killing is swift and easy . rarely a drop of blood is spilled needlessly – although the doctor may argue otherwise . survival is always offered , promised , even . that is the choice his victims make ————— death , or life . far be it from him to take that choice from them . the blood on his hands doesn’t stain his heart . not when he withdraws his tan qalanq from the neck of his victim , not when he watches their dead body slump to the floor in an ungraceful heap .
he does step back from the gradually spreading pool of blood at his feet , though .
he looks upon the doctor – he doesn’t expect for her to be proud of what he’s done . having mentioned it in the past ; what he is , who he is ; he’d seen the disapproval on her expression . he sees it now . thinks he does , at least . though he wouldn’t assume . he wonders if she’ll be honest with him .
❝ it was his choice . ❞ he’s quick to defend himself . ❝ i thought … he was preventing you from succeeding , wasn’t he ? ❞
what a complicated & messy situation it was, and yet all the doctor wanted to do was get from point a to point b without a fuss ----- luckily for her, she didn’t have to do the fussing this time. unluckily for her, her companion has gone against one of her many rules and, truthfully, she wasn’t going to comment on it until he brought it up. her rules change all the time, you see, and there’s been points scattered across time in which the puddles of blood were her own doing.
--------------- she preferred not to talk about it. or think about it, for that matter.
still, the doctor takes a step back with him, careful to not step in any of the blood herself & she sighs. that’s it, there’s nothing more to it; she just sighs and she shakes her head. she isn’t disappointed, she isn’t surprised, if anything she knows he’s right. they were in her way, yes, and although she didn’t agree with his methods of force, logic dictates that it was only a matter of time before it ended up with either her or them on the floor anyway. so. eh.
❝ i mean, yeah, ❞ she begins, ❝ i just thought we were goin’ to tie ‘em up. i bought so many zip ties back at the market and now i’ve not been able to use them. it’s a shame, really. they were discounted ----------- ❞ the doctor catches herself in the midst of a brewing tangent & she clears her throat to begin again, ❝ are you okay? ❞
