies on the edges of the sheet had darker corners, but on the whole they looked decent; edible, even. With a careful approach she tugged the tray from the oven, staring at the bears and flowers that rested, steam rising from them.
"It wasn't soggy until we started washing the dishes, though." He returned, finishing off the bowl and moving on to one of the used spoons. He could hardly see the reflective surface at its head under all of the mess. "Besides, there's another small flaw in your theory. Uneaten food doesn't usually make me uncomfortable." It was only because it was wet and disgusting now, coating his hands. There was no deeper meaning behind the feeling. There isn't, right...? No. No, of course not. That's thinking too deeply on it. It's only cookie dough.
Once Fukawa had finished washing her hands, Makoto sidestepped again until he was just before the sink. He was half-aware of his friend opening the oven, and he could only imagine they came out well. Too focused on his cleaning to turn around and check for himself. "Make sure you put that down on a cloth or something so it doesn't burn anything." He cautioned.

"Everyone is different, Naegi-kun…this is simply what works for me." He looked over at Makoto’s nearly blank sheet, only a few simple solutions jotted down here and there. It suited him, to do what he could then ask for help later.
Kiyotaka moved a bit closer, looking over the problems before he answered the other student’s question. “No, length doesn’t necessarily increase the difficulty of an equation; rather…its the factors that make the problem up. Does that make sense?” He asked, doing his best to explain things in a way someone who wasn’t him may better understand. “Though…if you wanted to work through the longer problems first, we can easily walk through it together. Its merely a matter of your own preference.”
"Yeah, of course it makes sense. This one here, for instance," Makoto pointed out a problem, one of the longest on the page, "Doesn't have too many variables. Number ten has three." Really, when he had homework like this Makoto was more likely to scan the page for easy problems, and once he'd finished those he would go back and start at the top again with notes or similar resources. Math was difficult, he wasn't a fan.
"I was actually wondering if you could explain this to me in simple terms...? I understand the first few steps, but then I lose track of what I'm doing."
